This review has been a long time in coming, but definately have something to say!
My girlfriend and I are in our late fourties and figured it was time for a girls only trip, no husbands, kids, grandkids. We reviewed lots of places on the riviera maya but once we saw travellers photos and reviews of the Grand, we knew this was the only place we wanted to go and were not dissapointed.
We went last week of November 2013, and the weather was perfect. Rained one evening and every day was sunshine!! Temperature was late 20's, absolutely perfect.
The Grand truly was just that .....Grand.....so beautiful and everything was perfect, food, drinks, service! We were treated so well by everyone there, the staff got to know us in our short stay (7 days) and always took great care and were genuine in making sure everything was perfect. The food was beyond our expectations and the rose champagne was a hit! Grey Goose and water was our other drink and we just couldn't believe it was poured freestyle with bottled water on the side. We went to the Japanese restaurant one night and Tony's another....awesome. But we are not big eaters and found the buffet was so amazing that we prefered that, so much variety and the sushi was our favorite. Breakfast was so good, but once again, we had yogurt and fruit, the food did look exceptional tho! Always wanted to try but the bikini won out.
The room was beautiful, queen size bed each and so many pillows. The bathroom set up was perfect for two girls travelling together as we each had one side of the bathroom for all our "gear" and could chat as we got ready for the evening without getting in each others way as all our toiletries were able to be on seperatedsides of bathroom with towels, mirrors and plug ins. Lots of closet space and drawers. The outside patio had a couch and a wicker swing, such a peaceful place to have a beverage before going out.
We passed the days by the pool working on our tans and got dressed up for evening. Not much happenning at night but we met a lot of great people and would play pool and enjoy cocktails and chatting. Went to the disco one night at the neighboring Iberostar and danced the night away. We were driven to and from in golf carts by Iberostar staff.
We had access to all the other Iberostar resorts in the area and walked over to the neighboring one , but after checking it out , couldn't get 'home' fast enough. We were already staying at the best......need I say more! '
We definately had a wonderful time and were treated like royality. I highly reccomend it. Food was amazing, as were the drinks. Did not feel out of place as two women travelling. However, we are both very social and work in the hospiality industry and can make small talk with anyone. We have kept in touch with people we met thru facebook. Monte Carlo, Russia, etc.
Like I said at the beginning .....truly Grand!!!
