Had a few days rest here. Right beside the sea - few 100 metres from beach. Good room - no view on ground floor- probably safer upstairs

The best part about Hotel Bayahibe is how close it is to all of the excursion operators, so there's no need to wake up too early for your tour of Saona and Catalina islands. The hotel also offers a good free breakfast, free valuables storage during the day, and cheap prices. Unfortunately, our first-floor room was extremely dark and had some mold on the bathroom ceiling, and the staff spoke almost no English at all.

I liked it. A beautiful and clean little village. Clean rooms, nice people, good breakfast. Excellent prices.

We stayed at Hotel Bayahibe two nights at the end of August 2010. The hotel is located right in town, on the main road, across the street from a small port, and a long walk to the beach. We rented two rooms (304 and 305), with two double beds each, A/C, small TV set (14-15") with cable, small fridge, and breakfast included, for RD$2,300 each (about $63) per day. We were not charged for anything that we consumed at breakfast. The selection in the menu was okay.

When we checked-in, we got two remote controls, one for each room. One worked fine; the other would not work with the TV. Our son went to Reception to ask for another control and was told he had to program the control himself. Otherwise, we had no complaints. The room was nicely clean, soap, shampoo and clean towels, and two bottles of water every day. There is a computer for guest use by the reception. No Wi-Fi available at all, which I would say is rare in this day and age with everyone so connected.

We had a car with us and drove around (street parking available). The town is quite small and easy to do on foot; I’d say no more than 3-4 blocks. The beach, however, looked like it was rather a long walk especially during daytime when it’s so hot. I asked at reception, and was told that it was only 400 meters away, that’s about 4 blocks. I think it’s a lot more than that, but we drove slowly and it could just have been my impression. The hotel, however, mentioned that they would give guests a ride to the beach if requested.

There’s no shortage of places to eat within walking distance. We went to several restaurants, including Barco Bar several times (they have Wi-Fi), El Café de la Cubana, a great pizzeria a block away, and a great Italian restaurant on the port but we forgot to look at the name.

We asked at the hotel but never got the information for a diving tour, so we ended up booking separately a trip to Isla Saona (with a stop in the natural pool) with one of the guides by the port across the street, for about $42 or so per person. We left at 10:30am in a speed boat and returned at around 4:30pm by catamaran. Lunch buffet and drinks (rum and coke or soft beverages on the boats, stops and lunch) were included. We had a very good time and thought it was worth it even though we were somewhat mislead to believe that we could snorkel in this trip if we brought are own equipment but it wasn’t worth bringing it. My husband booked a short diving trip from the shop right below the hotel and enjoyed it.

Overall, I would say that Hotel Bayahibe is a good value, budget hotel but desk service needs to be improved a notch.

I stayed at this hotel once in May 2010 and once again in August 2010. The price increased by $15/room (for 2 people) and the quality of the hotel decreased. The TV was barely working--the remote didn't work and the 4 channels were fuzzy. Fine, I don't really watch TV on vacation, but of course this is one of the amenities that you are getting overcharged for. There are only 2 or 3 rooms with views, the others are either too low or on the other side of the hotel, which is very loud because of the bar/hang out spot about 1 block away. You can't have the windows open at night. The service was so-so. One person working there (she was there both times) was MISERABLE. Just really unhelpful and rude. The others were pretty nice. The breakfast used to be included in the price, but no-more, and we didn't know this until we had eaten and were paying. The rooms were not particularly clean, and aren't very nice. Not worth $65/night in my opinion. Maybe I'm just being picky, but when you can see the hotel getting worse and the prices are going up, you kind of assume that the owner is just trying to get every dime off of you possible. There aren't any other hotels that I am aware of in the town, but I think there are guest houses or something, so I would suggest looking elsewhere. But the town is really nice and a great location.

We just got back from a weekend at Hotel Bayahibe. The hotel is right in the center of the tiny town of Bayahibe. It is easily accessible by bus and has a little supermarket right around the corner.

The rooms are big, with two double beds, air conditioning, ceiling fan, hot & cold water, mini-fridge, cable TV, a small balcony and are clean and well kept.

The price is right - $RD 1700 for the night, which includes breakfast, chaise lounge chairs on the beach and beach towels.

The beach is about a 4 minute walk from the hotel and is quite small. When we were there it was not very clean, a lot of debris from the sea had washed up. Also, one of the big hotel chains has roped off about half of the beach and only their hotel patrons can use the beach and water.

There is not anything to do in Bayahibe besides go to the beach and take a tour to one of the islands (Saona or Catalinita). The hotel offers a tour for $RD 1100 a person. it is all day and includes lunch and drinks.

There is a great little restaurant called El Cafecito de la Cubana which is right on the beach - you can't miss it when you walk down to go to the beach. The food was FABULOUS (pasta, cuban specialties, fish, meat etc - big menu) and the owner really makes you feel at home. She sent over a free appetizer for us! I would definitely recommend going for lunch or dinner here! They also serve great mojitos!

For the price (RD$ 1700) this hotel is a great find. The only thing that we did not appreciate was that we asked to checkout at 1:30pm (instead of the 1:00pm checkout time) and they said they would have to charge us an additional night. There were about 3 other rooms occupied in the WHOLE hotel, so I am sure that they didn't have anyone waiting for our room. But other than this, everything was great!
