Holidayed from the 3rd December to 17th December.
Second time at this hotel as good as we remembered.
Weather was very good had rain but mainly at night rained a little on a couple of days but only for minutes. The rest of the time sunny with a little cloud hot but not to hot just right for us.
Resturants were all good, in the al a carte's we enjoyed the Gourmet one the best fantastic Lobster and great staff treated us amazingley. Its down to your own taste in food etc., to which one you will enjoy.
We spent alot of our time on the beach, sand was kept clean staff working ever day cleaning it. Sea warm and water clear some snorkelling to do. The bar staff were great as well had some good laughs with them.
Pools clean and plenty of sunbeds with mattress's on.
The gardens are kept nice there were some lovely orchids in one area all different colours.
Our room was large with king sized bed and balcony overlooking garden and pool, maid kept it lovely and clean with some great towel displays.
Lobby bar comfortable with good waitress service if you did not want to go to the bar.
All staff we found were pleasant and tried to help where possible.
The only two negatives that we had was that after dinner in the evening when you just wanted to chill out having a drink in the lobby bar ,you really struggled to find a seat. On two nights we gave up looking for a seat after walking around two or three times and went back to our rooms. The hotel needs to look at this and get more seating there is plenty of room to do this. The other thing that niggled us they charge you 2 dollars a day for the safe in your room. We have stopped at similar star hotels to this one and the safe as been free.
Other than these two negatives the holiday was brilliant would go back again, but it appears that the main holiday company's in England that go there have taken this hotel of their books for next winter. We can only go winter because of my husbands job so we are really disappointed, went with Thomsons this time.

We went to the Iberostar Jan 18-25, 2013. It was a relaxed and pleasant experience. Here are some details, and feel free to ask with questions.

GROUNDS

Truly lovely, very lush and immaculately kept. There is a lot of water - fountains and pools throughout - with a main pond in the middle featuring ducks, swans, herons and flamingos, which the hotel feeds to keep them there and happy. It's a nice feature. There is always somebody working at improving the grounds, planting new shrubs or maintaining what's already there.

The buildings are in the grand colonial style, with 20 foot ceilings and wide hallways. Each of the seven accommodation buildings has its own courtyard (the rooms do not face on to them), each one a little different. The only criticism is that the furniture is also large, so that the lobby bar and the theatre do not fit as many people as they should, and it can be hard to find a seat when entertainment is going on.

ROOMS

We wrote to the hotel and asked for a quiet room on the top (third) floor. We had to write more than once, but eventually got a response, and also got a gorgeous corner room in block 6 with a wrap around balcony and a great cross breeze. Between that breeze and the ceiling fan, we never turned on the a/c. Room was made up daily with towel art and flowers and cold beer in the fridge. Very comfortable bed.

FOOD

The buffet is large and varied, and you'd have to be pretty fussy to not find a plate or two of food to your liking. Fish was especially good, and each night would have a special, such as duck, turkey, lobster or sushi. Each night would have seafood paella, pasta bar, several salads, pork, beef, lamb etc. The house wine with lunch and dinner was quite drinkable.

Breakfast was served from 7-10 at the main buffet, then from 10 - 12 at the beach restaurant. All the usual, omelettes, eggs, pancakes, fresh fruit, and some nice croissants. Only problem is the bread and rolls tended to be quite stale.

Went to 3 of the a la cartes, which were not difficult to book. Japanese had good miso and spring rolls to start, then veg fried rice with 2 of chicken, beef, shrimp or octopus. All done in front of you with perhaps too much soy sauce, but a mountain of food. Mexican was pretty good - specialty was tacos. All fairly bland, though, even the "hot" salsa. The Colonial had steak, lobster or pasta, and was the only one that felt like it merely had buffet food gussied up.

BEACH AND POOL

Ah, the beach.. gorgeous white sand in front of warm, crystal clear water with never more than a gentle swell. Don't quite understand the complaints about rocks or drop off - there was lots of easy entry. Maybe those people had never swum in an ocean before?

My only complaint was the lack of good snorkeling, despite the great visibility and calm water. There just is no reef. They have created an artificial reef to one side, and if it's your first time snorkeling you will enjoy the fish it attracts, but if you're more experienced it will fail to impress: like walking through trees planted in the suburbs and saying you've seen the forest. There are snorkeling expeditions worth taking, though.

The beach bar is open from mid-morning until sunset. I can't comment on the sun lounger under the palapas issue, because we didn't go there to lie in the shade. Never had a problem finding one out in the sun where I wanted it, though. There was a notice in our welcome package saying the loungers can't be reserved and towels would be removed, but I don't know if that was being enforced.

The pool is huge and - so unlike Cuba - as warm as the ocean. It has a wide ramp for access at one end, making it accessible to all. We did see some wheelchairs there; it's a good resort for accessibility. Tons of loungers around the pool as well, and a swim up bar which was only rowdy a couple of times.

The demographic was mostly middle-aged and older couples and families, a sprinkling of small children and young couples, but not many teens.

