Time of Stay: July 11-18

This is our 6th trip to an all-inclusive resort in the Maya Riviera but our first time at this facility. The grounds were very nice and extremely well-kept. The only thing that brought our stay down was the food and restaurants. Walking distances were not excessive. There are a lot of animals everywhere! We never used the pool but it was beautiful. The architecture and bars were beautiful. It is a family resort and there was always something going on to keep kids of all ages occupied.

Check In: 5 out of 5.

Move In: 5 out of 5.

Beach: 5 out of 5.
-Beautiful beach!!!

Grounds: 5+ out of 5.

Rooms: 3+ out of 5.
-Need updating. The TV's were from the 90's and the bathrooms were old too. All in all, the rooms need to be completely revamped.

Discobar: 5 out of 5.
Very good time for travelers over the age of 18. Music was fabulous. It was located in the shopping center which was also very beautiful.

Beach Activities: 5 out of 5.
-The activity staff had games on the beaches everyday and Zumba class in the afternoon as well as volleyball. Music was always playing and made spending time at the beach more enjoyable.

Buffet Restaurants: 3 out of 5.
-Breakfast was the worst meal. Long lines if you wanted omlettes or eggs, pancakes, etc. Serving trays were empty most of the time or we spent time waiting to be refilled. Water glasses/coffee cups were rarely refilled so we chose to fill them ourselves. The kitchen is extremely understaffed and the chefs on the serving floor were very friendly but very overworked and overwhelmed.

-Lunch at the buffet on the beach was just OK. Strictly cheeseburgers and hot dogs. BRING YOUR OWN KETCHUP!!! It's some concoction of runny red paste.

-Dinner buffet was similar to breakfast in the manner of lack of chefs preparing the foods. The food lacked a lot of variety and we spent more time in line waiting for food to be replenished than actually eating. The pasta dishes were never filled and lacked creativity. Not a lot of chicken or beef options but a lot of fish choices.

Japanese Restaurant: 5 out of 5.
Go here if you can. Really good food!

Mexican Restaurant: 5 out of 5.

Steakhouse Restaurant: 4 out of 5.

Brazilian Restuarant: We did not attend this restaurant but everyone we talked to said it was a disaster. The restaurant is on the beach and the food is sub-par.

All in all we enjoyed our stay it could have been made better if the food issues had not been there.

The resort itself is very nice, awesome pool and the beach is great.

The food was not good at all. So disappointing after saving up for our vacation. The buffet had the same thing just about everyday but the specialty restaurants were fine.

We tried to book to keep our room later on the day we were leaving for 50.00 but were unable to do so. Our flight left at 9:15 at night.

You get what you pay for so we'll move onto another hotel next time. Have had great vacations in Cancun, Puerta Plata, Punta Cana, Jamaica and this was our first not so good one.

Happy Vacationing!

Room Tip: Keep looking for other hotels, but we were in building 38 and it was central to the restaurants and...

We stay here in 2006, and again in February 2012. We came back to this hotel because we remembered it as having very good food, services, rooms and activities. We we not disappointed. We have stay at other hotels over the years (in Cuba and the Mayan Riverera) and there was alway something that did not measure up. At the Paraiso beach, everything is great, the pools, the beach, the activites, the food and the rooms.
We would stay here again.

Tom

Room Tip: Best to be central in the complex. Half way between the lobby and the beach.

Having previously stayed a few years ago at the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo (which is next to this resort), I was afraid I wouldn’t like it as much. We loved the Lindo! I would pick the Lindo over the Beach though only because of the walking distance. The Lindo is set closer to the beach and has less walking. The Beach is loooooong and skinny. Our room was midway down…. Minimum 8 minute walk to the lobby and easily an 8 minute walk to beach. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but when it’s hot and humid or you just need to run to the room real quick, it’s a pain. And the little carts are never around when you need one.

Rooms:

Our room had 2 double beds and a day bed. This was ideal as one of our sons kicks in his sleep so the younger son was quite grateful to have the day bed made up so he could sleep separately. We had a second floor room that was away from the stairwell and was very quiet. The room was in good shape and we had plenty of towels. I sleep with 3 pillows and they gladly brought them up for me!

