Reviewed January 14, 2014

This is the first time at Dreams La Romana and I can asure you that I will come again. The food is good and the staff is even better. Omenga was one of the entertainment staff members that made everyone feel at home. He is the type of person that would made you look alive even when your sleeping. He and everyone here have been great. The resort is top notch. 5 out of 5 in my books.

We just returned from Dreams La Romana and loved every minute of it! We stayed in the preferred club building 5. I'll break down my review by some categories.

Room: very comfortable beds and pillows. Didn't stay in there long as we were at the beach/pool all day and at dinner/show by night. They decorated the room when we got there with balloons and flower petals. Nice touch. VERY CLEAN!! The maids cleaned twice a day and we are messy and they made our room clean everytime. Maritza was our maid and she was awesome!!

Beach - beautiful!! Blue and sand was awesome. Beach is private. This is not a place that is resort after resort. There are no other resorts near by so you don't have to worry about vendors or strangers walking along the beach. Very safe and either fun or quiet depending on where you sit and time of day. Not much fish that we could find so if your looking for snorkeling you will have to swim way out or take a trip to Punta Cana on an excursion which is what we did. Had the most gorgeous sun sets!! Never had a problem getting a chaise lounger. Plenty for everyone!!

People - Awesome!! They made the trip they were so friendly!! Our favorites were James Brown in the Core Zone. He was very helpful and always willing to pitch to our daughter who is a softball player. Also Carlos Gil our bartender was awesome!! Very friendly and made it special for all of us!!

Food - Food was good but do not come here looking for five star. All food was good and we did not get sick. Good presentation but these are domincans trying to make french, italian etc. type of food. We liked the beef, and chicken better than the seafood which was unusual for being at the beach. lol My husband treated me to a romantic dinner, just us two on the pier. Our waiter was awesome, but I can't remember his name :( All the staff is super friendly, accomodating and just plain happy. I was totally impressed with them. Dont; get me wrong food is GOOD but not GREAT. Our best food was at the Asian, French and Dominican restaurants. Dont have to make reservations anywhere or wear wristbands. LaPost our waiter in the french restaurant was awesome!!

Excursions - we took the Sanoa Island excursion and the Bavaro Splash excursion both booked with Amstar. Amstar was great to work with. Sanoa Island was fun!! Basically a party boat (catamaran) for a 1 1/2 hour ride to the island. Lots of rum and coke and dancing. We had a blast and traveled with a 20 year old daughter who loved it as well. When we got there the island was BEAUTIFUL!! Daughter played volleyball, we relaxed. They had a dominican BBQ and it was good. Water although beautiful had lots of coral and it kinda hurt. lol no big problems but hard to walk in.
The excursion to Punta Cana (Bavaro Splash) was fun. We did have to take an hour bus ride there which was not fun but it was worth it. our excursion included riding speed boats, snuba (not to be confused with Scuba) and snorkeling. Speed boats for fun!! wish the ride would have been longer but lots to fit in in about 3 1/2 hours on the beach. Punta Cana beach is beautiful.

SPA - my husband did three masages and me and daughter did one each. Daughter and I did the massage at the beach. (preferred area) It was awesome!! So relaxing!! I almost cried with how beautiful it was!! lol I would highly recommend it!!

Overall - we loved every minute!! Favorite things were sunsets, beach, pools, excursions and expecially the PEOPLE!!! Shows were entertaining. The Remember the time "broadway" production was hilarious!!

Room Tip: We had preferred building five on second floor. It was great!!

