Just got back from Dreams La Romana. We were there from July 11, 2014 to July 18, 2014. We checked in at the preferred club. Since arriving everyone was really friendly. We got room in the building seven, 3rd floor, with a toddler not the best thing specially carrying a stroller up and down the stairs. So we told them immediately and two days later we were changed to a first floor room in the same building. The hotel is beautiful if you want to relax or party you had the option. 3 pools, preferred pool (quiet) but had the best liquor (only for preferred guests), Main pool has kids pool and Jacuzzi (most of the shows were in the pool activities like volleyball and water polo and the bar pool. We used all three pools but spent more time in the main pool and the bar pool. We at the Japanese restaurant the service was really slow to order and get the food at one point to had to tell one of the waiters to please take our order because of the 19 months old son was hungry, we ordered and still took long. We went to the seaside grill, the food was amazing, tried to go more times but every time the line was just so long to seat in. Most of the time we ate at the World Café for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Just wished they had more variety. Some days we ate at the grill by the beach and one day we ate the BBQ party at the beach. We also tried the Oceana, the food was great too. I must say that this resort was one if not the best resort I ever been too. The Service, the Food, the rooms, everything was great. We also went to the Spa to get a massage, we loved it very relaxing. Sad I didn’t have time to go again. We visited the Saona Island, I loved it. The only thing I didn’t like it the beach there was very rocky when going in the water after that was fine. I had massage and had food there. Our 19 months old son loved it especially when they took us to the side of the beach where the water was clear and we took pictures with the starfish. We went back to land with the speed boat. That was fun my son was loving it, felt like we were in rollercoaster ride. The shows at night were sometimes done at the main pool or at the theater. I think the shows were not that great comparing with other resorts. The fun shows were the one that the guests participate. But overall, I will definitely recommend this resort to everyone. It has everything for everyone. You will not be disappointed.

Stayed at the Dreams la Romana for 2 weeks end of June. The place is beautiful and clean. From checking in to checking out everything was taken care of. The hotel surroundings and gardens are lovely. Pools and beach areas are great calm waters if you want to swim or snorkel in the sea. The staff throughout the hotel where ever you go are very friendly and helpful. There are several specialist restaurants as well as the buffet one all wonderful, the food is superb !!! plenty of choice . A big thank you to Dreams for making our stay feel important, I will definately look into staying at one of the Dreams resorts in the future.

Room Tip: I stayed in block 2000 close to main buffet and not far from lobby area there are only 3 floors. If...

Went to Dreams La Romana mid June for 1 week. This is a big resort but split into lots of blocks with beautiful gardens in between so you do not feel it is so large. We were in block 7 which is by the preferred pool but were not "preferred" so spent our time in the main pool. The hotel was not full but if it was I might have considered the smaller preferred area depending on the price. There is also a private plunge pool nearby that you can rent for the day & 1 room in block 7 with it's own plunge pool.

Initially we went to the pool with the swim up bar as we felt families would use the main pool with childrens area & that is were the entertainment team operate. The swim up pool was always very busy so we moved to the main pool and as it was term time it was reasonably quiet . We were never pestered by the entertainment team. There were plenty of sun loungers but they are curved so it is really difficult to lay on your front fortunately there were about a dozen of the "preferred" loungers (brown) in one corner & these can be laid flat.

For Brits - in June as the hotel wasn't full there was NEVER a problem getting sun loungers there were always plenty free on the beach & around the main pool- so no need to get up at the crack of dawn!

The grounds were immaculate & there was an amazing amount of staff who are all very polite. Our room was a good size and very clean the fridge was stocked with cokes, water & beer and the was a hairdryer & complimentary toiletries. At the end of each accommodation block there is a manned desk with chocolates & toiletries on it & if you stop to look you will get them trying to sell you timeshare etc. And sales people do try to engage you in conversation around the Hotel but we never had a problem a polite no thanks is all that's needed so you've only yourself to blame if you end up going to a 3hr presentation for a free box of chocs.

There is a stand by the main pool selling diving & another selling beauty treatments & lobster meals. They had a deal - 2 beach side massages for US$60 it was amazing value & we did this twice- I would recommend this even at the full price.

We went snorkelling off the beach but the water was mostly cloudy although we did see a few fish & starfish.