TRIPS

We took two trips. One was a trip we had privately arranged into the National Park with one of the country's top biologists, Kelvin Guerrero. The other was the 'two island tour' through Seavis Tours in Bayahibe. We were hoping for more snorkeling on the latter trip, but did get in a decent snorkel on a pretty good section of reef near Sonoa Island. I would echo all the good recommendations of Seavis that are on this site.

ENTERTAINMENT

The animacion staff were always friendly and never pushy about joining the activities. Indeed, they could have done a bit more to walk around and let people know that something was about to start.

The nightly show was more amateurish than many we have seen. A couple of the eight dancers were excellent, but the numbers suffered from shoddy direction. The three singers could belt out a song, but couldn't sing in tune. The live band that backed them all up, however, was excellent.

The lobby bar had entertainment after dinner, either a small combo or a piano player, and sometimes the restaurant would have a strolling duo with guitars. After the show the disco opened (not until 11:30), which had good music and a responsive DJ.

STAFF

The staff were great. Check in and out was seamless and easy, bartenders and table staff unfailingly friendly and helpful. The grounds and housekeeping staff were always ready with a friendly "Hola".

Overall, we had a great time and would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have a larger balcony, and lots of light and air. First floor rooms do not offer a lot of privacy, unless you like to keep your drapes closed all the time.

We have stayed at many Iberostar resorts over the years and this is our second visit to this particular resort. If anything it was even better the second time round. Great hotel and service. There is little I can add to all the positive comments made by previous guests. Keep up the good work.

The new motorway certainly cuts the transfer time and encourages guests to book other areas of Dominican Republic rather than just staying in Punta Cana.

On the down side I do feel that the resort should provide free WiFi. This would appear to be common practice across many hotel chains in this day and age. The same is true as well regarding a safe.

I never found there to be a problem getting a palapa on the beach even over the Christmas/New Year period although I am an early riser. The problem seems to be lone individuals (judging from accents mostly from USA) coming down to the beach very early and reserving multiple loungers in the shade and then disappearing until at least lunchtime. It is small wonder others complain and arguments start.

I was very much looking forward to returning again over the Christmas/New Year period this coming year. It is extremely unfortunate that there are no UK tour operators offering this resort this year after October but yet they offer the Dreams resort next door. Very confusing!

4th time to the Hacienda and again loved every minute! Stayed Jan 13-20. My husband and I traveled with our 3 adult kids, ages 24, 21 and 18. No one wanted to leave.

Check is was a breeze with Jonathon. Thank you Jonathan, it was a great! Got adjoining rooms as requested. Rooms are always clean and the a/c worked great. Very comfortable. We were not in the rooms much but they were always very clean, always a turn down service and we had a great maid that even folded all the kids clothes. Lots of towels and bottled water. Thank you for the great maid service! The room safe was great in both rooms, thank you Kervin for getting us all set up especially the first night. haha They do not have clocks in the rooms. We take a big digital alarm clock with an extension cord because there are not a whole lot of empty outlets in the rooms.

Ate in all the restaurants but the Colonial. All were very good. We are not picky eaters and we were more than satisfied. The buffet is always very good too. Breakfast was great, always had an omelette with very little wait. The servers are the best, thanks Jose, Victor, Janet, Hector, Maria, Antonio, Remi and many more. You are all awesome, always love your smiles!

We came for the beach and thats what we did. Watched the sun rise on the beach and stayed passed sunset every night. The lighthouse bar is wonderful, a very unique place to be especially at sunset. Yan, Nino and Apirito do a great job of serving , sometimes single handedly. You are all awesome!

Ramone works his tail off serving drinks on the beach all day. Always with a smile! He is awesome! Thank you again Ramone for all the Ciaprinias and ice! :)

My husband and kids all loved the crazy games, dance lessons, volleyball and whatever else the Star Friends come up with. They are all awesome and they really do make the week so special.
Thank you all for making our week soooo much fun! We miss you all....Edward, German, Smilley, Nicholas, Lady Gaga, Wendy, Farone, Loius and many more!!!!! You all work countless hours and always have a smile and a hug. Thank you for everything you all do.

We watched some of the shows but sat mostly in the lobby bar after dinner. The kids all hit the disco every night and had a blast! They met people from all over the world. A special thanks to Rafeal, the security guy outside the disco. He always made sure the girls were safe , this gave us much peace of mind. no worries.

If we had any suggestion for the management, it would be that maybe instead of some of the shows (its was easy to fall asleep thru some of them, they are getting very outdated) they could have a live band and dancing with some American rock n roll, pop, type music for couples to dance to. We were usually too tired to wait to go to the disco with the kids but would have liked dancing together instead of watching the shows or sitting in the lobby bar all night.. Having some romantic, slow, pop type music for couples to dance to at night would be greatly welcomed. They had this at the Valentin Imperial Maya in the Riviera Maya and couples loved it! Please consider this :)

Thank you for a wonderful vacation. Hope to return again next year and see you all!
