Our second visit to Ashford and depending on how pricey it gets after the refurbishments, would love to return. This hotel is a gem and I hope the upgrade does not spoil the charm.

The work taking place took away from the overall experience this time compared to last and it is evident that the hotel is going through a period of transition. Service whilst still better than you would get elsewhere was not quite as tip top as our first visit.

The bar is comfortable with excellent staff and drawing room smart although not as cosy as the bar. The George V dining room is splendid but dinner is overpriced and the food in the village was disappointing this visit. However after breakfast you wont want to eat for most of the day! Superb breakfast buffet and menu options available, try the peppered mackerel.

The setting is fantastic, make sure you do the corrib lake cruise.

We have stayed at Ashford Castle several times and its if they are constantly learning and making something better. The new owners have some amazing ideas and some of these are already applied. There is some disruption from some of the changes so, unfortunately, so first timers here may get disturbed by that. Personally, I am finding huge improvement in rooms and what is provided, especially the good wi-fi now and more comfortable beds. There must be some new air filtration system because everywhere seemed to have remarkable fresh air. In the past I used to think the building was stuffy and it made me sleepy, but not any more. The staff seem to be happier and excited about their new owners and what is happening. Staff morale is always good here though and nothing is any trouble to them. The breakfast here is a stunning feast with indeed something for everyone and absolutely no way of going hungry. Only one downside at Ashford is I think the evening meals are very overpriced for what they are and do not match the standard of other restaurant meals of that calibre ... But there is no need to go hungry. If you are hungry after eating, ask and the staff happily provide more. The restaurant is incredibly well managed and staff extremely slick and professional with service. Overall, it's my 5 star rating for here without hesitation :)

We stayed at Ashford at the end of our 10day tour of ireland for our honeymoon. We were excited to stay in a castle for this occasion especially. Ashford Castle is beautiful but is undergoing construction and restoration which took a little away from how magnificent this castle is. The downstairs bar next to the spa was closed and the upstairs cocktail bar is small for the size of the hotel. The grounds are beautiful and the staff are very friendly and helpful. If you stay, you must do the Falcontry - hawk walk. It's pricey but worth it and the highlight of our trip. We purchased the mid-week dinner & bed breakfast option. The dinner in the George V dining room was very disappointing and not up to what you would expect of a 5star hotel. The dinner took over 3 hours, we had to ask for more water, pour our own wine and the food was just ok. The waitstaff looked completely overwhelmed. When we mentioned that dinner was taking a long time we were told that they just re-opened 6 days ago and for us to be patient. I could understand if I wasn't paying $150/pp for dinner and isnt this supposed to be a 5 star hotel. My husband and I have stayed at 5 star hotels so we had a certain expectation that this hotel missed significantly in the dining experience. We enjoyed the room and castle but would recommend future guests skip dinner at the overpriced George dining room. Other than the dining experience it was lovely and why we give it an average score. One other observation, check out was a bit chaotic. They kept saying they have a new system and aplogized for the long wait. Maybe give it a try after the kinks have been worked out.

Room Tip: We stayed in the corrib level room and it was lovely.

The new owners of this 5 star Hotel have spared no expense in its refurbishment and and there is more to come. We visited in March 2014 and were guests on the second night after re opening. The Castle with its crystal glass chandeliers, large pots of cut flowers and its attention to service is a touch of splendour that is worth experiencing. It is not cheap but you get the personal service as the ratio of staff to guests is high and the well trained staff are genuine in their desire to make your stay the best it can be. The dining room has had a full make over and the rooms are being worked on in phases. The room we had overlooked the Corrib and was already of top standard with comfortable King sized bed and 2 cosy easy chairs. The George 5 th dining room is silver service fine dining but the serving of each course although always with a smile was very slow. We felt that this was a problem relating to the kitchen which is only just commissioned and not the serving staff. The dining room computer system is brand new and overcharged us for items we did not have. This was corrected instantly when queried on checkout but in a 5 star Hotel should not happen. These problems did not spoil our enjoyment of our stay but should be borne in mind by guests until the staff get familiar with the new systems. Breakfast is all you could wish for with fresh fruit and pastries. The hotel a former home of the Guinness family is on 350 well kept acres and has an extensive Lough Corrib frontage. An hour long Lough Corrib trip on the Isle of Innisfree cruiser is a worthwhile excursion. Cong village is down the road and is worth a stroll around if for nothing else but to see the statues of John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara of the “Quiet Man” movie fame.

Room Tip: Be brave and ask for an upgrade but all the rooms are first class anyway

A recently refurbished Ashford Castle didn't disappoint. From the moment we walked in the door, we were immediately relaxed. Our room was lovely. We spend hours rambling through the grounds and the running tracks are excellent. Lunch, dinner and breakfast were excellent with the service being great all weekend. Would definitely recommend this for a romantic getaway

We loved our stay in grand Ashford Castle in Co. Mayo, Ireland. The 13th century castle is set on lovely Lough Corrib amid gorgeous landscaping. We crossed a moat to reach the castle near Cong. The dinner in the private dining room was wonderful, and its presentation for our group by the wait staff was choreographed unlike any we have otherwise experienced. Our room was large with a spacious sitting area and was beautifully decorated. What grand ambiance throughout the castle and the grounds, and the service was impeccable! (Our actual earlier travel date is not among the listed options.)

Our détour to Ashford Castle was an unexpected discovery that will stay in our memory for a long time !

We stayed at in one of the newly renovated stateroom which size were enormous. From the first second we enter the room we were amazed by the finest of the decor, the tapisseries on the wall, the detail such as bed cover in the same fabric and pattern as the tapisseries for homogeneity, the luxurious furniture and the huge bathroom in which the hotel arms are carved in the marble. Everything was just beyond our expectation.

We also had a very enjoyable dinner in the George V restaurant. We went along for the tasting menu which was well designed, in variety abnd quality, dishes were all delicious and the service were personalized as well as impeccable. There were also quite good selection of wines.

The rest of the evening, we spend it relaxing in the lounge with our tea and mignardises serve along with Irish and English classical songs live music perform by a talented singer I can't actually remember her name.

After a good night sleep we waked up with the view of sunrise and the lake right through our window.

Our breakfast was also at the George V's with same service as for diner. There were lots of choices and everything was once again perfect.

We have such a marvelous stay that we felt so sad when the time comes for us to leave. Ashford castle is really a germ in middle of Irish country. We promise to come back again when the renovation is fully completed.
