This was my 13th visit to Dreams in La Romana. I started going when it was a sunscape resort so I have seen the transition. Have always been very happy with everythng about the resort. Beautiful location and outstanding staff, all levels! The new highway from Punta Cana makes this resort and even better value (45 minuet ride). If you are a spring break type of traveler this is probably not for you. If you enjoy great pools, awsome beach, comfortable rooms, lots of activities, many options of dining, then you will enjoy this resort. Most important part of the resort, its staff, especially the entertainment group. Very hard working and do all they can to make sure you enjoy your visit. Take advantage of the close location to Bayahibe. Get a feel for what the Dominican really is all about. Will be going back in April.

Room Tip: Buildings 3 and 4 are centrally located to pools and restaurants

My girlfriends and I (6 of us total) stayed from Nov 15th - 22nd celebrating our 50th. This was my third time to stay at a Dreams resort but my first time at Dreams LaRomana. Quickest and easiest check in I have ever encountered anywhere! Rooms were clean and the maintained excellent. The entertainment staff was awesome...Mr. Eddie Murphy and Picasso were absolutely delightful. Bar employees Marino (beach bar) and Manuel (pool bar) were terrific. The resort went out of it's way to make sure our birthdays were very special. A great BIG THANKS to Iris for making sure our 50th birthday celebration will never been forgotten. Beach was clean. Lots of chairs and shade. Beach waitress did an exceptional job while smiling all the time. Food was plentiful and good. Resort grounds were well maintained...beautiful. Terrific time had by all.

Room Tip: Building 4 by the pool is centrally located to everything.

Worth every penny spent!

Staff amazing, food amazing and very clean.

Entertainment sometimes a hit and miss.

Smaller than other resort but more personal.

Recommend the Mexicans resteraunt! All restraints good but this was my favourite.

Room service great, good tv channels.

The overall hotel's rating would be excellent. The food and staff were amazing. We loved all the restaurants and cafe's and the staff everywhere was pleasant and welcoming.
The water at the beach was the most beautiful water I have ever swam in. It was clean and clear - and not a single waive. The sand at the beach was also marvelous.
The only thing at the beach that upset me was the fact that there were a lot of women who tanned toppless. There were a lot of kids around and I felt a little embarrassed.
I do not think women should be allowed to take off their tops while at the family resort. Or there should be special sections of the beach dedicated for it.
We also think that entertainment could have been better. The show was not as good as it was 5 years ago when we visited this hotel.
Overall, this hotel is beautiful and I feel well rested and refreshed.
Thank you Dreams for a dream vacation!

Room Tip: Preferred Club at this hotel is not worth considering. It is located in two of the buildings and the rooms are not much different from the regular ones. In my opinion building #4 is the best building located close to everything.

The Dreams La Romana Resort & Spa in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic itself (including conference center and casino and gym and spa, etc.) is beautiful and it's situated most wonderfully at the end of a long driveway (1.25 miles / 2.25 kms) taking you trough a "jungle area" right down to the beautiful sandy white beach in a calm bay with almost no waves (great also for kids).

Here there are no other hotels around which is also why you don't have to wear a wrist band and BTW you don't have to make reservations in the many theme restaurants (French, Italian, Dominican, Seafood, Mexican, Asian) ... a BIG plus!

There's also a fantastic huge garden area with all kind of beautiful trees, palms, bushes and flowers all around the resort and the staff does a great job keeping it picture perfect every day!

The hotel pools (3 of them) are also very very nice and there's even a quieter pool in the Preferred Club area if that's what you're looking for.

The Preferred Club service and the Club itself is something you have to pay extra for, but it's worth every dime / penny giving you access to special beach area, the buffet and leisure areas in the club, etc. etc.

There is plenty of staff at the resort and most of them are doing a great job and giving it their best to assist and serve you ... always with a smile and followed by the phrases "Excellent' and "It's a pleasure"!

The all inclusive drinks are very good (the best are served by Hector at the Prefererred Club Pool Bar) and the liquors they use seem to be the real stuff and not some watered down copy!

All in all a great place to relax and enjoy the wonderful climate with an occasional rain shower ensuring that everything is green and blooming all year!

However, there still is room for some improvement in this resort.

Below I'll take you through what I personally consider being the most important parts (in random order) which, I hope, will make it easy for you to decide whether or not this beach resort is something for you.

Like I said above most parts of this resort IMHO are great and all together it absolutely deserves it's (Dominican) 5 stars rating.

However, this resort is NOT for you if you ... :

...expect something like The Savoy, The Ritz, The Waldorf Astoria, etc.

...want or need to have elevators taking you from floor to floor (even though there are only 3 floors in the 8 buildings)

...don't want to risk having to walk long distances between room to restaurant, beach, pool, etc.

...want to have properly trained professional waiters serving you in the restaurants.

...want an adults-only resort without kids

...desire to have an video-entertainment system in the room and Full HD TV-channels

...need more than 1 Mbit/s internet speed

...expect effective noise insulation between rooms and the door to the aisle (sometimes you can almost hear what people are thinking) - only in the suites you don't have this noise issue

...are non-smoker or allergic to second-hand smoke (this is smoker's "paradise" after all and smoking is allowed in many places also on the whole beach

...expect high quality nouvelle cuisine food and/or organic food (don't get me wrong food here is good and plenty, but it's not European 5 stars quality and organic is unheard of)

...if you don't like photographers working the beach with live animals (parrots, monkeys, lizards) they want you to hold and take photos that you can buy later

...if you don't like tour operators and/or time share sales people addressing you on the beach

...if you don't want occasional sales stands around the main pool area selling everything from cigars to wall filling paintings

...if you don't like a lot of sunbeds crowding the beautiful palm surrounded beach

...if you expect the resort to being eco-certified

...if you don't like that some trucks and busses obviously are not being equipped with catalytic converters making them quite smelly due to visible exhaust fumes, which is particularly annoying when you're jogging on the driveway to the resort from the main road (one of the few places you can run)

...if you expect a store where you can buy international newspapers and magazines

Dear Guest,

On behalf of all staff and management I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for posting your experience of your time here at Dreams La Romana.

We are thrilled that we met with your expectations and we appreciate your comments regarding our beautifully maintained grounds and we are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the benefits of upgrading to our preferred club.

We understand there is always room for improvement and we believe that we make improvements to our wonderful resort on a daily basis, however please allow me to clarify some points that you made within your suggestions,

*The hotel during the festive season is full capacity, this is the reason we have more sunbeds than usual on our beach area, so that we can accommodate as many guests as possible

*We offer extensive training programmes to our staff and our waiters are urged to act professional and courteous to our much values guests.

*We do allow vendors to set up stalls twice a week with the hotel grounds, we do this as a convenience to our much valued guests who wish to purchase souvenirs without leaving the hotel complex

Once again, we thank you for all your feedback, here at Dreams La Romana we take on board all comments our much valued guests leave with us positive and otherwise as it is an excellent way of making improvements in the future.

kind regards
