We were a group of 14 college students and 2 adults staying here for our first two nights in the Dominican Republic. The owners were very accommodating to our group, particularly since we were large, relative to the size of the place. They even served us breakfast an hour and a half before their regular 8:00 start time to accommodate our early departure time on our last day there. The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed. The location off of the "main road" (it's a pretty small town) was nice, although you could still hear the music and scooters from the local colmado. Probably the case anywhere in Bayahibe... Having WiFi available on the patio was a plus, as we did not have access to the internet in many of the locations on our month-long visit to the DR. I definitely plan to return to Villa Iguana with my family in the future.

Room Tip: Only a few of the rooms have air conditioning, so be sure to ask about that.

I stayed two nights at Villa Iguana, in June 2011. It was a very good choice. As I really hate huge beach resorts I was searching something smaller and far from All-inclusive hotels. Bayhibe still maintains its intimate and informal charm. The Villa and its staff are easy going, helpful and discrete. You can communicate there in German and French, and obviously in English and Spanish. It is located few minutes from the village centre, and from the seaside (beach and harbour). The bus stop and shops are also easy to reach. Breakfast and cleanness were ok.
They offered me a very good price, though I was not intending to stay there a full week.
Nice, calm, well-maintained and pretty budget place close to the famous Parque Nacional del Este!

We tried this place despite some negative feedback from others. The owners were extremely helpful and the staff friendly.
It gets a little noisy sometimes (roosters, dogs, music) but I expect that in the middle of a village.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We stayed at the apartment on the second floor. The photos on the hotel's website do actually re...

The Villa Iguana is straight-forward, immaculate, and convenient. As others have noted, the important thing to know is that they have a range of accomodations from very small, reasonable rooms, through serviced apartments, to a unique roof-top apartment with pool. We stayed in an excellent second floor one bedroom apartment for a very fair price. The double bed was comfortable, the living room/kitchen were ample and well-appointed, the bathroom had a small shower with an ecosensitive amount of hot water, and there was an adjoining outside patio for sitting or dining--more than we needed, including fan, AC and TV.

Werner, the owner, met us cheerfully at the front gate, after dark and with no reservation, and showed us to the apartment. We settled in quickly to go out for dinner, but my husband had several pleasant conversations with him during our stay. We were not looking for too much guidance--a laid back apartment setting was perfect. [My only complaint would be that the wireless connection was very weak after the kitchen door was locked for the night--4pm when we were there--an odd but minor inconvenience.] Remember, though, the Villa Iguana does not claim to be a full service hotel.

Bayahibe itself is a charming Dominican town of the kind that is fast disappearing. Small, peaceful and organized, it has what seems to be a compatible mix of Dominicans and European expats, who all go about their business with quiet confidence. If the ubiqitous all inclusive resorts are not for you, or if you want to experience the DR beyond their walls, this is the perfect town in which to spend some time and wander around. We particularly enjoyed a few things: the town folks are very friendly and engaging, yet independent, the morning sounds are authenticly Dominican pueblo (roosters), and there are several good restaurants. In the latter category, Mare Nostrum (Italian/seafood-closed Mondays) was truly exceptional, the food beautifully prepared and served on a second floor, covered wooden veranda overlooking the bay--small lights and candles made it all delightfully romantic. Everything in Bayahibe is within easy walking distance.

We were very pleased to have found the Villa Iguana and stayed longer than planned.

We stayed in the bottom floor one bedroom apartment. It was great. Full kitchen (small but enough) but the best pasrt was the private patio outside with a table, chairs and a BBQ pit. It is centrally located within easy walking distance to everything. The grocery store and ATM were just a block away and the beach/restaurants were 2 blocks. We paid 600 for a week so basically the same price as a hotel room and we saved money by cooking meals in and it was nice to have a fresh pot of coffee and the news in the morning. The patio was great for rinsing out the dive gear and letting it dry each day. Has A/C in the bedroom which was nice and wifi in the lobby.

Room Tip: We had the bottom apartment.

My bf and I stayed here on a recent trip to Bayahibe- my favorite DR destination! We chose this place because we really didn't want to be isolated on a resort without any cultural experience whatsoever. Plus the price was very reasonable.
The first night, we stayed in a basic room with air since we got there late at night. It was so small, our luggage filled up the whole room. The bed was not comfortable at all so we decided to change rooms. The next 2 nights we opted for the "Penthouse' suite. Basically you get the entire top level of the building. Its all open air except for where you sleep. You have a private terrace and small private pool. We really enjoyed it. As far as the owners, the man was nice and helpful. The lady didn't seem like wanted to be bothered with us. The cook/maid was very, very nice. Breakfast is very simple so don't expect much. (2 HB eggs, slice of lunch meat, toast, OJ). If you want to be pampered, don't go here. If you want more of an "apartment" setting, this is good for you.
One thing that disturbed me. They had 2 Rotweillers that stay downstairs in cages all the time. They have one other dog upstairs in their apartment. As we were leaving, they let out the Rot for a potty break and just happened to open their apartment door at the same time. The Rot ran into their apt and started attacking the other dog. Our transportation was waiting for us, so I'm not sure if the dog was ok. But the man and lady both were yelling, the dog was obviously in distress, the other dogs jaws was locked onto it, and I was mortified. I know it was an accident, but nonetheless disturbing and something I wish I wouldn't have witnessed. I did see that the owners were trying to sell the place.

Room Tip: Ask for the penthouse if you really want to enjoy!

Small hotel, clean and calm.
Air-con and small breakfast.

It is OK if you don't stay long, beacuse it is really small, there is no area to relax, no bar or restaurant.
