“Oh Dear !!! NOT 5* by any means”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Well what can i say ?? We , along with 90% of everyone we spoke to, thought they had been booked into the Panarama, which is definately a 5*, The maris may say 5* but is only 3* at best.
We have done many A/Inc hols and have always had;Waiter Service in the evening, "reasonable" Entertainment, tableclothes, hot food(not tepid), and snacks of pizza, pancakes etc in the day, not here, very dry plain cake in the afternoon, that was it.The staff in the bars and maids, were very pleasant, and the rooms very clean, odd though that there was only 1 plug in the whole room !!. When we got there, there was NO air con !! we went and complained at reception, and were told, very patronisingly, that there was none and to take it up with your holiday company so we ended up bitten by the mossies due to sleeping on top of the bed. Food was very poor, although a couple of days after some "suited and booted"with clipboards were seen, we did have 2 nights of hot and better food, but that was it .The pools were lovely, plenty of sunbeds.one of the biggest SHOCKS,was that you were given your drinks (very very weak)in flimsy cheap plastic cups in the evening, really bad.Would I go back, NO definately not,it is missold at Panarama, and it is DEFINATELY not so BEWARE.

Room Tip: Do make sure you are in The Maris not The Hipocrates, and do not get one on the front over the road.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing your review on Trip Advisor. Your comments have been brought under our attention; However, please allow us to repeat that all travel vouchers about Panorama Complex have a clear note that states “Panorama Complex” and the room category-exact room type and building whether it is Panjorama itself, Maris or Hippocrates hotels. It’s a pity that people keep on commenting about this, without having checked their voucher prior to complaining. As for your claims over the classification of the hotel, we can only say that opinion and taste is personal to each individual. Our rating is not something we came up with but it is official and done by the authorities.
As for the Air Conditioning, besides the fact that this is common practice in seasonal hotels, it is communicated in advance to each one of our travel partners.
Apart from this, we are being surprised by your claim that our food was not being served hot enough, The food temperature is regulated and controlled as we apply the HACCP food safety standards. The containers are at 85 degrees. In a buffet we cannot keep the food at a very high temperature – piping hot, as it keeps cooking which deteriorates the taste and texture. In addition to that, there is always a cooking station preparing food according to guest’s liking and this couldn’t have been cold. On the food variety, we refer you to the numerous other Tripadvisor comments praising our food. As for the variety, we follow a 10 day revolving buffet schedule and if this is not enough, our guests may use the Italian or Greek restaurants of our sister hotel Kipriotis Village. During meals, on the theme nights we use place mats and for the international buffet on Sundays we use Tablecloths.
Regarding the plastic cups being used by our bar staff, we would like to inform you that for safety reasons, EU regulations do not allow the use of glass around the swimming pools. Therefore, disposable plastic cups can only be used for our bar service. You may have noticed that you were asked each time if the drink was for outside or in the lounge. For the lounge, we serve drinks in normal glasses. As for the quality of drinks, our bar offers local brands, but always according to international standards. However, apart from all inclusive drinks, there is a variety of famous brands, upon charge.
Our animation team had at least 3 evening shows in our theatre, three evenings with games or contests, and one Greek night with live music and dances. This is reasonable for “soft animation” as we advertise it.
Once again, thank you for your comments, giving us the opportunity to improve. If required, we will be happy to further discuss your stay and can be reached at wecare@kipriotis.gr

We asked for a sea view which we got, but it was next to a very busy and noisy main road. That would not have mattered much - the pool was fantastic and we could spend all day there - except that the air con had been switched off so we had to leave the patio doors open all night. Even so, the room was still like an oven - the fridge was on permanently, belching out heat, and you couldn't turn it off. We got bitten by mosquitoes in the night.Travel agencies are still, even now, advertising room facilities as having air conditioning so we felt aggrieved that we had to suffer such discomfort on holiday. The reception staff were of no help merely saying 'Take it up with your travel agent, hotel policy is to stop the air con after 15th Sept.' We never saw this in print / nor were we told before we went, and everyone seemed to be as shocked as we were. This is one reason why I would never use no frills travelzoo again as you really do feel out on a limb. Ironically our room was desribed as 'superior'. Restaurant and bar staff at the Maris and Hippocrates (you could eat at both) were really good - the restaurant manager at the Maris, in particular, was very efficient and had her staff on their toes, she should have been the hotel's general manager! The food was good too. And a special mention should go to Maria who cheerfuly encouraged guests to join in in activities such as daily yoga, boules etc. which were excellent. What a shame that it was so hot in the rooms... we would have paid more for this ... it really spoilt the holiday.
It's worth exploring Kos town - under 2 euros by bus: the castle, odeon and archeological sites as well as the peaceful winding shopping streets where you can look without being hassled. The ancient hospital site - massive - can be reached by the little 'train' from the bus station and it's great fun driving along through the town.

