I have been to Villa Sonada twice and I can't wait to go back; I have been to many places in the world but Villa Sonada is a very special place. Manny and his Staff are excellent hostess, always; They make you feel right and home; You get all the attention without asking! The location is excellent, the views are stunning, not to mention the food, drinks, music at Villa Sonada. I was so pleased and Villa Sonada that I'm planning my next trip already. I can't believe all those little details, so special.
What a fantasctic place!!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are very comfortable and very neat and clean!!!

We stayed in the case for one night. The owner, Mandy, is a very nice guy who let us pick up at Varadero Airport (in a nice old car!). Mandy even made a phone call to the airport to check our arrival time. Food was good (breakfast 5 CUC, dinner 10 CUC), neat room (nice roof top terrace). Disadvantage may be the shared bathroom. Location is a few blocks from Parque Central. In general, we did not find Matanzas really attractive, we visited the town because of our arrival via Varadero Airport.

An excellent choice as a base for exploration of Matanzas and surrounding country. Armando (Mandy) runs an excellent Casa Particular (CP); a thoughtful proprietor concerned that your travels are enjoyable and thorough (many suggestions for things to see and do in both Matanzas, Habana, Cuba).
At time of this writing, Mandy is expanding his home. Even with the construction next door, the rooms were very clean/quiet, comfortable for sleep with excellent air conditioning. Big breakfasts, and excellent dinners (dine on the roof terrace).

Stay with Mandy and you are immersed in Cuba - the neighbourhood, the people of Matanzas, life in a Cuban city, fellow travellers. Practise your Spanish.

On a personal note: Mandy was extremely kind/professional in calming my fears and helping me establish a base in Habana. He made numerous suggestions, too many for my length of trip. He has a number of traveller friendly books in various languages, about Cuba. Mandy is a friendly, personable, thoughtful ambassador for Cuba.

I would highly recommend staying at La Villa Sonada, Amando and his staff are fantastic! The room was very clean, and secure (a safe was provided). The food was delicious, and different every night that I was there. The place has a very warm and friendly feel to it, and it doesn't take long before you feel part of the family. Amando was really helpful with his local knowledge and speaks good english. I would have no hesitation in returning.

The landlord was very helpful and gave us advice on interesting places to visit, for example an impressive stalacmite cave and a river resort with horses, bicycle tours and boat trips.

Hi!
We spent wonderful days there.

The food was delicious. Lobster, beef, chicken etc. One "negative" aspect was that the dinner was much too ample. On request, he unwillingly agreed to half amount.

He is planning to extend the premises to the neighbouring apartment.

We can honestly recommend this place with it's homely atmosphere and good service.
Thank you!

Room Tip: Next year new rooms.

How fortunate we were in staying at Armando's for our first two nights. Matanzas was a launching pad to Havana and the rest of Cuba. Armando sat down with us and helped us set up our whole experience. Once he knew where and when we wanted to travel, he gave us Casa Particular cards and recommendations, plus letters of introduction. He set up taxis and told us how much we should be prepared to pay for them. For our full day in Matanzas, he recommended and arranged a day's outing at a riverside retreat outside of the town.

He and his wife and family cooked and wonderful meals which were served on the terraza, a roof terrace covered with plants which we shared with two colourful parrots. The quality and quantity of food and drink quite frankly spoiled us, for the food and service at other Casas, nice though they were, never quite lived up to Armando's.

We also stayed at Armandos on our last night before heading home. Due to transporation issues, we did not arrive back at Armando's until well after midnight when we had expected to arrive by 8:00 p.m. Armando had our room ready and waiting, greeted us, gave us some food and freshly squeezed orange juice, and the next morning, set up everything for our transport to the airport.

La Villa Sonada is currently expanding and by next year should be able to offer 4 additional rooms, one on the terrace level.

Armando is a pleasure to deal with. His English is good, and he is very prompt in dealing with any issues or questions, whether in person or via email. I am including his eamail address below, for convenience: mandy_rent_habitaciones@yahoo.com

Mandy " le grand entrepreneur" was just as grand as last year. He never forgets a promise, the success does not change him, he sees to every detail even though he now has bought the house next door and is busy making more rooms. Gracias Sr Mandy.
