“Awesome apartments and even better staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

Me and my boyfriend decided to book a last minute for a week of pure relaxing sunshine we stayed 29/06-06/07. We got so much more then we were expecting, clean, large, self catering apartment over looking the bar and pool. The hotel is run and owned by the Gamvrellis family and JEUS do these guys work hard! Not one of them is tied to one specific role, they could be on the bar one minute, gardening the next, hard grafting doesnt come close to what we saw and experienced. They go over and above when it comes to being hospitable, uber friendly, helpful and entertaining. The greek night was fantastic, the food the dancing and Raki will be a memory for a long time, all most as long as our hangover!

As far as location yes it is quite quiet but you have everything you need x4 local tavernas, local super markets and a small shingle beach. You can walk or get the bus into Kos town and Harbour but we really didnt feel the need to as we had everything around us.

We ate at a few of the Tavernas but the Blue Ocean is AWESOME huge portion sizes, delicious and the location over looking the sea is beautiful. Again family run and would recommend everyone go there, friendly, accommodating and the home made cake is to die for!

So overall a fantastic stay, so much so that we plan to come back again at the end of September, already pricing up the flights!! My only one quibble is whilst I understand the concept of self catering a small two slice toaster would make it just that but better, us english and our tea and toast sat on the balcony would have been heaven!

CAT LOVERS please feed the cats! The little black and white girl with her litter needs all the help she can get :)

Thanks Gamvrellis family for an awesome holiday and thanks for all of your hard work and hospitality!

See you soon

Amanda and Darren

Stayed here between the 26th June & 3rd July 2013 , fantastic family run hotel, we booked a self catering apartment which was spacious and over-looked a nice sized pool and bar, the rooms were cleaned daily except for Sunday.
Great location only 400 metres from beach and some great little tavernas and a 20 minute walk into Kos town.

Room Tip: Self catering apartments are the better option as they are more spacious and also over-look the swim...

We stayed in a studio apartment at the hotel. It was extremely clean, had a good size bathroom and ikea type furniture. All the apartments had a balcony overlooking a lovely pool and the bar area. It was in a quiet but good location, the beach was only 400 metres away with a supermarket en route, the beach side tavernas were just a little further. Kos town is only 2km away if you want more action and is easily reached by a local bus. Our return flight was at 3.55am so we asked if we were able to have a late checkout, this wasn't a problem and we kept our room until the coach picked us up and we were not charged anything. The apartments were cleaned everyday and linen changed twice a week. No complaints at all just had lovely relaxing week.

good... location, cleanliness, quiet, bad..... hard beds, no appliances or tv in self catering apts, poolside bar/café very erratic in opening times, no regular staff on reception, unsafe loose slabs around pool. overall impression was its ok as a budget accommodation but more effort could be made by family who run this hotel.

The Iris Aparthotel seems to be where we stay every year when we go to Kos and we always said we would never stay at the same place more than once or twice so we could broaden our horizons, however, we've come to the conclusion......we know what to expect and we know where everything is and relax from day 1!

The iris is family run and Michalis and his wife do most of the looking after with the 2 sons looking after the bar and hotel inbetween. The self catering apartments are a separate block at the back of the hotel and pool and are plenty big enough. There's air condition (which you need in the height of summer) and it's very quiet. The balcony is a great size and gets the sun most of the day. (good for drying towels etc)

The cleaners are lovely ladies who work so hard cleaning the rooms and everything is spotless! if you want to walk into town, it's safe and around 20 - 30 minutes depending how fast/slow you walk with plenty of cafe's/tavernas/bars along the way if you need refreshments!

There are also tavernas about 5 - 10 minutes away from the Iris which serve really nice Greek food. I'm told the Iris make really good snacks but we've not tried them because we're always trying new places near the sea and town lol

Blue Ocean is family run and is near the sea around 10 minutes walk. Go out of the Iris and walk down towards the main road past the mini market. turn right at the end and cross the road. You'll pass Mavromatis (another good taverna) and you'll see Blue Ocean just pass a small dirt car park. It's family run and serve the most amazing food. Portion sizes are good and if you're like us wanting to try all the starters, just order a couple then a couple more etc and have your own Greek meze.....it's wonderful, relaxing and Oh, so good!

So, guess where we're looking to go this year?????? Yep, Kos and the Iris Aparthotel. We book separately to the flight as you can sometimes get it cheaper! So will be having a look at prices soon as I've had enough of January already lol

Room Tip: Any of the apartments are nice as we've stayed in 4 different ones but if you prefer the ground...

Stayed here end Aug begining Sept. The hotel is very clean with fresh towels every day and very busy cleaners. It is in a good location with a walk to the town about 20/30 mins along the coast but beware of the bikes, the buses r very frequent if you cant face the walk back after a long day.Stayed in the hotel part which is showing its age with the furniture very dated i believe the rooms round the pool are more modern. As far as it being family run we found them not very friendly as greeks go.the lady Poppi was pleasant but found the father and sons very strained in fact the father quite unfriendly, although he doesnt seem a very well man there were a few days when there were raised voices in reception. The breakfast although we are used to Greek breakfasts it didnt really tempt me cant really put my finger on why and my partner was dissapointed with the coffee which he usually loves in greece.all in all we had a good holiday there but would not return to that hotel.we loved Kos town and all the island. If you want to hire a car try AUTOWAY it is half way between Psalidi and Kos town the owner and his wife were so helpful.