Room Tip: Refuse to be in a room overlooking the road. Ensure there is air con on the dates when you go.

Dear Guest,
We would like to thank you for your review on Trip Advisor, as your remarks help us to improve. We would begin by saying this is not a five star hotel in terms of comfort, service and the extras you would expect. However, we had a lovely time here, with excellent quality food, friendly and efficient staff at the Maris and a lovely location. We found on the couple of occasions when we ate at the Hippocrates the staff were not as pleasant and the restaurant manager was positively rude to us on one occasion. We had a couple of problems with the cleaning staff too but our concerns were quickly addressed when we spoke to the manager who was very pleasant. The rooms were large but quite basic for a 5 star hotel with rather hard beds (for our taste) and very stuffy at night as we were informed the A.C. Is switched off in mid September whatever the temperature! However, there must have been complaints as two nights prior to departure it was switched on again. The restaurant offered theme nights which we enjoyed but it would have been a nice idea to add to the ambience by having some background music playing appropriate to the country. The restaurant staff worked extremely hard and the manageress was charming. I don't understand what one recent reviewer meant about 'all the cats' as there were only two and wherever you eat abroad outside there are always cats around. These cats were very friendly, never jumped on tables or chairs and were obviously well-fed and healthy. There was also a lovely friendly dog who came to say hello but was also well cared for. Don't know if he belonged to a member of staff?? We had some relaxing days on the private beach which had lovely views across to Turkey (Bodrum), only 20 mins away. The beach is part sand, part pebbles and you need beach footwear getting in and out of water. the beach was clean on the whole but was often littered with cigarette butts which was a shame. We booked some excursions including the 3 island cruise, Nissyros volcano and the Kos tour, all excellent and good value. We also rented bikes on 3 of the days and enjoyed leisurely cycles around the area and into Kos town which is a must - lovely harbour, historical sites and lovely restaurants. Kos is a fascinating place, very relaxing, laid back and very scenic with plenty to offer for everyone. We would recommend a stay at this hotel. just to add the experience at Kos airport was awful - just too chaotic, tiny airport dealing with too many passengers. We travelled with Small Planet Airlines who were fine - efficient and more comfortable than many others we've travelled with.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share with us your review on Trip Advisor. All your comments have been brought under our attention and where required action will be taken in order to improve our offered services. Regarding your comments on our food proposals, please note that our buffet is based on a 14 days circular program, offering a variety of dishes, containing pork, lamp, chicken, turkey and beef, plus sea food, fishes and many side dishes and fresh salads. As for the A/C, after a hot summer with 24h intense operation, a routine service was required and the service was available again during the hot days of September.
Once again we would like to thank you for your comments and evaluation and we are looking forward in seeing you soon in one of our hotels.

This was a 40th birthday hol for my friend and I and we were so looking forward to a 5 star AI holiday. Unfortunately this hotel is far from 5 star!! We had a junior suite which although twice the size of your average holiday accommodation was hardly of `suite' status! We had a kettle in our room, no tea, no spoons and considering the `suite' only had one plug socket you can imagine what a nightmare that was, the kettle was nowhere near the plug! As for the mattress, it was like lying on marble!!! Basic plastic sunbeds, few had cushions. As for the food............its put me off AI for life!! Just boring, boring, boring. Not the 5* standard I expected. We weren't told about having to reserve our place for dinner every night in our restaurant, turned up for dinner in the other hotel at 9pm to be told it was shut!! We therefore signed up for 3 of the `theme' nights in our hotel ie Greek, Chinese and Oriental. Food was edible but couldn't see where the `theme' was at all!!! No atmosphere whatsoever!! In the leaflet left in our room it stated breakfast finished at 10am although they served continental from 10am to 11am. However, if you turned up at 9.45am the lady was clearning everything away, you struggled to find a teapot or a cup. Wifi didn't work for the first 8 days we were there, we complained but were told it was our equipment at fault, what a mobile phone, two ipods all faulty??? They then tried to charge us for 2 uses of wifi when we checked out!!

