“Bare waste. Totally overpriced”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Upon returning from recent weekend trip to Moalboal have to agree with the review by Michael W. We booked our rooms pretty late, so there were no available in usual resorts like Tipolo. Also we wanted to explore that northern part with White Beach and all that stuff. Of course we were attracted by highly photoshoped images in Agoda.

Reality came as huge shock. First of all, there's no way get there by car. They have some wild path, which you can go by bike, still it can be tricky. Otherwise you have to go it barefoot. Seeing this we all know where that title came from.

Now as for the rooms. There were no toilet paper, no soap, no shampoo. Each item you had to inquire from very tired staff members. Floor was full of sand in both rooms. Aircon in one room lacked of remote control, it was important as that model is operated by RC mostly. Also in both toilets flush system wasn't working. Some technician came up and "fixed" it, but still it was easier to remove pan cover and to flush by hand.

That's not all. In the early morning there was blackout. Aircons were down, also the water pump of course. Happily this facility has its own generator. Sad thing is that this generator is located just near living rooms. So sunday morning was full of that awesome noise.

You get all this precious for 2500PHP per night only. What a great deal we have here. There was that guy who came with his girlfriend in some quest of romantic vacation I guess. He paid 5 nights ahead. Poor him.

Among other features I'd love to mark.. This so called resort is really remote from main village. We have to drive for about 10 minutes to reach Moalboal spot. Also they don't serve any meals, so you have plenty of choices: you can go to Moalboal on your own (it'll be about 200PHP on tricycle! madness! good thing we had our bikes), you can send some staff to Moalboal to buy groceries for you and they'll cook it for free, you can go to other nearest resort and have your meal out there. I vote that last option. However it's much better not to stay at Barefoot at all, or just leave the place ASAP.

The beach is great, just as always in Cebu, in Philippines. Yet another time I agree with Michael - the owner of this place just gets his profit from original nature location, without investing anything into its improvement.

Room Tip: Try another resort.

Hello Nikolai,
You really have some good points there. We’re happy to say we now have a new remote for the aircon, the beach sand on the floor is gone and we have a new roll of toilet paper in the bathroom again. We are starting to build a restaurant next week and the electrical company promised us to never have a brownout again. Right now we are also thinking hard about how we can move Moalboal closer to the resort.

Take care and hope to see you soon again!

I booked this place via their website cause the pictures looked nice - with a text message - it is not a resort!!! the staff are pushy!!! The room rates are expensive!!! ITS IS NOT A RESORT!! no restaurant! no service!! no pool, SMALL rooms, crappy pillows, crappy aircon, cheap mattress! its hard to find, its on one small block of land with no beach view, like an old country motel in Australia, but one room has a beach view (honeymoon suite)... having said all that its in a very nice quiet location. But the guy who owns it is a greedy person capitalising on the location, and if you'd like a nice dinner go two doors down and see Mark and the friendly staff at Club Serena, they have great rooms, private and large!! and they know how to treat their guests... stay if you want but I have warned you!!!

You forgot to mention that our staff had to call the police when you and your girlfriend tried to run off without paying the bill! Your manners are a disgrace for Australia and your blackmail attempt with bad reviews in trip advisor didn’t work. I never heard so many F-words in one sentence as when we called the police and you where forced to pay your bill or follow them to prison for a free night stay. Better luck next time.

As said elsewhere the place is not easy to find, just at the entrance of Club Serena Resort, a small footpath as the place was landlocked by neighbours. No car access, but the staff will help you with your suitcase for the 200m left if you are not a backpacker... The room we had selected for us 2 plus our baby was finally too small as we eventually travelled with the nanny, so we moved to the "honeymoon suite", 2-room small house right on the front. Only slightly overpriced for a B&B I guess. Pitfall is that the other guests have to cross "your" veranda to reach the beach... It is a B&B so no standard hotel service, but the host lady will go buy food for you for dinner and breakfast I guess in Moalboal 8 km away, and we had very nicely grilled / abundant fish. Main reason why we decided to not stay and move to next door resort though was that they did not accept credit card and we had limited cash. Otherwise, all resorts there are so close to each other that it is no problem that they don't have standard dining service, you just have to make your choice of the next resorts' dining rooms... ALso regarding comments on beach not cleaned - it was not my impression. Of course every 5 meter you will spot a plastic capsule in the accumulated seaweed. But not more than you would find on the "cleanest" European beaches. And rejecting the seaweed to the sea is not a bad technique, because the tidal currents are parallel to the coast so the rejections from the 800m of "white beach" will end up in the rocky part of the coast, downstream...

