“Beautiful ! Not one complaint !”
Reviewed February 13, 2014

Spent 10 days at this resort Jan 31 - Feb 10/14 - Absolutely wonderful ! from the rooms to the food to the drinks ! All the staff are very friendly and helpful - the beach is beautiful - lots of chairs and little huts to hide from the sun if you need to ! The grounds are so beautiful and so well looked after - the resort is kept immaculate ! We stayed in House # 4 - our room looked out onto the beach. Will definitely go back !

This resort has lots to offer: reasonably good food & drinks, impeccable bedrooms, beautiful grounds & facilities, a top notch, multi-lingual staff including an outstanding, warm-hearted, hard working animation team that gives this resort that special character not often seen elsewhere. Bravo to Gabriel, Nicolas, Iris & Lenny!!

The beach is not as nice as in Punta Cana, however, the water is a bit warmer and calmer, which I appreciate. I would not recommend this beach for pre-schoolers as you find yourself in about 4 feet of water just a couple of steps inward. I would like Iberostar to supply the beach maintenance staff some sort of motorized equipment similar to that used at the Iberostar in Punta Cana as they are literally sifting the sand by hand...gruelling work under the hot sun. Perhaps the equipment was out of order over a period of 2 weeks?

Room Tip: Building 3 is nicely situated....away from the noise of the evening entertainment and near the pool.

Staff - 5 Stars, could not do enough to help or serve you - smiles, smiles, smiles!

Grounds - 5 Stars, incredible to walk through. Beautiful!!!

Rooms - 5 Stars, holy cow, never seen a room so CLEAN!!! Not a speck of sand or bug anywhere.

Beach - 5 Stars, just get rid of the idiots parking their towels ALL DAY under the shady beach palapas - unbelievable how people can claim "ownership" like this - management - DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!! It starts before dawn...give me a break...

Pool - 5 Stars, never a problem getting a chair here, kids will love it, good swim up bar.

Food - 4 stars - Staff are incredible, gets a bit monotonous, needs more local flare, and some SPICE!!!

"Specialty" restaurants - 4 stars - Went to the steak and gourmet....ehhhh...nothing special. Same sort of food available at the buffet trying to be served in a more upscale atmosphere...staff again incredible, but really, food not different at all.

Drinks - 4 stars - poor guy at the beach bar works his tail off, had to wait a while when he is busy. BTW, nothing could be more unhygienic than reusing hard plastic cups "washed" on location at the beach bar...give me a break. When they run out of cups and they come back to the bar by the hundreds (and they do), how thoroughly do they get washed? And by what water? The same water that you tell us not to drink? Time to start using disposal plastic cups. Being "green" and "eco friendly" is an excise to save a few bucks at the risk of bad hygiene.

BTW, re. drinks, they have better brands available, JUST ASK FOR IT and they will give it to you.

Entertainment - gulp - 1 star...wow...two "shows" was enough. Hey I wasn't expecting Vegas, but OMG...yes - that bad. Not a big deal, just chilled out in the massive lobby/bar area sipping drinks and meeting new friends.

Great mix of people at the resort. I speak only English and I was in the 5% minority and LOVED it. Lots of people from Argentina, lots of Euros, few Russians, few Canadian, few Americans and that is what made this trip special - it was great to meet sincere people from around the world. Great place to bring a family, not so great if you a single.

I would go back to this resort. Family loved it!

This was out first trip to the Dominican since 2003 and a lot has changed, mostly for the better.
The Iberostar Hacienda is located about half an hour from La Romana near the villages of Bayahibe and Dominicus. This area had almost no reorts 11 years ago.
The resort is beautiful with expansive gardens with lots of local birds and plants. The lobby area has a large assortment od great looking pieces of furniture, many of which appear to be antiques. The front desk is large and well organized with an adequate number of staff on duty. Change #1, the language skills of the Dominicans in the tourist industry have improved immensely with most speaking English, French and German adequately or better, yes, all 3 languages.
The service is prompt, polite, enthusiastic and cheerful. Nobody should be able to suggest this hotel provides poor service, it is flawless. Paulie on the activities desk was a huge help, a mine of information, speaks better English than a lot of the natural English speakers with whom he deals.
Likewise, Cesar on the front desk was great.
We usually used the buffets, 1 for breakfast, 2 for lunch and 1 for supper. The selection of food is huge although a lot of it was strange and, to me, not that palatable. I did always find something I liked and always had more than enough to eat.
We tried two of the a la carte restaurants, Japanese and Steak, and the food was very good and more than plentiful.
The room was always clean with the little extras we have come to expect in these resorts.
The water sometimes takes a while to get hot so run it before you want to get in.
The pool area(s) are spotless, the swim up bar is good, clean and well staffed. Likewise the beach is close and the bar there is well staffed. One waiter on the beach stood out. I never got his name but he walks up and down with a tray full of drinks calling out for people to get them. Up and down, over and over. Hard working and funny guy.
The prices of goods in the resort stores is quite high. For example, a bottle of good rum was $32 in the store and 2/$34 in a store we stopped at on a tour.
Another fun person was the animation guy, Nicola. Good for a laugh or three.
The negatives, as such.
The beach is not as nice as Punta Cana. The water isn't as clear and the reason for that is the reef off Punta Cana where all the waves break leaving the bays nice and calm. Not that the beach here is bad but it has more of a slope, the sand is less fine and there are a few rocks in the water.

After one tough year of university I decided to take a trip to reward myself. I choose Iberostar Haceinda and had the best experience ever. Because of timing and I ended going solo. Overall I was treated pretty well, some staff treated me differently however.

Food was good. However the service in the a la carte restaurants where sometimes not the greatest, again probably because I was solo. The resort itself was spotless kept spotless and the service was super friendly.

Thanks for the amazing experience! I'm coming in 11 days. Look forward to see you all again.

Had a 2-week stay at the Iberostar Hacienda at the beginning of January 2014 and had a most wonderful holiday. Lovely beech (although a bit crowded) but this meant the pool (which was huge) was very quiet and relaxing in the morning - games were held later in the afternoon for those who wished to participate. If you didn't, you were left alone. The pool was cleaned every morning. The main buffet restaurant had a wide selection of food at lunch and dinner - you would have to be an extremely fussy eater not to find something you liked! There were also 4 other restaurants, Japanese (my favourite), Gourmet (delicious), Mexican (ok) and a Steakhouse (wasn't so keen on this only because the steaks were so big it was just too much! Am not complaining, just saying! The service in all the restaurants was absolutely fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. They also had a wine list, so if you didn't want their house wine you could order something else. The rooms were comfortable and very clean and quiet. The gardens and surrounding areas were wonderful and each block had its own (different) garden all attended to daily. The animation team were the best I have ever encountered. They were so cheerful, helpful and generally intertaining. My husband is learning Spanish and attended the Spanish lessons with Eliezer by the pool every morning. Eliezer really helped him and spoke to him all the time in Spanish, as did the other members of the team in the bar in the evenings - Lenny and Derlin. They work a really long day 10.00 to 01.00 but are always smiling - they really made our holiday. The hotel is suitable for couples young and old and families. I wouldn't normally return to any hotel but I definitely would this one! Highly recommend it. My favourite part of the day - sitting at the beech bar with a Pina Colada watching the sun set.......

Room Tip: Make sure you have a room that doesn't overlook the pool if you like an afternoon siesta!

Had a great time at Iberostar Hacienda in Dominican Republic. The weather was perfect, great beach, good food and nice service. Was a bit crowded, 95% Europeans who didnt speak much English and littering on the beach. I have to compliment hotel staff for being patient and pleasant!
