“5 star rating for outstanding service!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

This was our 1st stop on a family vacation(16 family members in all).
The castle is simply gorgeous. The grounds spectacular. Many activities for children. It's location is great, just a short walk into the little town of Cong(FYI did not find an ATM anywhere) .
However the best part of Ashford Castle is the fantastic service . There was one person in particular , I think her name was Katherine, who went above and beyond. Although the entire staff was great.
We stayed here 8 years ago and was excited to stay again. Very glad we did.

The grandeur of Ashford Castle blew me away. My wife and I stayed here on the last night of our Ireland trip this May and were glad we saved this for our last stop as it was clearly the highlight. We stayed at excellent places along the way but this was the crème-de-la-crème. The grounds and gardens are beautiful and definitely worth an afternoon stroll, but you will find it difficult to pull yourself away from the interior of Ashford. It is like staying at a museum; the lavish rooms and ornate decorations bring the castle to life. Enjoyed fishing in the Cong River, dinner in the George V Dining Room was memorable both for the food and the service -- take a sip of wine, and the waiter comes and tops of your glass again. The fountain over looking Lough Cong is gorgeous. All in all a magical place.

Ashford Castle, the place, the people, the activities - in a word - authentic. The service is truly service, where you can feel the kindness and the intent to be helpful in every single person you encounter... they truly deliver on making your experience the very best it can be and also the best it can feel. The castle feels like luxurious history. The grounds are beautiful. Flying the Hawks was an experience of a lifetime. The golf course, no tee times, walk on, no one rushing you on the course. Beautiful fishing places, horse back riding through the moss covered forest. I didn't want to leave. They let people pay a parking fee to tour the grounds, but they reserved the inside of the castle, including the bars and restaurants and sitting areas - for guests only. WOW - what a difference this made in the quality of our experience as guests of the castle. I am sure they could have increased their revenue by selling the castle experience to people that didn't invest in staying there, but the fact that they didn't made investing in staying there TOTALLY worth it and wonderful and relaxed in ways that would have been lost had they sold the experience to day-visitors. THANK YOU Ashford Castle for keeping the Castle for the people that were staying at the Castle.

My dad had stayed at Ashford Castle with his own father, some 40 years ago, and had loved it. So when we planned a family trip to Co. Mayo this summer, we knew we wanted to have a special dinner here, even though we stayed in Westport (about a 45 minute drive). Our evening in the George V dining room surpassed all expectations - everyone in our group of 9 voted this our favorite experience of our entire vacation! From the jaw-dropping approach to the castle, to the beautifully manicured grounds, to the elegant decor, to the wonderful food and impeccable service, we enjoyed every minute of it. Any request was cheerfully accommodated - for example, iced tea was not on the menu, but a pitcher of freshly brewed (and properly made, delicious!) tea was produced in short order, and much appreciated. One of the staff overheard us toasting Dad's upcoming birthday, and surprised him with a special dessert, complete with song and best wishes, and he was nearly moved to tears. Totally worth getting dressed up for, and worth the splurge!

My fiance and I travelled all over Ireland for 2 weeks in March of 2013. We were fortunate enough to stay at Ashford Castle and it was unbelievable! It is the epitome of a fairy tale castle and even has a moat! The castle is decorated ornately and it was completely luxurious. The fine dining was impeccable and a truly memorable experience - they even had a special vegetarian menu which I greatly appreciated.

I cannot recommend Ashford Castle highly enough. It is hotel where I would expect to run into royalty or celebrities because it is that awesome. The staff was so kind and professional that we actually felt like royalty when we were there.

Ashford Castle was the pinnacle stop on our two week tour of Ireland. It was tremendous. The rooms, staff, grounds, dining, and activities were all second to none. Over our three day stay, various members of our party of 25 took advantage of all Ashford had to offer, and none came away disappointed. Fishing, hawking, horseback riding, archery, walking the trails, bicycling, historical tours, were arranged by the concierge, and exceeded everyone's expectation. The attention our family received over the three days was exemplary. Of special note- Martin, (the maitre-d in the dining room), Stephen and Brian of the staff, and all of the concierge staff made us feel very special. Well done, Ashford Castle... you created an album full of wonderful memories!

As other reviewers have said, a stay at Ashford Castle is not to be missed. Yes, it is very expensive, but this experience puts all other luxury hotels to shame. The grounds are spectacular, the service outstanding and personal, the food exceptional and the activities are mind-boggling. While my husband and son indulged in a round of golf, I did the school of falconry, which was probably the highlight of my trip to Great Britain. It's pretty amazing to be strolling through the lush forest with a gorgeous hawk on your arm...as you walk, the falconer provides a running commentary about the birds, their habits, how they are trained, etc. Absolutely fascinating. (Thank you Colin; you were fantastic!)
There are so many activities to choose from that you could spend a week here and not run out of things to do. (In fact, that's my plan when I win the lottery...) With only one day, we were limited, but in addition to the golf and falconry, we tried our hand at skeet shooting, which was also a blast (so to speak). We had to wait out a bit of rain in the stables, but while we did, our instructor provided a little background information on all the horses there. We also managed to get in a run -- phenomenal paths through the forest, along the lake.
In short, WOW. I can't wait to return.