Room Tip: Don't pick a room near the pool!!! considering pool is supposed to shut at 8pm we were woken tw...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing our hotel for your vacation and for taking the time to post your valuable comments on Tripadvisor.

On the rating of our hotel, as we repeatedly stated on this site, 5 stars is not something we arbitrarily decided or something that anyone can rate according to their own personal taste, but it is rather the official classification by the competent state authorities.

In our Maris rooms & suites, we have kettles and tea bags and coffee, complete with cups and whatever else is needed. Should a guest run out of these items, they get replenished by a simple phone call in no time.

As for the socket, it is 1,5 meters away from the kettle. To those who this is a real problem, we provide upon request extension multiplugs.

Our buffet meals rotate on a 10 day basis. Due to the origin of the recipes (Greek-Mediterranean mostly) certain cooking methods are similar; this, to the unused individual may seem repetitive. There are labels however explaining each dish, and the variety of our food is rated more than satisfactory by the total of our guests. Concerning the theme restaurant, as explained before, we have to apply a reservation system as it is a served menu and the seating is limited. We do have the alternative of Hippocrates main buffet restaurant for dinner, which however as all outlets has specific –posted- operating hours. One has also the alternative to dine in our sister hotel Kipriotis Village, at the Greek or Italian restaurants.

During breakfast, at no time do we pick up the buffet before 10:00am and after that, there is adequate staff and cups, coffee, tea, cutlery as our restaurant shuts at 11:00 for breakfast but reopens at 13:00 hrs for lunch.

Concerning the Wi Fi, we stand by our initial reply: it works just fine, since day one and maybe it is not your devices which are at fault but their settings. The charge goes automatically in your room account and had you read the login page, it does state that you would be charged. Therefore writing “they tried to charge us for 2 uses” is false as this procedure is automated and you get charged only once connected.

Lastly, on the room’s location, we must refer to the room tips of trip advisor that other reviewers left, stating that pool rooms are the best. We guess however that this has a lot to do with personal preferences.

We would welcome the opportunity to further discuss your stay with you and can be reached at wecare@kipriotis.gr

Having read some other reviews I'm glad to see it wasn't only us!

It started when our transfer dropped us at the 5* complex at the top of the hill. We walk into the hotel to be told that we are going to be out back in a mini bus and taken down to the 4* complex.

When we arrive at the 4* to be checked in to which we tried to explain we had booked a 5* not 4 to which the staff came across rude and told us we would still be in the 5* Maris.

We were checked into the maris (apparently a 5* hotel) although all food was serviced in the 4*...

The food.... Terrible! Cold most of the time and very much the same most days. The meat is usually pork or lamb with the occasional bit of chicken. All of which are fatty and most of the time Luke warm. I managed to get hot chips on one night. As a result we paid for all inclusive but chose to take the bus into town and pay to eat out 3 nights out of 6 nights.

They also have a themed night in the other restaurant at the hotel. We decides to try the Italian night but that was just as bad. Waiters being food to your table.. They don't tell you what it is and when you try it.... Oh wait it's cold again! We chose to leave after a couple of bites and get the bus into town again.

Bar staff were great (apart from one guy called Khan. He was rude and unhelpful. Decided one night that because I had a drink in my hand he wouldn't serve me another and would only service me once I explained I would be going back my room and wanted to take another drink with me!

Oh... And from 11pm onwards you have to pay for drinks. The same drinks you have had all inclusive all day... I've never been to an all inclusive that charge for drinks past a certain time.

The positives of the holiday. Rooms were clean, bar staff and animation team were great.

Negatives.
Reception staff rude and unhelpful
Food was shocking
And the general mess around of moving you from different hotels when you believe you have paid for one in particular!

