First, I will say the golf course was in great shape. I played in early-mid April, and other than being nearly unbearably hot on the back nine, the golf was enjoyable. I had been hoping for some more ocean scenery however there were no holes overlooking the water. As I mentioned the course was in great shape, soft, true greens, rolling fairways and challenging but fair course overall. If you're staying at the resort it's definitely worth the price of admission.

We were staying at a resort about a 3 minute drive away and signed up to play anyway and treat it as an excursion. The green fees, cart, transportation to and from the course, food and alcohol were included for about $199 USD/pp. Rental clubs were $40 for an average set, and $65 for a nice set. Golf balls were about $11-12/dozen for 'average' (Pinnacle Gold) balls. If you don't have your clubs with you it get's pricey quick.

I don't regret the round as it was an enjoyable day, the beer was always cold, and food was decent. I would save your money, though, if you're not staying on the resort.

An excellent Pete Dye course; scenic; undulating fairways; challenges galore. Designed as a resort course with five sets of tees to cater to every level.

You can score on this course - but only if you hit straight. Long bananna ball hitters beware...

On the green in two - still far from home safely. Very fast manicured greens, very large (including a triple green), and many multi-break putts will keep you humble.

Hint: Use one extra club on approach - especially for centre/back pins. Many false fronts that will send you into deep crevices.

Fairly wide open so that beginners do not spend huge time looking for a ball. Played 18 holes in four hours.

Host to Big Break, for good reason.

If you are a guest at the Iberostar, golf is included - as well as cart, drinks, etc. No hidden charges. They rent quality clubs (Ping) at a reasonable rate.

Clubhouse is nothing special , but you came for the golf - no ?

If so, you will enjoy !

This is a professionally designed golf course that will challenge the very best golfers. Tough layout and many hazards for a typical resort course. Lots of water, even more sand, and not a level fairway to be found anywhere! If you know what you're getting involved in on the first tee, then you will be happy with your experience. Service was excellent.

Excellent Pete Dye Track - scenic; well maintained, challenging and fair. Used for Big Break - understandably..

Well structured for vacation golf - fairly wide open - to prevent beginners from searching endlessly for their ball. Played 4-hour 18.

Very fair high handicap/ "women's " tees..

If you hit a straight ball - very good - otherwise good luck...

Most holes use one extra club to the large (elevated) green- if you come up short adventures await...

On in two ? The fun is just beginning... Greens fast and very difficult to read - frequent double break putts.

If you are at the Iberostar rounds are included with cart, free cart services, drinks, water, etc.

Extra rounds for $49... (regular up to $200).

Quality clubs (Ping) available for rent at a reasonable price - or they will store your clubs there for free.

Clubhouse disappointing/ minimalistic.

Every golfer we talked to Loved It !

Many holes were postcard picture perfect and memorable. great variety of holes, some straight away while some quite long and difficult. Many holes were framed on either side by the Mayan jungle. Fairways were like carpets. Deep bunkers and collection areas around the greens called for a high quick stopping approach shot. Greens were in great condition - fast and had character although seemed easy to read the breaks.

We had about a 45 minute delay due to a heavy downpour that we waited out by heading back to the clubhouse for beer which was included as part of my all inclusive package at the Maya. Food was also included although I did not partake. After the storm passed, we headed back out to find some wet spots but course was very playable and draining really well considering amount of rain that fell in the short time.

Overall I was very impressed and the course was as nice as any I have ever played including a couple TPC venues and most all of the Myrtle Beach area courses. The price at $49 twilight rate was a bargain especially considering the beverage cart amenities were also part of my package.
