The location of the hotel is in a quiet resort called Psalidi. Kos Town is easily accessible by bike hire which is a safe way of getting around, all on the flat as well. Or alternatively use the public bus number 1 which runs every 10/15 minutes and is right at the end of the lane upto the hotel.

The hotel is only 4/5 floors high and is built in the shape of a castle, painted in white.

Upon arrival check in was very smooth and simple. We arrived after the restaurant had closed, so had to go to a local restaurant for a meal, only 50 metres away. You get your meal at the end of your holiday either in a voucher for lunch or for evening if you are still here.

Rooms are simply furnished with the usual toiletries etc and a well stocked mini bar. You can use the fridge for your own water if you wish. Mineral water just over 1 euro from the mini bar. The rooms as is the rest of the hotel kept impeccably clean. The cleaners/maids work very hard.

All the staff deserve a pat on the back for the way they look after the customers. Nothing is too much trouble and always with a smile.

They have 2 pools, 1 is slightly quieter than the other. No need to save sunbeds as they are lots and no matter what time of day you come down they are free beds. You can hire towels for the pool at 3.50 euros per week.

We used the pool bar each day for lunch and found all the meals were adequate.

The restaurant was very nice, lovely to eat breakfast and evening meal outside, in the shade or the sun whichever you preferred. Lots of choice, always beautifully presented and unusually always piping hot. Chef cooks pancakes and waffles for breakfast and show cooks for evening meal.

The animation team put together daytime activities and put on shows 3/4 times a week. Could do with some improvement here though. Entertainment is outside, could just do with more professional shows. Improve this and this hotel would almost be perfect.

If you have a late checkout, you can keep your room on for 45 euros or if you just want a shower you can use these downstairs for free.

We didnt book any trips through thomsons, if you want to go to Bodrum go to Kos Town harbour and you will see lots of boats seeling trips. We went on Maria Star and saved 20 euros on thomsons price!!

We had great weather and a lovely hotel, thanks to all the staff.

Room Tip: High floor with a pool view. Sun in the morning and shade in the evening. We had room 360.

We booked this hotel after reading reviews on Tripadvisor. The hotel is kept immaculately clean, the bedrooms well appointed and maintained .The food was outstanding, plenty to choose from at breakfast and dinner, take some bigger clothes as you will put on weight!!! The staff can't be faulted, everyone of them friendly and helpful. We were unhappy with the position of the room we were given, this was quickly rectified and an alternative given. Special thanks to Michael in the restaurant for looking after us and keeping us supplied with wine. The animation team were lovely, always ready with a friendly word and chat even though we never took part in the daytime activities. Evening entertainment consisted of quizzes, bingo and a magic show, not to our taste but not a problem as Kos town is a 30 minute walk or 5 minute bus ride away so it's easy to escape it. The only disappointment we had was the so called beach hence not an 'excellent' review. This consisted of a man made grit beach with a few sunbeds and umbrellas for which there was a charge despite there being no facilities eg toilets or taverna. Hotels further along the road have made a much better job of their private bit of beach so this could be an area for improvement by management. Would we return? probably not as we like a beach holiday but for anyone not bothered about a beach you'll love it!

Room Tip: 350's have sea and mountain views, 140's face into court yard and bar so can be noisy

There were a lot of positive reviews about this hotel on the Thompson holiday website. They were not wrong. This charming luxury hotel is definitely one not to miss. The hotel was exceptionally clean and tidy, the staff were wonderful and the food an absolutely delight. Apparently one guest complained about the breakfast, but I think that was down to his lack of imagination and less than discerning taste buds rather than the breakfast itself. The choice of food during breakfast and dinner was extensive with something for everyone from traditional English to typically local food. The buffet style dining room meant you could go back again and again and try literally everything on offer. The staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. They were attentive without being overbearing (a rare quality in my experience). Plenty to do during the day if you wanted it, the animation team (Ilse and Petko) were great at keeping us amused. There wasn't much in the way of entertainment at night, music and general knowledge quizzes, a Greek night and another night we had a chap laying on a bed of nails and fire eating. Both nights were very entertaining, and I suspect they will step up the entertainment when the summer season gets into full swing. (We were there for the last week of May). Overall I can not find fault with the hotel, food, staff or Kos. The hotel boasts of a private beach. This was a little disappointing, but there really is no need to leave the comfort of the pool. Plenty of other lovely beaches around the island though. The town of Kos is charming with a lovely marina and we hired bikes from the hotel and rode into Kos town, about a mile and a half away. A visit to Kos Castle is well worth it, entry 3 euros a bargin. I would urge anyone going to Greece to give the Hotel Platanista a go, you won't regret it.

The past four years, we have been here three times. This hotel is already over 10 years old since last refurbishment, but every time again it looks brand new! We are convinced, during winter time, all walls are painted again, defective equipment is replaced... Food again was quite decent for a tourist hotel, unfortunatelly we would prefer more Greek courses every evening besides typical Britisch and German food, but for the price one pays, one can't complain.

Staff is just marvellous and friendly, we had an accident with our motorcycle, and staff members helped us to get to the best doctors on the island because the public hospital... Well, just stay away from the public hospital...

The Platanista will never let you down, if you look for a real 4-star superior hotel, this is it; on the island of Kos, and for this money, you wont find better!

This was our first to Kos traveling from the Northwest US. Visited in September 2011. Chose this hotel based on trip advisor reviews and was not disappointed. You can tell from the reviews that they get a lot of repeat customers especially from the UK and Germany. We booked 6 nights here, on arrival found that they were overbooked and they transferred us to another hotel for the first night. Initially we were a bit unhappy but they took care of the transfer and put us in a luxury suite with private pool in another beachfront hotel at their cost. When we transferred back we were pleased to find Platanista was very clean, excellent service, friendly, beautiful pool areas, breakfast buffet was of good quality and
selection. The Hotel is well maintained, rooms are clean, comfortable, with air conditioning. We feel they had excellant customer service as shown by the recovery of our satisfaction. We stayed in a deluxe double with balcony on second floor overlooking pool areas. I would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again if returning to Kos. Bike rental nearby for riding to town. I also rode to and from the conference center where I was attending meetings.

This is a great looking hotel with a great backdrop of the mountains and just 50mtrs from the sea!
We opted for a standard room, which on the website looks quite basic but, in reality, it is far far better! Modern, clean and comfortable!
Everywhere is spotlessly clean;the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is excellent with great breakfasts and superb dinners too!
The only negative point is that the drinks are quite expensive and there is a charge of 16 Euro's to use the reception safety deposit boxes!
The local tavernas just outside the hotel offer great value for money, especially the Blue Ocean.
We can recommend the Volcano excursion and Zia by night but the "simply Kos" excursion is very poor value for money and excludes lunch and also applies extra charges for admission to some of the attractions!

However the area and the hotel are great and the weather was very hot too. A good value holiday overall!

Room Tip: The standard rooms are really nice - no real need to upgrade