Overall
Nice hotel is terms of looks and cleanliness
Shocking food and poor customer service.

Recommendation
Don't go here..... I never write reviews on holidays but I felt the need to with this one.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing your review on Trip Advisor. Your comments have been brought under our attention; however, we do believe that you exaggerate in some aspects of your review.
On the food, we refer you to the numerous other Tripadvisor comments praising our food as the offered variety consists of Greek and international specialties, such as moussaka, fish, spetsofai, souvlaki, gyros, papoutsakia, giouvetsi and other delicacies. Our salads and desserts are also based on Greek cuisine, with an addition of international tastes.
As for the room allocation at Maris, as mentioned on other replies, some travel agencies promote all Kipriotis Hotels as a hotels complex; however, in their description it is clear that the complex consists of a group of hotels and each room is accompanied by a detailed description of the facilities and provided services. In addition to that, all info about our hotels are available on our website and it is easy to understand the venues and services for each Kipriotis hotel.
Having all your comments under consideration, we would welcome the opportunity to further discuss your stay with you and can be reached at wecare@kipriotis.gr

I have never been to any of the Greek Islands before, and i can honestly say its the best holiday i have ever had, we stayed on the Maris suites, the room was very spacious, lovely balcony over looking the pool, i have never seen such spectacular views, as i saw from the red loft bar, simply stunning, you do have to pay for drinks in the red loft bar, but it is totally worth it for the views.
We ate breakfast and lunch at the Maris restaurant, and dinner at Hippocrates, as we really enjoyed the selection, something for every body, could not find any fault with the food or drinks, lovely all-inc cocktails :)
Totally recommend the 3 islands boat tour, out of this world, saw dolphins swimming in the wild, very touching..
All of the Kipriotis hotel staff were wonderful, so friendly and helpful, and our room cleaner did a great job, clean towels every day, even the small touches such as chocolates and drinks in the hotel room fridge, really welcomed these after a hot day! The hotels and grounds were always squeaky clean, great laundry service too. Can not find any fault with this amazing holiday destination, apart from i wish i was still there. Will most certainly be returning next year. Absolute paradise.....

Looking for a cheap week away I came across the hotel through On the beach £1600 for a family of 6 including flights so grabbed it.
I had read as you will on numerous reviews about the overbooking of rooms on this resort complex so in advanced I emailed Panorama hotel requesting rooms overlooking the sea just to see if in the reply anything would be said as to where we would be actually staying. I had a reply back from Maris Hotel which is where we were reserved 2 junior suites so not at Panorama but in the hotel at the bottom but still 5*.
Please try and email before going to confirm where you are likley to be placed - it seems everyone books on the understanding you are going to the Panorama but you could be there, in the Maris Suites, Hippocrates or The Village across the road !!!!!!!!!!!!

Firstly I would like to say that I was so pleased to be placed in to The Maris. You have to check in at The Hippocrates and this is your reception for the duration of your stay. You can use your all inclusive at this hotel as well as your own (Maris).

The Maris - Both rooms were as expected Junior Suites - plenty of room - Superking bed and seperate area for the children on two seperate sofabeds. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space - tea & coffee facilities - FREE safe - fridge which is stocked but please note ! once you have taken the drinks from the fridge your next lot when replenished ARE charged !! TV in room (not flat screen) and very limited English channels but your not there to watch it are you :) Bathroom large always hot water and as long as you put towels in the bath the maids changed everyday. Balcony/terrace huge with table and chairs - we had sea view and looked out onto Turkey :) I cannot fault the room as a whole except there was only 1 plug socket !! bit hard in this day what with charging iphones and consoles for the kids but we managed.

Maris Pool - lovely pool area except could do with some slight work as edging around pool in places were loose but other than that very clean and large, no shallow end all 5ft + but there is a toddler pool also. Never had to rush for a sunbed always plenty free and plenty of shade. Please not although i found the sunbeds to be comfy enough they do not have a mattress. Pool towels are available for your stay at 10 euros each.

