Mavrikos Luxury Villas - Romi, Klea, Kaly, Pearl
Reviewed July 18, 2012

Got back last week - We stayed between 5th and 12th July. Although we got lost getting to the villa, and had toruble unlocking the front door, the stress melted away in an instant. The villa is lovely and big, looked after and pure relaxation. In my opinion the best of the 4. It has its own drive way, the last of the 4 and because of this, you get uninterrupted views. You get the afternoon and morning sun, but the actual pool is only in the sun from about 12pm or so, but didn't bother me. Lots of sunny places to lie around in.
Pearl also seemed nice, as it was on the other end - so Kaly and Klea were in the middle - although some reviews say is was not private - we found it fine for us - better than sitting at a shared pool surely?
The maid comes every day, pool guy comes early morning to full up the pool. Both very friendly.

Views are spectacular. You can't get down to the beach from the villa, but a short drive and you can get to a beach. It didn't bother me, as I loved lounging on the lilo in the pool.
We had a car and it was most definitely worth it, we travelled from the northern most tip all the way along the eastern coast to the southern most tip. This is not a long drive although did it over about 3 days (so we got out at a lot of towns and did sightseeing). I loved Zante, I thought the landscape was amazing. Don't be scared to do some road trips, just know the general direction you are going and follow the signs (they jump out at you sometimes!!)
Keri was beautiful, and so was Geraki /Gerakas and Alykansas. We spent a few nights in Tsilivi, which we found loads of fun if you like the night life (not as hectic as Laganas which we drove right through - run down and not for us)
We drove up towards the blue caves, and we went down to the very tip - we were lucky enough to have our own boat as it was not a very busy area and he took us out to the blue caves - was amazing - and he also does the Ship Wreck trip - we did not go as the swell came in and we wouldn’t be able to swim out) - suggestion is to go earlier in the day - as the swell does come up.
Garaki had a little newly built sea turtle rescue centre too, and a nice beach.

The pool is plenty big enough I thought. The aircon is a gods send, as it bakes from about 2pm! Plenty cutlery and crockery - only thing I couldn't find was a can opener and a bigger chopping board, but we made a plan!
The upstairs bathroom we never used, it was boiling in there.
You can even pick up Kiss FM on the radio in the Villa - 100.60FM (it's not Kiss UK, but play some good holiday tunes:)
We had a lovely cat family that we fell in love with - Piglet and her 4 kittens. I'm a cat lover, so spent a lot of time playing with them, but they will just as easily leave you alone should you not be a cat fan.
I cannot actually fault the villa - there was not lot on TV - Sky and CNN, but I wasn’t there to watch TV anyway:)

There is lots of supermarkets, fruit shops and butchers around, my suggestion is drive around Tsilivi and Tragaki the next day you land - you'll find your favourite shop.

We had 4 meals out, the best and most recommended was King Prawn - it's not on the main road, but easy to find - most locals will know if you ask where it is - it's very near the "bowl em Over" place.
It was lovely, the calamari and prawns were excellent.

We also had a lovely meal at an Italian place on the corner of the main road and the road down to the beach in Tsilivi.

I cannot wait to go back here - days out were great, and days lounging around our lovely villa were great too. People were friendly, the streets are cleaned all the time, is lovely and green, and the sea water is crystal clear. WE LOVED IT! If you hesitating booking this - don’t, you won't regret it.

Villa Klea is a detached villa in a row of four, set on the side of a hill. It offers breath taking views out over the Ionian Sea and towards Cephalonia. The villas are signposted off the main road and down a dirt track. They are nestled peacefully between olive groves and the coast, with very little passing traffic, sea or otherwise. The silence is occasionally interrupted by a passing plane. This was a little disconcerting at first, but we soon grew accustomed to it and became avid plane spotters. If I had known this prior to our trip, it may have put me off booking, so with hindsight I am glad I didn't know.
We found the Villa spacious, contemporary and larger than expected. The photos on the website are dated, as the furniture has been upgraded, so do not do it justice.
The front door opened into the downstairs open-plan living space, with a kitchen/diner and lounge.

Kitchen: Washing machine, large fridge /freezer (ice was provided), sink (with sea view) and built in cupboards. The kitchen although not terribly well equipped and I would not describe it as luxury, it was more than adequate, with lots of plates, cooking utensils, sharp knives and mugs. Only three table knives, but around two dozen mugs!
If self-catering I thought it lacked storage containers, oven gloves and pots with lids. I would recommend taking some foil and a couple of sandwich bags. A dish cloth, cloth and washing up liquid were provided. You may want to take a sponge (pot scourer) and also some washing capsules if you want to do laundry. Also a bar of soap may come in handy and some paper towels. All can be purchased locally, but it may save you from buying large quantities if you bring some of these things from home. Note there is no dishwasher.