We stayed at Barefoot White Beach Resort for a week in August 2012. Although it was a bit windy the frist two days, we had a great time snorkeling just outside our bungalow. The corals was beautiful, and thousands of colorful fishes. It's a dive center close by with a very good service. The straff at Barefoot was serviceminded and nice. Thanks to Arun for shopping and cooking great meals for us. A trip by car to Oslob and swimming with whale sharks was superb, and the Tumalog Falls high up in the mountains was also beautiful. Hope to come back some day.

Stayed for 2 days at Barefoot White Beach resort. Unlike the beaches in Lapu lapu City where everywhere is selfishly enclosed by tall and thick fences by hotels and owners, Basdaku in Moalboal is not, much like Boracay - open free beach for everyone. The room is big , the staffs are helpful. theres just no nearby restos and no night life. breakfast would be a small walk to the small eateries near the beach. The rate is a bit expensive tho. We stayed in Phuket before and we paid only 8K for a week stay in a nice new hotel in Patong. In Barefoot we paid 6K for 2 day stay. Definitely overpriced.

Room Tip: the honeymoon suite is definitely the best room there but lacks privacy as it is the gateway to the...

We had a hard time finding the place, no proper signs on the road to guide us. Parking was very inconvenient, it is outside the "resort", had a terrible layout, it could only fit 2 or 3 cars before they started blocking other cars. No valet parking either. The entrance to the resort was tiny; just a one-meter wide unpaved trail in between a concrete wall and a barbed-wire fence.
The resort has no "restaurant", so you have to bring your own food. The rooms were basic; cable TV is provided but only 2 channels (Living Asia and a religious channel) was available, the rest were "not handled by your smart card" (probably the resort didn't pay their satellite TV bill?). The toilet bowl had no toilet seat. Water pressure was adequate. Lights didn't work properly (staff said it was due to "low voltage"). No pool, no fitness center.
The beach was FULL of trash; rotting seaweed, plastic wrappers and cups, etc. We were never able to swim at the beachfront; we had to go elsewhere to swim. We saw staff "cleaning" the beach by PICKING UP THE TRASH AND THROWING IT BACK INTO THE WATER.
Only highlight of the trip was when we booked a boat and visited Pescador Island, where we saw lots of fish, coral formations, and dolphins. When we got back however, the "supervisor" of the resort talked to us and sounded annoyed with us for booking a boat that she said was not their official boat. Her attitude changed from friendly to haughty after that.
The next day, we were woken up at 7AM and told to move our car because another guest was coming out of the parking lot, and our car was blocking it. During the day we had to move our car several times because guests who had arrived earlier than us were leaving and our car blocked theirs (because we had nowhere to park without blocking their cars due to the resort's parking lot being way too small).
The name of the resort is "Barefoot White Beach" but you definitely don't want to go barefoot on this beach... it's filthy! Don't trust the pics they post on their website, the resort looks much worse. Avoid.

Dear sir. Thank you for your comments. They are important for us in order to get better. We are very sorry for your unfortunate inconvenience and we want you to know that all the problems that you experienced with the rooms has been taken care of. Please note that it was not the staff of Barefoot Resort throwing back the coconut husk and dirt that had been accumulated on the beach after the storm. The incident has been reported to the local authorities

Our 3 star resort only have nine rooms and it is mainly appreciated for the high standard rooms, nice beach location and intimate atmosphere. Our staff is most priced for their service and friendliness. In a small resort like ours we cannot have fitness center, valet parking or pool and our prices show that as well.

Most of our rooms have kitchen and we don't charge corkage fee. Rooms without kitchen are free to use our resort kitchen. This is the reason why we don't have a restaurant. However there is four restaurants only a short beach walk away and they are known to serve good food.

Our free parking is 500 m2 and fenced, some of it is covered. The parking also has a night guard. You are absolutely right about the layout and we will start moving the covered parking away from the gate in order to make more space so that more cars can park.

Again we are very sorry for your problems and we have now made sure that these problem not will occur again.

Best regards

The only reason why I stayed there was to be close to Club Serena in order to taking part of the free diving course. Ok the room are big, clean and convenient, with a fridge and AC...but for that amount of money everywhere else in South East Asia you are checked-in a sumptuous international branded palace.

But hearing the drunk people partying all night + the dam’chicken/rooster howling right next door makes the place suitable for a very short stay.

Despite all their kindness and a very good will to assist you, the personnel there can’t provide you the level a service that the rate of a night (should) induce : for example there is no easy possibility to rent a bike or even to get a tricycle.

Barefoot Hotel is not a resort at all with no seaview nor restaurant nor pool nor relax seater/hamac .... but have awful gallinacean night alarm clock and charge you way to much