Maris Bar - Bar staff very friendly. Drinks available all day but please be warned 11pm is shut off and it is on the dot !! drinks can be bought after this time but they are pricey. My husband and I like a good drink (if you know what i mean) and found that the local brands were very weak and even thought they could be watered down so dont expect to get tipsey :) Children welcome at the bar for there soft drinks and also please note ice cream only available from 12pm till 4pm Tea and cake 4.30pm - 5.30pm. The bar can get very busy also so be prepared to wait a little (mainly at night).

Maris Restaurant - Well this is strange - Breakfast and lunch is served here but at night it is reservations only 24 hrs notice and is themed. The AI buffet is across at Hippocrates.

Maris Breakfast - everything you need - eggs cooked infront of you - pancakes - breads cheese ham pastries fruit yogurt cereal - cooked - beans bacon sausage french toast. Coffee brought to your table vending machine for hot chocolates and expresso - flavoured tea available as well as water and juices - we always sat outside which was nice and there was never any hustle or bustle no trouble getting a table for 6.

Maris Lunch - I have to say that lunch time had to be the best food - A great deal of choice chicken - veal - burgers - pork - plenty of salads pasta local dishes and chips were NOT always on the menu a different form of potato everyday. Plenty of puddings and self serve for soft drinks as well as wine and beer. Again sat outside but in shade again no hustle and bustle very pleasent.

Maris Theme Nights - We went to Italian and Chinese night. This is a set menu and you are waited on. I have to say we enjoyed both nights, we heard others complaining but come on your in Greece !!!!! they try their best. The only thing was the clearing down before your next course was very slow there seems to be little organisation and i will admit the food was not as hot as i would have liked it.

Hippocrates Buffett - Very canteen like !! There is a cooking station but everything else in tureens I found the choice not as good as the Maris during lunch but again different dishes to appeal to all nationalities which they have to do (its not all for brits is it).

Snacks - non existant - oh dear this was a major let down - Having kids who play in the pool all day normally enjoy a toastie or a slice of pizza mid afternoon or sometimes late at night NOT here the only snack you will see here is a cheese and ham sandwhich in normal white bread and placed in a large bread bin !!!!!!!!!!

Mini Market - very limited with food - but then you are AI so kinda figures - plenty of drinks and gifts.

Beach - this is for Panorama and Maris guests only as both these hotels classed as 5* i dont know where peeps for Hippocrates were able to go. The beach is not sand but stone and mulsh but pleanty of free beds overlooking Turkey. There is a shack serving only soft drinks down there.

We had a quick look in The Village across the road 4* looked nice with a large pool with a pirate ship in the middle with slides. Very crowded sunded area but plenty of shade. Here you can use the pool and eat but you have to buy your drinks !!!

We had a trip into Kos town - bus stop outside Maris and Hippocrates every 20 mins number 1 and 5 take you to the Marina and ARE regular !! 1 euro 60 for adults.

Would i go back? I dont think so unless i got a cheap deal again and i KNEW i would be staying in the Maris - peeps we met there had been moved numerous times during their holiday and it really spoils it especially if only out there for a week. I dont really understand why it happens weather it is the resort hotels or who you book through its all a bit bizzaire.

We did have a lovely time weather was fantastic - we ate and drank too much and basically chilled out with the children but i think we were lucky with everything.

Any questions feel free just book with caution before parting with your hard earned cash :)

Room Tip: Junior suites are a must and try to get sea view looking out to Turkey

Dear guest,

Thank you for choosing our hotels for your vacation and for taking the time to review your stay in Tripadvisor.

We appreciate your kind words. Our rates are always a bargain but especially at this time of year we have excellent deals. As for the reservations inquiries, we answer each one of them and really do not mind putting our guests’ minds at ease if they doubt or are not clear on which hotel they booked a room in.
We are glad to read that you enjoyed staying in our junior suites. To overcome the problem of the sockets when a guest has several electrical devices, we provide extension multiplugs for free when asked.

We note your comment on the restaurant food and service and will use it to improve ourselves.
Hippocrates guests are welcome to use our beach as well. However, the use of sun beds and umbrellas is free for Panorama and Maris guests only, as advertised.
We do not move guests around in other hotels unless we are requested to do so and in no case this happens numerous times. We allocate the rooms to our arrivals based on the information we receive from their travel agent.

We thank you again for your comments and look forward to our next opportunity to be of service.