Just returned from a weeklong vacation at this beautiful resort. Greeted with a glass of champagne and a "welcome home" our trip started off great. We stayed in building 7, which is the preferred building, though we were not preferred. The room was a fairly good size, with a small balcony to sit out on. The room came stocked with a mini bar (pop, beer, water) and plenty of bathroom amenities. The room was very clean upon arrival and was clean daily to the same quality. The maids did a great job of adding little extra touches to our room throughout the week to keep the room cozy when we returned from our days at the pool/beach. No matter where you go on the resort you will always see someone cleaning something, and it pays off because the grounds are beautiful. The resort is set up nicely with plenty of things spread out so even if it is full you do not feel like every other guest is on top of you when trying to get a drink at a bar or a seat at dinner. The service here was very good overall. The bartenders were the best part of the service. Alexander and Henry at the Lobby Bar (Rendezvous) were great to our group and were fun to talk to each night. Manuel at the Pool Bar (Barracuda) was also very personable and a great staff member. Evelyn at the swim up bar made great drinks (other bartenders at this bar did not make so good of drinks, very hit or miss) and always had a smile on her face. You could tell these people enjoyed their jobs, and it made our trip better. The entertainment staff was great. The activities throughout the day were fun, but if you didn't want to do them, no problem. The pizza by the pool and the burgers on the beach were the best food we ate all week. Just awesome. We never had a bad dinner and went to all the restaurants (my favorite was the Italian, my wife's favorite was the Japanese, and the rest of our family's favorite was Oceana and Jungle. So many different favorites because they were all very good). The resort seemed pretty full but we never had to wait for a table at a dinner restaurant or at the buffet in the morning (even with a group of 7). Room service was okay; we once ordered nachos and burgers. The burgers were very good but the nachos were cold. The beach is very average. If you are looking for hour long walks on the beach, then this will not be your place. It was good for what we wanted, but we were not blown away by it. The pools were great. Plenty of seats around the main pool, but you had to get to the infinity pool early if you wanted chairs there. The Coco café was a great place for a quick cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or some snacks/desserts. The nightly entertainment was very good in general. We really enjoyed the circus show. It was like the Dreams version of a cirque du soleil and we thought it was great. We also saw the magic show and the magician was also very good. He did a bunch of classic tricks, but put his own twist on them. The 3rd show was saw was the elements show. This show was not the best. Really slow moving and we ended up leaving halfway through, which is never a problem because a bar is always only a few steps away!.
We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return. Thanks to the staff here for making our vacation memorable! If you are looking for a relaxing vacation with good food and drinks, then this is your place.

Room Tip: Buildings 5 and 7 are preferred rooms and are updated. Very nice rooms.

We stayed at Dreams for Christmas and New Year. It's definitely not 5 stars, but good, solid and very clean place. The food was good, although half of our group had some stomach issue, that can be related to anything – drinks, more fruits that usual or too much of salad or uncooked vegies. Everything from room to grounds and even beach is spotless clean and the staff is working hard to make sure that each little piece of garbage is picked up.
Rooms are dated, but clean and who stays in room while on the beach vacation?
The best thing about this resort is that there is no reservation required for restaurants. Good food there and our favourite was French. Tasty food, great presentation and amazing service. Others were nice, but a much too loud to my taste (especially the Grill). I guess this is related to the structure of buildings…
I know that Christmas is the busiest time of the year and quit few times we’ve seen the “beach chair war” when people would grab chairs (even with something on it) and drag them away. There are almost none side tables at the beach so you have to hold your drink or place it on the sand. The service on the beach is pretty good so you don’t have to wait long before your empty glass is taken away or new drink is coming. Kudos to the hard working beach cleaners and girls (especially Karina and Ana) who tirelessly walk around the beach with the smile and asking what to bring you.
Another area for improvement – the reception area. It was very hard to find table or chairs in the evening (especially weekends nights).
In summary - a pleasant stay, good service, very clean, plenty of bottled water and amazing weather.
We might return…

No problems here..
Lots of delicious restaurants (and I am picky), yummy buffet that is usually always available.
Very clean place, well kept.
Very great staff, with lots of fun daily activities, funner than they look!
Yuuuuuuummmmmy endless daily drinks.

Get out there and get those lawn chairs! High in demand, but we always found two for ourselves, even if we had to drag them together.

Nice beach, beautiful water. Nice beach walk to a small almost town... About 20 minutes to La Romana... which is a very big city. Walked for hours. Lots to see... Grabbed a cab for $60 American and he was ours for 4 hours, to leave and call when we wanted. He was also very nice (small communication problemo, but he put us on a cell phone with a translator for him), and acted as a tour guide at times, stopping to point out attractions we would have missed.