Downstairs shower room: Modern tiled shower (not great pressure and smallish shower head) Toilet and basin with vanity and mirror, light and airy with window, liquid soap, toilet paper and plenty of towels for bathroom and pool are provided. Toilet paper needs to be disposed of in a bin.
Lounge: Full length mirror, fireplace, shelving units and cupboards, some books and a flat screen TV, cream leather sofa/ coffee table.
Dining area: With modern glass table and 4 chairs.

Terrace: Out through the sliding doors on the ground floor level you will find the terrace, with outside dining and lounging area (complete with outside lounge suite and rattan dining set) The terrace was a wonderful place to take in the sea views, an opportunity to see the sunrise over a coffee or the sunset, chilling with a glass of wine. We enjoyed many of an alfresco dining experience on this terrace.

Pool area: Sun from 8am – 8pm, we visited mid-June and I didn't see a single cloud in the sky. There is a stone built BBQ, 4 sun loungers with cushions, 2 umbrellas, canopy day bed, another outside rattan lounge suite with table. No white plastic furniture, apart from a couple of handy side tables.
The driveway is gated and the outside area had good lighting for night time. A clothes drying frame with pegs is provided. We had no real problem with any insects. The villa was perfect for outdoor living.
Tip – A lilo for the pool is great and can be purchased in Tsvili for around 7 euro, very relaxing for the pool and nobody can see you. Normally I am not allowed a lilo on holidays!

Upper level of the villa: From the downstairs an industrial type staircase leads to the upper floor landing, this has access to a balcony.

Bedrooms: One master and one twin. Each have mirrors, dressing table, chairs, extra bedding and a spare bed, lots of wardrobes with hooks, hangers, plenty of hanging space and drawers. We found the bed and bedding comfortable. The master has a flat screen TV.
Sea views from both bedrooms and both have separate balconies. The Main balcony has Rattan outside seating and table.

There is access to the upstairs bathroom via the landing, as it is not en-suite. The bathroom has a window to the back of property, Jacuzzi bath with hand held shower, toilet, sink with vanity. Water was fine for brushing teeth. Shower pressure better upstairs. No bathroom amenities other than hand wash.

Sea views from bedrooms, kitchen, lounge and dining room. The sea facing aspect of the villa houses floor to ceiling windows to maximise light and view. All windows have fly screens, with bright, but thin blinds. If you want to sleep late, an eye mask might be a good idea.
We didn't need the air conditioner switch on, as we just relied on the sea breeze. The villa also has radiators. Floors are tiled throughout, with rugs. Lots of little extras - including dressing gowns, iron, ironing board, draft excluders, hairdryer and safe.

Further Info – Daily cleaning service, bedding change, towels and bin emptied. Pool man came occasionally. The pool was spotless. Only two of the villas were occupied at the time we stayed.
Don’t take anything too dressy, everything around is really casual. I basically wore one pair of flip-flops and although I packed very sensibly, wore about a quarter of what I packed. Loved the villa and we found everything clean, neat and modern apart from a few paintings that looked slightly out of place and couple of peculiar dolls, not quite Chucky, but they got banished to a wardrobe just in case.
The walk from the villa up the drive is rather steep, not advisable if you have walking difficulties, or small children. From the top of the drive if you turn left onto the road you can walk into Tsvili. You will pass a butchers and a supermarket. On this route there is no pavement and not much until you get into town apart from a waterpark. Alternatively you can take the road from the supermarket down towards the beach and this way you will pass tavernas and beach bars on the way to Tsvili. Make sure to wear flip flops (or similar slip- ons) as it is along the beach, often with no path and some parts require shallow wading.
We found other restaurants by turning right on the main road (from the top of the drive-way to the villa). 50m down the road on the right is a sign for Zante Camping. From here you can get to the beach. this looked good for snorkelling although we have been rather spoilt by the Indian Ocean so we didn't give it a go. If you carry on left along the beach front you will come across a couple of bars and tavernas. These are on the front and more traditional than the ones we found in Tsvili. However Zante Camping's restaurant was excellent for views, service and food or just an afternoon drink and to check your text messages as it had good mobile phone signal, as not much coverage in the villa. Their menu is extensive and reasonably priced, do try the beef stafado. I have brought home the recipe.
The local supermarket I mentioned earlier is 5 -10min walk from the villa. It is surprisingly well stocked –sells most essentials including mosquito coils, fresh bread, has a small delhi, water, beer and wine, fruit and veg, spices. The butcher opposite is not particularly well stocked but we managed to get some sausages.
The supermarkets in Tsvili (25min walk) are larger with more choice, especially for fruit and veg. Ask if things are not on display. We found Pita breads were in the frozen section. I wish I had done a bit of research on which wine to buy as some was undrinkable. We often walked in to town and got a taxi back, 7 euro.
Aris Grill House in Tsivili excellent service and food at very reasonable prices. A two course lunch with wine for two was under 20 euro, 2 euro for a glass of wine and 5 euro for a Greek salad. Avoid Wine and Roses the food was dire.
I would say Tsivili was not really for us, we much preferred our villa location, although it was worth the visit, with some good beach front bars. Two beers cost around 5 euro and lots of opportunity to watch the world go by with a drink and some mezze.

