“Very nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2012

Really enjoyed the stay. traveled for two weeks with 18 months little boy in April 2010. The weather was nice and warm. The resort is friendly with nice animation. Rooms are really nice. The food is excellent with a lot of variety and fresh juices. The beach is beautiful. Guests are from all over. The pool is very nice with an area for children.
We had an excellent time and will return. My boy really enjoyed it and the kid's club is real fun.
As a single mother with little boy I had easy life. All is easily accessible and everybody kind and helpful. Babysitting provided through the resort.
It was nice to have shops selling many beach toys at a good price.
Sunbeds can be hard to find and all reserved by the sea.But it was not a great issue for us.
Expensive beautiful pictures from the photographers of the hotel turning around. I would definetely recommend it.

Spend two weeks at this hotel with two young kids and everything went well. As many others will say major renovation in the bathroom is needed but room was always very clean and beds are confortable so giving the fact that this is a not a new hotel ...was really OK! Kids Club is AMAZING even if your kids are only speaking Italien, french, english or spanish Really WOW! Staff are very helpfull and most of them are really nice. we were entertained in spanish, english, french and italian. the show is done by the staff who does their best from 9 o'clock in the morning to 2 at night!!! Now the bad side, Food was really low average and the bar staff very young so... Beach is a good one for those who loved shade! but once you are inform of that and bring two or three good bottle of wine ...you ve good vacation !!!

Almost every aspect of Catalonia Gran Dominicus was superb. Staff were extraordinarily friendly & helpful. The room was lovely -- it paid to get the $5/pp/night "comfort" upgrade, really no need for the more expensive "privilege" upgrade. The beds were comfortable, there was a flat screen TV (that we never used) with many North American channels , and a modern bath with a large shower with handheld and rainshower heads.

The grounds are magnificent and well maintained -- the resort even has its own plant nursery. The animation staff ran programs all day and put on shows in the theater each night -- some were excellent professional dancers, although the non-dancing shows left something to be desired. Good choice of food in the buffet as well as three excellent à la carte restaurants -- steakhouse, Mexican and Italian. The food and the presentation of the food in the Italian restaurant matched any high-end Italian restaurant in Canada. The pizzeria was open till 2 am and the crêperie made fine crêpes any time during the day. The vegetarian in our family wished there had been more vegetarian options in the buffet. The central bar was a meeting place day and night -- a real social centre each evening -- with dancing, good conversation and many people. This is more of a family resort so probably not ideal for young people seeking a "partying" place.

The gym was decent -- unlike most resorts that claim to have a fitness centre. As well, there were two good tennis courts, a regulation size basketball court and beach-based bocce courts and volleyball. There was unlimited, free use of the resorts two catamarans to go sailing. The beach was a bit of a disappointment as a hurricane a few years back had exposed rock on the western half of the beach. The eastern end was not a problem. The sand was lovely and white with palm trees lining the beach so one could escape the sun after baking too long. There were always available reclining chairs for lying in the sun and a generous policy for beach towels. The pool was huge, although we always preferred the beach. There were many Latin dancing lessons, taught by the fine dancers who entertained at night.

There were stores on site and it was only a 20-minute, pleasant walk into the village of Dominicus Americanus that had many shops, both local and high-end tourist.

Room Tip: Pay the $5/pp.night to get the "comfort" option, which is a renovated room near the beach.

Everything was top except the beach. Not the water, the beach. Its a 2 level beach, for those who love the shade it is perfect, otherwise you have to look for a place that has sun going through the palm trees. you cannot walk much because the second layer of the beach is on a slant also and lots of rocks or coral...
but like I said a beautiful place with lots of flowers , trees, palm trees etc...I wouldn't go back only because of the beach, the rest of the hotel was very nice and pretty...

January 2012 - we had a good time - some of the rooms are in need of renovations - mostly in the bathrooms - unless you are willing to pay an extra 5USD/pers per night for a comfort room - you will be stuck with a sink you are afraid will be falling on your feet if you even place a glass of water on it - there is not counter!!! The resort itself is a 4 star but our room was no more than a 3.
the food is good - excellent service-
as for the beach - last year`s strom season really damaged it - several rockentering in the water and you have to swim or check your steps eve once in the water - the beach at the Iberostar next door was much nicer.

Room Tip: you need to pay extra for a comfort or priviliged room - otherwise the bathroom is a 3 stars at best

Had a great time, the staff was great, gardens were beautiful, food was really good, the beach was OK... not ideal for kids, too many rocks, but good enough for adults. its the rooms that made me mad, family of 4, we had 2 rooms. I had 2" long cockroaches in my room, thousands of ants, fridge did not work, cleaning staff leave sliding doors open and once had no towels and no water in fridge..... and yes, i did tip $5 every day to cleaning people .very strong cigar odour from previous occupants. We were willing to pay extra for the upgrade but they said no rooms were available. Such a beautiful resort with very poor rooms...its too bad.

First of all thanks to all staff of CGD for making our stay memorable.
We stayed with two small kids two and five over the Christmas at Dominicus and all I can say this place rocks, big time. The hotel, the food, the set up, the entertainment team everything was 10+. Only set back for us was beach which is not realy small kids friendly, but don't take me wrong beach itself is beautiful.
We will be back in a few years summer time, luv ya all and thank you.