There is a daily newsletter detailing the entertainment program & which restaurants are open or closed so be aware if there is a particular one you want to go asap.

Now I like all kinds of food I love eating in a Burger King almost as much as Gordon Ramsays at Claridges but the food was such a disappointment. They really do try hard & there are lots of different restaurants- Portofino Italian one had a 2 hour wait one night(!)- but the quality of the meat at all the restaurants is very poor. We ate several times in the Bordeaux French restaurant - lovely soup & the beef tenderloin was just passable but sinewy, the lamb chops were tough as boots. In the world buffet the Chilli was just gristle & the Caesar salad was covered in a sugary dressing. We ate in the Oriental restaurant & the tempura starters & dumpling were delicious but my main was Thai green curry fish & although cooked the white fish tasted slimy! The Pizza hut by the main pool was ok although the cheese was a little sour tasting.
The best meal we had was on Sunday lunch on the beach when they had fresh cooked fish & salad. The coffee shop was very cool & had lovely coffee, good wifi reception (chargeable) but the rolls & pastries were rather bland. We did find things to eat but it was not great. If you are in anyway a foodie this hotel is not for you.

I will not return partially because of the food & because there are so many other places in the world to visit but also because my flights from Gatwick to Punta Cana both ways with BA were so terrible & I will now avoid any resort were BA is my only flight option.

Room Tip: Block 5 & 7 are a bit away from the main area & have nicer décor.

Single mom of 9 year old daughter and 14 year old son went for Spring break in April. We opted for this resort over the more mainstream ones in Punta Cana for a more relaxed, authentic Dominican Republic experience. It fit the bill – my kids felt immersed in a different culture and even though the staff spoke excellent English, were motivated to attempt to speak Spanish to the staff. Some of the Americans felt frustrated by the lack of clear, centralized communication but seasoned travellers or those wanting to experience a new culture will appreciate the low-key, relaxed feel.

The resort and grounds: Utterly beautiful, immaculate and well-designed. It sits right on the ocean with palm trees and calm turquoise water that is great for snorkeling and swimming. There is a main large pool and an infinity swim-up pool. Beautiful grounds and layout. The resort is adjacent to a local seaside village for those wanting to experience local life and shop at beach market stalls. Security is very tight and I felt safe at all times. We opted not to do Preferred upgrade and I am glad we did not. The area was out of the way and the pool was average. The only reason would be for couples who want to stay away from kids.

The Staff: The staff was lovely and friendly and particularly nice to my kids. And can they dance! The male staff was amazing with my teen son and his friends – they were cool and fun and had quite the following.

The Guests: A nice friendly group of couples and families and older people. Not too many young adults or rowdy folk here. Met several nice families who took me in even though I was single.

Activities/entertainment: Lots of offerings available in a low-key way. I took yoga and salsa dance lessons on the beach, and aquatic fitness classes in the water. Played bocce ball and pool games with my kids. All were well-run and enjoyable. My daughter and I had an exquisite spa --grounds and services are great. We used the wonderful GriGri Dive Shop on the beach regularly for parasailing, kayaks, snorkeling and Scuba Do. The Scuba Do is an underwater vespa-type machine that allows you to submerge in the water and see the sealife if you don’t dive. Also enjoyed the nightlife entertainment --magicians, dancers, circus. Very good for all ages.

Childrens/Teen Programs: The teen center was a highlight. Kids could hang, play pool, basketball, ping pong, video games and it was a great central meeting place for them behind the main pool. My kids found lots of friends to hang with and because it was All Inclusive, they could grab burgers by the pool (they did an afternoon grill), order virgin frozen fruit drinks at the swim-up pool and otherwise feel very independent. They loved it and I loved the fact that I could have some free time. The younger kid center was disappointing and really needs to be managed better. My 9 year old did not want to go there and we had some unfavorable interactions with the staff, who seemed bored and checked out. Definitely could use improvement. The teen center and nature of the resort worked out for her, however, as she met lots of great kids. Younger kids probably fare better.

Food: The good news is that there are many restaurant selections offering beautiful décor and ambience. The ones facing the beach that offer open air dining were heavenly. The bad news is that other than the special cooked-to-order special offerings , the food was disappointing. Other than the Mexican restaurant, and the main dining room that cooked to order, there were many so-so meals. The main dining room offered a wide array of offerings to please all palettes and is a good safety when needed.
