The property is beautiful, the rooms lovely, the staff accommodating, and the activities once in a lifetime experiences. But the food was ok in the main dining room - a buffet breakfast at a five star is not really what you look for. We stayed 3 days and Three bus tours came and went while we were there. The entertainment in the main bar was a bit dated. And while we were promised upgrades and other offerings by our travel booking agency none were offered and we had to ask to receive things written on our confirmation.

The highlight was the Ireland School of Falconry on their grounds - do not miss this opportunity to participate in this age-old craft.

Room Tip: There is no airconditioning in Ireland so a room on the back to catch the breeze from the lake is a...

This is an unbelievable hotel. Easy to see why when there is a room with pictures of presidents and other royalty and celebrities who have been there. The grounds and walking paths are beautiful. The rooms and service are first class in every respect. You can spend hours exploring the buildings and grounds.

I have never stayed in a more beautiful hotel. On driving through the gate and approaching the grounds, the view of the castle was stunning. The castle's rooms were tastefully decorated and large. The food was excellent in both the George V Dining Room and the more informal Cottage. A jacket is required for men in the formal dining room, but if you don't have one, they will gladly provide one for you. We rented bicycles through the hotel concierge and rode along the Lough Corrib and around the castle grounds as well as the village of Cong and its forest park. We took the two hour boat ride from the castle to a nearby historic island. Both of these activities were well worth it. Finally, we enjoyed the Irish entertainment in the Drawing Room both nights that we were there. Staying at Ashford Castle was definitely the highlight of our trip to Ireland.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Corrib Room that faced the bridge and guard towers. Ask for a room with a view.

Ashford is a beautiful property. The service is impeccable and the views spectacular. Restaurants were very good - although we were not impressed with the traditional Irish breakfast.
The cottage restaurant is every bit as good as their premiere restaurant and the dress is more casual. It lives up to your dreams of a stay in a castle

Room Tip: leave time from your touring to participate in some of the actives the castle offer such as a ride o...

We stayed at Ashford Castle back on May 1, 2013.

I do hope that management also received the letter of compliments we left upon departure as we just had a fantastic experience!

The Castle and drive up is stunning and exciting in itself. You are greeted by a gentleman at the front gate And by the time you reach the front doors everyone there knows your name and is prepared for your arrival. (We were very lucky as a bus arrived just after us.)

At check-in we were advised that we had received a complimentary upgrade for our stay which was extraordinary again. We just got engaged on the Cliffs of Moher and were over the moon. Not only the upgrade, but a tour from the concierge and a lovely surprise of champagne on our way to our room to celebrate the occasion.

The room was stunning and the bathroom was massive! We had the best showers there... The amenities are top-notch. We had paid extra for a lake view room and it was picture perfect. We had gorgeous sunshine and warm weather while there. It's a shame we could stay only one night. We were traveling all over Ireland so this was a big splurge in the budget-it is not cheap, BUT you pay for quality and excellent service.

We also had a romantic dinner in George V dining room. We would highly recommend this to anyone. The menu is filled with delightful dishes, esp. For foodies like ourselves. Breakfast was also over the top delicious as well and there was so much variety.

I think one of the main points that sets Ashford Castle apart from any other 5-star hotel are the associates. They are one in a million. We did not have to worry about a thing. Our housekeeping attendant even folded our clothes and put them away at turndown service. Our servers, yes, more than one, attended to our every need at dinner. Nothing was missed.

And maybe just a shout out to The Irish School of Falconry at Ashford Castle which was also an incredible activity. We also highly recommend this to visiting guests!

Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Pay for the upgrade to lake view. The views are stunning.

My husband and I spent two nights as guests at Ashford Castle. We were part of a CIE Tour group which arrived after our flight landed at Shannon. As we approached the castle in our tour bus, I was concerned because the gate was so low and our bus was so high. Luck was with us, and we passed through and, thus, began our medieval visit. The breakfast that greeted us iwas spectacular. The dining room overlooked the lake, and we gazed at the two floating swans while our omelets were prepared to our specifications. With them, we enjoyed wonderful homemade Irish Soda bread and lots of marmalade. Then we adjourned to our room for refreshing naps. The bedroom had two king size beds with loads of down-filled pillows and matching comforters. After our naps, the two of us toured the grounds. We fed the swans, examined the nine-hole golf course and walked down to the pier to see the boat that was available for those guests who enjoyed fishing. Dinner that night was a candlelight affair with at least five courses. Ireland is noted for its beef, and our steaks were just perfect. The moon was out, so we strolled the grounds and stopped at the turrets and gazed out on the water. How romantic! We entered the hotel by the back entrance and found ourselves near the spa and the indoor pool. The nearby staircase led to the bar where we sipped our nightcaps and enjoyed the pianist who played a favorite song, "The Fields of Athenry". What wonderful memories!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the lake.

What a fantastic hotel, complete with the experience of being there while a TV production crew was filming the new series, "Reign", about Mary, Queen of Scots. The management reassured us that the filming would have no major affects on our stay. They were right. It made our "Downton Abbey" like-experience even more thrilling! The service was impeccable, as echoed by other reviewers, and the grounds and building are in wonderful shape, given the age of the castle. We were able to easily walk into the quaint village of Cong for sightseeing while our husbands golfed on the 9 hole course. Hotel staffers met our every need and request, including a last minute tee time and late night red wine mishap which could have ruined my dress. The meals were excellent, especially the chef's 5 course pairing menu. Their homemade Irish sausage at breakfast was the best on our 12 day trip. Don't miss the proffered 2 hour boat tour that takes you to St. Patrick's 5th century church ruins. The only drawback was the unusual heat wave--the castle is not air conditioned and our pretty 4th floor room, despite a fan, was warm and stuffy a couple of nights. A memory-filled stay and well worth the cost.
