“Wedding Stay”
Reviewed July 10, 2014

Spent the whole day and evening here for my friends wedding - lovely friendly and helpful staff, the food was fantastic, really couldn't fault it.
We stayed in a standard double room, they are pretty basic, but comfortable and a good nights sleep was enjoyed !
Lovely scenic surrounds - recommended to anyone looking to stay in the area.

The visit to St Asaph on 9 - 11 May 2014 was planned some 2 years ago, as Master I decided to centre the visit at the Oriel Country House Hotel.. The Company members took 28 rooms, had one informal dinner on Friday 9th and a formal Livery dinner for over 70 guests on Saturday 10th May.
Our stay at this hotel went without any problems, the owner, Mrs Michelle Seddon ensured by her personal attention to detail that all guests enjoyed their stay at this hotel.
The hotel was well run. rooms were clean, food was excellent and the service at all our informal and formal events was attentive and efficient
Well done Michelle and the Oriel Country House Hotel team. .

The pictures of the hotel portray it as a country house retreat, set in grounds with a relaxing spa.

This isn't the case - it's on a main road on the outskirts of St Asaph, and the interior looks like it hasn't been touched in 20 years. if you fancy late 80's Travelodge chic, then this is the place to go.

The 'superior' room we stayed in reminded me of the inside of a portacabin. Steer clear.

Breakfast was pretty good, until I tried the tomato juice - this was probably procured at about the same time as the interior décor as it had fermented and was very, very off. No apology was offered when I returned it.

The price is fairly obscene when you consider the state of the hotel - this is a £60 a night hotel, not a £100+ location. Unfortunately, there isn't a huge amount of choice in St Asaph, so it was best of a bad bunch.

Steer clear unless you really have to.

It's such a shame I had a terrible experience here, which is a shame as the location of this hotel is beautiful, the room was basic, which upset me because we booked a superior room at £125 a night, when we arrived in our room my husband was quick to point out the bathroom was dirty, the rest of the hotel is lovely and clean to be fair, what also upset me was a few people were short changed, obviously once is a mistake, but to the amount of people it happend to it couldn't of been a mistake, I don't know weather it's taking advantage of the people who were enjoying themselves and were drunk and easy targets, I stayed there at the beginning of June when the weather was beautiful, which is the only positive I came home with

This is the first time in all the years that we have been in operation that we have been accused of short changing guests, and are horrified to read this report. It would have been preferable that any discrepancies were brought to our attention immediately rather than through this medium so that we were in a position to investigate on the spot and advise the customer accordingly. We have no recent reports of cleanliness problems in one of our superior rooms that we can find, and therefore are having to assume that this wasn't reported to staff at the time. I would hope that most potential visitors would read through a good selection of bedroom reports and be aware that the vast majority of guests are more than happy with the quality of accommodation that we provide, and we are sorry that this guest wasn't of this opinion.

We have just returned from a 2 night Groupon deal at this hotel and have to say what great value it was. We slept in room 212, the Bridal Suite, for a small upgrade. This was on the back of the hotel, upstairs, facing west. It was large, well equipped with a big four poster bed and huge ensuite. The breakfast was very nice and the evening meal good quality.
This hotel is ideal for touring North Wales. We could easily reach Snowdonia and the Lleyn peninsular, Anglesey and towns like Conwy, Bangor and Caernarfon and Llandudno.
We were very lucky and had brilliant weather. In such conditions there is nowhere prettier than Wales.
About three minutes down the road from the hotel is the Tweedmill Outlet centre which has recently been extended. Good for a wet afternoon.

The room was a bit dark but equipped with all you would need in a hotel. Very good food and good service in the restaurant. Didn't use the pool/spa but it looked good. We were on a business trip but hotel would be a good centre for touring north Wales and it looked as if it would be a good venue for a wedding/function.

This hotel was brilliant from the word go.We stayed on a Groupon deal and it was excellent value for money. Check-in was fast and efficient. All staff were very helpful. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a king size bed.The hospitality tray was well stocked with different beverages and plenty of milk and sugar. The bathroom was also well stocked with toiletries. We got a continental breakfast on the deal but there was lots to choose from and the option to upgrade to a cooked breakfast for £4.00.My husband had the cooked breakfast and said it was very nice. The conservatory was nice to sit in and the grounds were lovely. All in all a very relaxing enjoyable break and would definitely stay again.
