We were told 30 min wait for food, ended up more like 1 1/2 hrs with 3 kids who lost the will to live, we were given nachos to keep us going, but the kids were not amused, although updated on food times and the waitresses was amazing, the kitchen staff were obviously struggling with a busy restaurant, when meals arrived, the adult meals were over done, chips were cooked in cold fat, kids meals weren't complete, veg wet and over cooked, people were feeling the same all around us,we were offered complementary drinks but declined due to drinking too much while waiting for food, ended up discounting our bill.
But it didn't make up for what was meant to be a treat, being a disaster

Minute portion of Gammon, 15 chips, had to go and hunt for knives and forks. They managed to turn one of Burton upon Trent's finest ales into a sad and miserable experience. Never again.

Very good in parts, not so good in others. The food was excellent, a varied and interesting menu which catered for most tastes. One black mark for one poor waffle out of three ordered, probably not completely thawed, tough and uneatable anway - the other two were really good. When this was drawn to their attention they reduced the bill without argument and with an apology. A replacement was offered but the original order had not arrived very speedily so we didn't have time to wait and didn't wish one person to end up eating dessert alone. The service was not of the quickest although there seemed plenty on duty, but it was friendly and willing and came with a smile.
The toilets wee spotless - always a good sign

We visited at 5:45pm on a Friday evening with a very sleepy 2 year old and a 6 year old. The kids menu was great with some options alongside the usual sausage, chicken nuggets, fishfingers. My 2 year old had the chicken dinner and the chicken was gorgeous (we all had a bit) presumably from the rotisserie. We had a good view of the rotisserie from our table which entertained my 6 year old.
All the meals were tasty, of good quality and service was great. The only downside was that the adult mains were a bit small. But that was easily remedied by having a pudding....every cloud has a silver lining.
A very pleasant experience.
Having read some of the other reviews, we too were told to sit at any table with a menu, but our waitress had walked a little way with us and gestured in the right direction.