Restaurants:

We just had to do Teppanyaki again… same experience as before. The second night we did the El Rodizio. This is a Brazilian cuisine restaurant and it was delicious! You must, of course, enjoy all things meat! We left stuffed and quite pleased. Our last night we did the Buffet… again same as before.

Pool:

Here you have a couple of pools. We stayed in the one that had the swim up bar most of the time, but it is a meandering lagoon pool and very spacious. The boys especially liked the ice cream bar next to the pool. Also, since you are next to the Lindo, which is where the wave pool is, we snuck over to play in that too.

Beach:

Very weedy. Remember that this is cyclical though. The last time we were here, there were no weeds. They come and go is what I have been told. So, you just never know. We moved a little South down in front of the Lindo and there weren’t any weeds there.

Activities:

The beauty of this resort is that you can participate in as much or as little as you choose. My kids were off doing archery, ping pong, beach soccer and pool sports. My hubby played water volleyball and I sat and read several good books! There is also a kids program that I would recommend. My kids won’t do them, but I watched them with other children and the staff was very attentive.

Bars:

Lots of spots to get a drink. You never have to walk too far and of course there is beer in your mini-fridge in your room. Our drinks were not watered down at all. They carry mostly house brand until we were up by the billiards. That’s when the bartender brought out the good stuff!

Entertainment:

Standard but entertaining while you have a drink after dinner and shoot some pool. There is a new theme each night and do a pretty good job of it.

Overall, I would stay again. Our family left Mexico tanner, relaxed and glad to have been somewhere warmer than Chicago, even if it was only a week.

I recently felt compelled to write a review of the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar due to the terrible experience I had there (which was really only due to the front desk staff). I feel like I need to let everyone know that the Iberostar hotel complex in Riviera Maya is awesome. My bad experience was not related to the beach, pool, food, star friends or any of that.

This place is great. I have been to Mexico every year for the last 10 years. I have been to the Iberostar for 8 of those 10. I love this place for many reasons. It feels safe, the food is pretty good, the beach is awesome, the pool is awesome, and most of the people you will deal with are great. I like being able to let me 2 teenager daughters go pretty much where ever they want in the complex. There is security everywhere but they are not invasive. They just hang back and make sure everything is OK and step in when they need to.

The bartenders work extremely hard, as you might expect and an AI, but they are always friendly and more often than not, they will know your name on your 3rd trip to the bar. We usually stay 7 nights. By the 3rd day the bartenders make my drink for me as soon as they see me walk up (of course this is not just me, they remember everyone that is a regular at the bar...). The beach is clean, the sand is perfect, the water is crystal clear... Paradise!

The star friends really go out of their way to make sure you have fun. There are activities constantly (volley ball, bocce ball, darts, archery, soccer, air guns, dance lessons, ping pong, Zumba, yoga, mechanical bull, on and on). They put on shows every night. Some are put on by professional dancers, magicians, etc. Some are a just the star friends. They can be a little cheesy but if you get into it, its a blast.

Yes, the AC (and fan and fridge) will turn off after a while when you leave. Anytime I was walking by the room I would just open the door and close it to reset the timer.

Room Tip: Get close to the actual beach. Don't stay at the Paraiso Del Mar, stay at the Paraiso Beach. I...

This was our 4th time to go there and we were given upgrades, tequila and beach bags as repeat guests. This is a great resort for the price. We are a very active couple - late 50's and we love it. You have to do a lot of walking as the shuttle is not very reliable. But how could a walk through beautiful grounds with lush vegetation and peacocks and unusual critters running all around be anything but fun??? We lived on the beach but tried to stay away from the activities as they get a little loud. The pool is big enough so you can be in the party spots or find a quiet secluded area.

The food is okay, but we don't go there to eat. Be sure to try the coconut ice cream by the pool bar. The Mediterranean restaurant was my favorite. The Italian was good and Japanese, only okay. The entertainment is very cheesy but fun depending on what mood you're in. The Mexican cultural show was the best.

We were there in June and it was very humid. I would recommend a cooler time of year if possible.
