“Nicest hotel in Pakbeng”
Reviewed June 19, 2014

I love the fact that this hotel is made completely out of timber as not only does it look beautiful with its Lao-style, but it is much cooler than the other concrete monsters in town. All rooms have big, airy windows & a balcony with views over the Mekong River. The bed was comfy, but the fan didn't work so well, so I just opened all the windows & used the mosquito net & had a nice sleep with a river breeze.

We stayed in a detached bungalow for one night. The view was beautiful. Our room was simple and did not have TV, aircon or fridge. It was a little hot at first with just a fan but cooled down during the night. The wifi worked well, and we had hot water at night and in the morning. The service wasn't great but we enjoyed our stay. We had dinner at the Indian restaurant across the street and it had good vegetarian meals at reasonable prices. The desk clerk never told us that breakfast was included but when we checked out she then told us and it was too late as we had to catch the boat. We saw elephants in the morning, they bathe them everyday around 7:30 AM. The bungalow is overpriced but we enjoyed our stay and it was nice to arrive in Pakbeng to this nice bungalow.

In common with virtually everyone else, Pakbeng was an overnight stop on the slow boat route. We were looking for a bit of comfort , cleanliness and a quiet location at a reasonable price. The Lodge delivered. Some accommodations used by other passengers provided none of these features. I guess you get what you pay for, and there is a lot of choice.

The lodge is easily accessible from the river bank (once you have scaled the steep steps from the water).

The room allocated was the top floor of a detached cabin. Lots of wood, woven bamboo walls, shutters rather than windows, a nice usable balcony overlooking the Mekong, comfortable bed, excellent bathroom, lots of hot water, good internet access in the evening (but non existant in the morning), and spotlessly clean.

The breakfast left a bit to be desired, staff seemed a bit flustered though the restaurant was only about one third full.

A quick look around Pakbeng and you'll find this is likely one of the nicest looking accommodations available. All fairly new looking and the location was really quite beautiful. The rooms are built on stilts with walls of bamboo weave panels, wood floors. I quite liked this style, similar to the huts you see in many of the smaller villages, Our bedroom was large with simple decor. Bed was comfortable and we encountered no problems with the mosquito net. The bathroom fixtures were all quite new and our bathroom was very clean. Yes the walls are paper-thin but it's a quiet area so there wasn't a lot of noise. I always travel with ear plugs anyways so it wasn't a problem for me. There a nice view from the spacious balcony overlooking the Mekong River. Breakfast was fairly typical, choice of eggs, and a plate with fruit and bread.

The accommodation was included in our slow boat package with Nagi of Mekong and is probably one of e nicest places we have stayed on our trip, but having said that, we saw that the rooms were pricier than we usually pay.

Location is good, just up the hill to the left of the boat ramp and we were greeted with a hot tea when we checked in.

The room was well appointed with a balcony which provided a great view over the river, mosquito net, nice bathroom ( with complimentary shampoo) but no hot water in the morning which was disappointing which cost it a star in our rating. Breakfast was included however, and was pretty good.

Room Tip: All rooms have river views

Stayed here for a night while taking the Shompoo slow boat cruise. I specifically asked for this place over the other hotel listed with the comfort option due to better reviews and certainly wasn't disappointed. Close to the boat dock, really nice clean room and a surprisingly good bathroom for a small place in SE Asia! Breakfast was your standard eggs and
baguette which was fine. Highly recommend this hotel
