The captain went table to table at the Ashford Castle breakfast buffet telling folks about the boat trip. We bought in and are glad we did. Captain Patrick is 5th generation to live in their home on property that was once part of the Guinness holiday estate. The ride was informative and there were great photo ops of the castle from the water. A little pricey at 20€ a piece for an hour but one has to consider: petrol, insurance, depreciation, etc. I would do it over again.

The two-hour cruise that includes a stop at Inchagoill Island where St. Patrick was said to be banished to is a great time plus very interesting. Very glad we did this. A highlight of our trip. Even if you don't stay at Ashford Castle it is worth the trip. Highly recommend. Had fun entertainment with Martin on accordian. He was an extra kn The Quiet Man

I took a family group ranging from 10 to 76 years old on this cruise and to a person we all really enjoyed our trip. We went on the "Isle of Inisfree", very comfortable with both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat up on top and enjoyed the fabulous views. Patrick kept us fully informed on the history of the lake and island.

Once landed on the island, David took over and showed us the sites. Again, very informative and good fun. He was very happy to answer any questions and was full of anecdotes.

Overall a great experience,

Took the river cruise right after breakfast on our way out of the castle and glad we did. Wasn't sure how much more we could see or learn about the area but there is much to be learned about the lake, the castle and the surrounding area in general. The information is first rate and the guys running the cruise were extremely kind, even talking to my wife and I for a bit as we headed back for our journey. A tip though, it gets breezy so dress appropriately and if you sit up top you have more of a chance of interacting with the man running the show. From what we heard the trip is even better in summer as you get to go out to an island in the middle of the lake to view old ruins.

This was a great addition to our wonderful stay at Ashford Castle and our visit to the picturesque village of Cong! The brothers who run this cruise are very knowledgeable and gave us a great overview of the area, its history, and the significance of the Castle and the Guinness family who owned it. It is well worth the price. I highly recommend.
