But only could stay two nights. Unfortunately it was during Ireland's hot spell and it was very hot in our hotel room. Only a fan and a window that opened 8 inches. No other ventilation and when my husband and I took showers before dinner the room felt as hot and humid as Florida. I would have rated the hotel lower because of this but I absolutely loved the public areas, the restaurants and the grounds. The staff is fantastic and is extremely accommodating. Kudos to Shane who checked us in (very patient man), Sinead our dining room hostess, Brian the sommelier, Kathleen our waitress at breakfast, and Dorian the dining room attendant. All very professional and committed to providing excellent service. We walked the entire grounds and went into Cong. Not too much there but it was fun to see some of the Quiet Man sites.

Room Tip: I rated sleep quality low because of the heat in the rooms.

Ashford Castle ,it's hotel and acres of grounds in Cong ,Ireland lie between two beautiful lakes. If U disregard the people around, you would feel that you were back in the 12 th century. SUPERB....My wife And I had stayed there before Pres. Regan visited many years ago and a couple of times since. Dinner with my Two lovely grand daughters two weeksago was superb. If U go, don't forget to look for the Leprechauns, very difficult to see. A few glasses of Bushmills could help. The movie " The Quiet Man "with John Wayne ,a must see was filmed in Cong, and the Jaunting Car ( a side sitting buggy ) can be seen on the castle grounds.. E .

Room Tip: Make ur reservations very early. Prefer a room or opposite side from the entrance.

Arriving early we were hopeful we might get a room by noon, which was not the case, but staff was polite. Web site does not state check in time so we made the best of our 4 hours. Upon receiving our room we found the toilet made a horribly loud sound when flushed. You could hear it down the hall. You have to know that the plumbing may not always be the best in an old estate so we just chalked it up. The beds were also not very comfortable but other than that we had the best time. It has so many activities and I would recommend Falconry and staff was all wonderful also. We also took boat tour and the guys went fishing, then we all biked around the estate. It was relaxing and fun filled. We much preferred the restaurant close by, Cullen's vs the George V as far as dining. You won't be bored unless you want to be. Town of Cong is but a short walk away.

What a beautiful hotel with amazing grounds. Enjoyed horseback riding while my husband and son had a wonderful experience at the school of falconry on the property. The boat ride around the lake was very pleasant. The breakfasts in the George V room were the best we had in Ireland. The dinner in the "Cottage" restaurant was the only negative. The rest of the Caste and grounds transported you back in time. This other stand alone restaurant felt very inauthentic and the food was very average. Would definitely stay in the Ashfrod Castle again.

My wife and I stayed at the Ashford Castle Hotel for just one night on a recent trip to Ireland. Let me just begin by saying there is something truly magical about spending the night in castle. You simply cannot get that kind of experience at many other places, and it was worth it. The staff, like most people in Ireland, are friendly and welcoming. They did their best to make us feel the whole thing was something special (which it was!). The building itself and the grounds are spectacular. We were fortunate to be there on a beautiful, rain-free day, and so we were able to walk a lot of the estate including a short hike to the nearby village of Cong. There are a number of activities available including golf, skeet shooting, falconry, and a boat tour of the lake, but we weren't there long enough to experience those. We did decide to have dinner in the formal restaurant, the Henry V Restaurant. Another more causal restaurant is available for those who prefer something less formal. Dinner was good, but we were a little disappointed in it. The food was good but not great, and the service, which started out good, got progressively worse as the dining room began to fill up. Our room was very nice, equipped with king bed, TV, wired Internet (wireless isn't available in the guest rooms), and beautiful bathroom. It was, however, surprisingly warm given the cool Irish climate. Castles apparently don't have good air circulation. We had to use a small fan to try to get some fresh air into the room from the small window opening. In the morning, we were awakened by a fire alarm which apparently was caused by a power failure outside the castle and the switch-over to a generator. Overall, it was a great experience with just a couple of shortcomings. If you want to know what it's like to stay in a castle, Ashford would be a great choice.

We just walked around the grounds and ate lunch at the cottage, but it was really beautiful. The grounds are beautiful, well manicured and planted. The view of the water was wonderful. The place is truly a castle, with towers and all, and I can understand how it would be a great place to stay.

Well she finally got her wish and Ashford is the real deal when it comes to a castle. I join the others when they say that maintenance is falling behind, and I was a little surprised to find a five star hotel that does not have air conditioning (so we had an electric fan to cool our room). The views and grounds are fantastic, and we especially enjoyed the hawk walk. We found the service to be excellent and enjoyed chatting with and meeting the staff. We did not eat in the King George restaurant as I did not have a coat with me, but we did enjoy Cullen's which is a very short stroll from the Castle.
I was a little surprised to find the slippers from a previous guest under the bed.
It is pricey but worth the experience.
