“A great find in a wonderful location and lovely hosts”

I wanted to visit Cong because of Nora Roberts' The Dark Witch Trilogy of books set in the area. She brings locations alive with her writing and the reality was every bit as good if not better than the novels.
We like being independant and Villa Pio offers you the best of both worlds as the owner, Ann and her husband, Marty, are on hand next door if you need anything at all.
In fact Marty is the local taxi driver too and takes a pride in the chauffeur service he provides. We know this because we saw him cleaning the car before taking us to celebrate our birthdays with High Tea at Ashford Castle.
Others have noted that the hot water is in short supply and the towels are not plentiful or big enough and do not dry in time. My answer to this is you need to follow Ann's instructions to ensure all switches are on for the water, the towels are bath towels not bath sheets which do dry if hung over the shower door during the day.
You do need coins for the electric meter but this used wisely is not expensive. It take 1 and 2 Euro coins. We did not have any coins on arrival but Ann was happy to exchange a note for coins.
The apartment is well equipped, clean and has more than you would expect in the way of white goods and electronics. i.e Includes a radio/cd player and DVD player as well as the tv.
Easy enough to pick up shopping in Tesco, Ballinrobe, on the way from Knock airport to the apartment.

“Very comfortable, friendly owners in quiet surrounds.”

Our hosts Marty and Anne were genuinely warm, friendly and very helpful. They provided us with lots of information about the local area including attractions, shops, pubs and restaurants. The also provided transport in and out of the village for a modest fee.

The apartment is modern, well equipped and very comfortable. On top of that it sits in beautiful, quiet rural surrounds with only the local cattle for company.

The village of Cong is an excellent place to stroll around, with lots of history to explore and plenty of places to eat and drink. A walk around the grounds of Ashford Castle and a Lough Corrib cruise are well worth the effort.

Cong is also a good spot to stay when exploring other places in this part of Ireland. It is an easy drive to places like Roundstone and Kylemore Abbey.

Liked best: The surrounds
Liked least: The Village was a little far to walk into at night but this was offset by the transport provided by the owners.

“Wonderful time in comfortable new cottage, what a deal!”

We've just returned from our trip to Ireland and I just had to write and praise this rental. I was especially impressed with the value, only 301 euro for a full week high season. And what a steal, the cottage was very nice, everything new and very clean. We traveled with an 11 mo baby and I didn't need to worry at all, the place was spotless too to bottom and everything from the fixtures to the shower to the kitchen appliances felt brand new. The bed was huge!

Ann was terrific, helpful and kind bu not on top of us, just the right balance, we loved meeting her granddaughter and dog rocky.

I was so pleased to find the cottage set in a beautiful rural area, charming rock walls, flowers, sheep and cows.
You'll Find it along a tiny quiet lane with only other farmhouses, but it's only 5 min drive to cong. Cong was delightful, quaint and just the right size. You can walk around the abbey, walk to ashford castle or take one of the hikes starting at the abbey.

I wish I could give 4.5 stars, but I hold back a fifth for a few reasons, all small and fixable, ask for extra towels or bring your owl bath towels, there were only two smallish ones and they didn't get dry between uses, it's so humid there. The hot water ran out after 8 min in the shower, I couldn't even wash my hair out one night. All the electrical is on a coin operated system so ask to have the tAnk temperature raised, you'll pay a little more but you won't go to bed wet and freezing with conditioner in your hair. Last of all ask for instructions on operating the lock to the front door. It's really tricky and we were accidentally locked out one night. Be sure you know how to use it and carry the key even if you think you left it open.

Management Response
Sep 8, 2014
Hello I want to thank you for taking your time to write a review, it was lovely meeting you and having you stay, I will take on board your suggestions in relation to towels, with regards hot water I need to explain it clearer to guests that the immersion to heat the water needs to be left on according to the usage and thank you for the lovely flower plant which is still blooming.
