“Great experience”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

We attended a wedding and the reception was at the Lodge. Everything went very well considering it was organized from 4000 miles away in North Carolina.
Our room was spacious, comfortable and in the most part quiet. One disappointment was the wi fi which worked ok in the bar area but pretty much no where else.
The wedding reception was very good and the food was hot, tasty and beautifully presented. Drink prices are reasonable as was our room rate (particularly when compared to Ashford castle less than 1/2 a mile away!). We all walked in to town on the first evening and had a pub dinner at the Crows Nest (very good too) and it was less than a mile walk through the castle grounds.
If you go to the Lodge try to visit the School of Falconry behind the castle. It is pricey but absolutely worth the money. You get to fly a Harris Hawk and it is an awesome experience
Breakfast is served on the first floor and some tables have an outstanding view of Lough Corrib. A wonderful way to start your day.
A great hotel with attentive staff and a will to please their clients.

Stayed in this hotel for two nights - Thursday and Friday in August 2013 - received lovely welcome from reception even though incorrect name on booking. Our room was in the courtyard , pleasant but in need of some refurbishment. Dined in wilde's restaurant that night - food beautiful if service a little disjointed but staff very pleasant.Overall our meal and breakfast the next morning was lovely but service was lacking at times.
Overall this hotel has a great location - in vacinity of Ashford Castle, but in need of a good manager to pull it all together . The Hotel is in need of some refurbishment but we found the staff to be most pleasant.

Room Tip: Preferable to stay in the house as opposed to the Courtyard

We had booked a courtyard room, however, were upgraded to a larger room, the 'Pomerol' which was at the front of the hotel. The room was very spacious, having a living area and small balcony (very handy to have space ..as well as a selection of DVD's to borrow....when the rain limits the full day trips planned!). Staff were very welcoming and, from the outset, there was a open willingness to look after the guests. Bar food was very nice but don't go for the ice-cream, choose a homemade dessert from the selection. €15 for Bacon Cheeseburger, fries and scrummy onion rings. The restaurant fixed price menu, at €42, was excellent. There was a nice 'twist' to the dishes, e.g. bernaise sauce for the steak was served in an open eggshell, pate was in the form of a lollipop and the dessert choices were delivered in a paper sweetbag (like a child's Lucky Bag) and the rice pudding was original! We were served by Lenka who was extremely courteous and attentive. There is a WII room which was a good distraction for some young guests. Looking at other reviews, yes, there is some need for a lick of paint in some areas but overall the decor was very pleasant. We will revisit!

Room Tip: The view of the lake makes all the difference and try to book the second floor.

Stayed there recently as guests at a friends wedding. The setting is quite beautiful on the shores of Lough Cong in a woodland area close to Ashford Castle. We were allocated a room in a section of the hotel which is laid out in courtyard style with chalet type rooms. The room was quite spacious, having a lounge area downstairs and bedroom/bathroom upstairs.
The evening reception was superb in terms of food quality,service,friendliness/efficiency of staff and ambience.
On arrival later to our room we discovered that there was a fault with the toilet in our bathroom, the tv did not work and there was unsightly staining on the carpet. It was too late to have anything done about it on the night.
Breakfast the following morning was somewhat of a shambles.Service was poor, taking twenty five/thirty minutes for food to arrive.Quality was also poor with cold and undercooked food. When my wife brought this to the attention of a server she was met with the reply "so you want more" and same plate was duly returned with more of the same.
On check out I brought to the attention of a receptionist the problems referred to earlier, to which her colleague replied that the hotel was owned by a bank and while the bank would pay for repairs to toilets and tv there was no budget for removing stains from carpets.I saw no point in mentioning the breakfast.
Because we had such an enjoyable evening at the wedding reception in the company of good friends we enjoyed the weekend but I would be wary of going back there.
It is a pity that such a fine establishment is the victim of basic management carelessness for which the superb setting does not compensate given the prices they charge.

Room Tip: Check that the basic facilities work in the room and look out for stained carpets.

Cong is so picturesque it looks contrived. Lisloughrey house is very well situated for a boat trip on the Corrib. We took the boat trip and enjoyed the friendliness and BLARNEY of the crew.
Lisloughrey house does good bar food and its young staff are most welcoming. Bedrooms a very good size and nice decor. The beige carpets suit the decor well but they do show up stains. Still the overall effect of the place is luxurious and tasteful. More suitable for couples than friends, I think.

Room Tip: Be aware that not all rooms are in the main house but in duplex apartments adjacent to the main hous...

The Lisloughrey Lodge is in a beautiful place. Staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful.
Unfortunately in our room the furnishings, chairs and carpets were very badly stained, some stains looked like chewing gum, some just looked very off putting indeed.
This didn't spoil our stay but stopped us relaxing in our room.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lisloughrey Lodge. We enjoyed the boat cruise that was included on the lake out to St. Patrick's Island. We enjoyed the entertainment onboard provided by Martin, an older gentlemen who was a stand-in cast member in the movie, The Quiet Man, very nostalgic. The rooms were nice, food was enjoyable and views were amazing. I agree with a former guest about not allowing the delivery truck to park out front, marring the lake view, however brief the time it was there. There was some booking confusion, but it was rectified.