If travelling with Cosmos- Welcome packs are standard, intermediate or deluxe. Please note that exact contents may vary. We had a deluxe pack.
Standard pack includes: Bottle of water, litre of milk, coffee, tea bags, sugar, bread, butter, washing up liquid, dish cloth.
Intermediate pack includes: Standard contents plus, fruit juice, 7up / sprite, cereal, crisps, wine, biscuits, cheese spread.
Deluxe pack includes: standard & intermediate contents plus, apples, oranges, eggs, matches, charcoal, lighting blocks, sparkling wine, 6 pack beer, additional crisps, sunflower oil, potatoes and salad items.
Late check-out - As the villas were not fully booked we were able to arrange a late check-out and transfer direct from the villa to the airport. Initially organised by Cosmo rep we walked into Tsivili and paid at the reception desk at the Mavrikos hotel. This cost 60 euros. If this is not available you are able to sit out your last day after check-out at the hotel and use the facilities there, including pool.
As we did not have a hire car we arranged private transfers through Cosmos which cost £58 for two, return. We thought a hire car was not necessary.
It would have been handy if either the owner or the rep provided a map and info on the local area, as it took us a while to find our way around. Would have loved to have visited Tragaki village, but was unable to ascertain if there were any restaurants there and did not fancy walking miles into the mountains only to find a residential area. There is no Wi-Fi in the villa, but you can find this in some bars and restaurants in Tsvili.
Cat lovers will be pleased to know there is a visiting moggy. More than likely she would go unnoticed unless encouraged. We found 'Whiskers' at the supermarket.

I would recommend Villa Klea for those that like a romantic and relaxing vacation in a quiet traditional location, away from the hustle and bustle of a main resort. I would love to return.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Room Tip: Villa Pearl has its own drive. The pool of Villa Romi did not get all day sun.

travelled on the 6th Oct 11 for 2 weeks.
Just the 2 of us in this 3 bedroomed villa. Everything you need to self cater, although the oven did smoke quite a bit when used. Plenty of pans and crockery. Not as private as we thought it would be, 4 villas in a row, Romi, Klea, Kaly & Pearl, Romi is the biggest.
The pool man and cleaner (or should I say towel changer) came every day at a silly time in the afternoon just when you want to settle down and relax with a couple of beers or some wine.
The villa grounds could have been better utilised, lots of wasted space, the pool and BBQ were crammed right next to each other, the pool was the smallest out of all the villas, one would think it would be the biggest because the Romi sleeps more people.
In a place all to itself is a shrine why?
The BBQ should have been better placed, right next to the pool is not a good idea. We looked around the other villas and they had less room outside but the pools were bigger and the BBQ better placed.
Butchers and supermarket 5 minutes walk up the road.
Local beaches 10 minutes walk.
Tsilivi 20 minutes walk. After being in Tragaki it was a shock when we went into Tsilivi, lots of shops, cafes and the usual holiday stuff. Thank goodness we didnt stay there.
We witnessed a couple of spectacular storms.
Would we go back? Yes but not to the Romi.

Room Tip: A car is advisable.

On our arrival the directions were good and the villa lived up to our high expectations. The view definatly has the wow factor especially at sunset.
We did find the beach, a very private stoney yet fun beach within 500M, but it was a bit of a steep decent to get there, but fun if you like adventuring. The butcher in Tragaki is great for barbie supplies. The Liddle near the airport is the best place we found for most food supplies.
We ate out twice and would recommend both The restaurant on the hairpin bend just before Tsivili and "toMepdkl" not sure what that is in English up the hill opposite the small supermarket in Tragaki.
We hired a boat for the day with Golden Dolphin which was great and went on a day trip with Nephis travel to see Kerie caves and Turtle island with lunch which was great.
All in all a great base to explore the island or to stay put and relax.
They are building a new villa on the access road but we did not get disturbed by the builders at all. If you find fault with my English I am sorry but dont let that stop you having a great holiday here.

We returned here again this year as we had such a good time last year so I'll just mention the changes we've noticed:

1. All villas were occupied this year (only two at same week last year) so it's becoming more popular.
2. There is new patio furniture outside and we enjoyed sitting on the lounge chairs by the pool
3. Maid service and clean towels every day (last year the maid came every day but one). the maid is great and so helpful
4. For travellers with Cosmos, on the last day when you have to leave you can base yourself at a hotel in the town. This option was not available last year

Two negatives:
1.Last year Cosmos travellers received a free welcome pack but that is now a payable option this year.
2.There is some building going on at a nearby villa (approx 50m away). You can definitely hear the power tools during the day but they are not that noisy. A minor irritant rather than a major headache and hopefully temporary.

In Tsilivi there is a new Water Park which is great for the children. It's about a 15 min walk from the Villas.

At the crossroads there is a butcher (don't remember him being there last year) so good to get your meat there for your BBQ. Ask at the supermarkets for coal for your BBQ - it is not always on display.

Altogether a fantastic holiday again. Would definitely recommend it again.