Anyways, great staff. Good things in the gift shop, it is no cheaper in town, so don't be scared to buy your gifts here.

Room Tip: Dreams rooms are always well situated.

There are some positive things to say about this resort. The pools, beach and grounds are very good and well kept. The staff work very hard to keep it clean. The food is well presented and there is a good variety.
However, our good experiences end there. The rooms, with the possible exception of the preferred club section (which we didn't see) are very dated and may been very nice many years ago. Both the standard rooms (section 3) and the "premium deluxe " rooms (section 2) leave much to be desired. They are not 5 star quality. The "premium deluxe" are about the same as the "deal of the day" except for some updated furniture and a flat panel TV and newer sink faucet.
Not worth the extra money. The rooms are kept clean but some amenities are missing--a clock and even a pen and paper. However, the worst problem, which was shared by many other guests, was diarrhea and similar maladies. I don't know the source--foods contamination or the water served at meals or the ice in the drinks. It made for a very unpleasant vacation.
I would not recommend this resort and it makes you wonder how it ever got a 5 star rating!

Room Tip: First floor rooms are better as you don't have climb the stairs. One couple on the top floor in...

Dear Susan,

Please allow me to take this opportunity to thank you for choosing Dreams La Romana as your holiday destination and we are thankful for the time you have taken to write a review of your stay with us.

It is very disappointing to us that your stay here at our wonderful resort did not meet with your expectation, we are sorry that you were not happy with your room allocation, our housekeeping team strive to keep all of our rooms to the high standard that we expect and we are often praised for the comfort and presentation of our rooms, however it is regrettable that this was not your experience, also we would like to remind any future guests that on the rare occasion that the room is not equipped with all of the amenities, if this is brought to our attention we will happily provide these items for you

We are sorry to learn that you suffered from some sickness during your vacation with us, all of the bottled water and ice in drinks is fresh purified water so it is difficult to see how this would cause any of our guests any upset, there are various reasons why people may fall poorly during a visit to another country, change in the climate, over exposure to the heat and sun, differences in the oils the food is cooked in, over indulgence of rich foods and alcohol and not enough water consumption to name a few, on behalf of everyone here at Dreams La Romana we certainly hope you are feeling better now.

We appreciate all of your feedback, we always take on board the comments left to us by our much valued guests, both positive and otherwise as this is an excellent way of making improvements in the future.

We have just returned home from Dreams La Romana yesterday & today I have just booked to return again this year for Christmas & New Year for 3 weeks. Having read previous negative reviews I feel these must have stayed at a different hotel! From the outset it is apparent that the hotel is managed by an excellent management team with exceptional employees, before traveling I had high expectations of the hotel however everything exceeded my expectations.
The food quality & variety was superb. We dined in the speciality restaurants every evening, the service was very professional. Reading previous negative reviews it makes me wonder what these people eat at home, 3 course meals with wine, coffee & brandy? rib eye steak every night?!?.
The drinks quality, cocktails & international spirit selection was superb. A big thanks to the lovely girls who waitress around the main poolside all day long, I suspect any previous complaints didn't take the time to chat with them or appreciate how hard they work. The guys at the Lobby bar, Carlos, Oscar, Jonathan, Luis (sorry if I forgot anyone) are 1st class barmen & very friendly, a big thanks to them & also all the girls that waitress in the Lobby bar who were very friendly.
Entertainment, where do we start they work so hard from morning till late night. Again a big thanks to Andy & all his team for the fantastic daytime activities & a great selection of night time shows. Please ignore any previous negative comments, all the shows we saw were fantastic & the dancers work extremely hard. A special thanks to Omega & Jeffrey for great activities around the main poolside.
Overall every member of staff was extremely professional & friendly, thank you for all your hard work for the fantastic New Year's Eve gala meal/entertainment & to ensure we had a fantastic holiday.
