Our first family trip to Dreams La Romana was in October 2008. We had been to other resorts and places in the DR but nothing really made a memorable difference until we visited Dreams.

I think it was the unique and balanced combination of the locale, resort, beach, pools, staff and care that made our first stay there different and inviting enough to want to go back again and again! From the first welcoming minute we were greeted by an extraordinarily warm and efficient staff which genuinely seem to like what they do!

The resort is very clean and well kept and staff members are consistently working to keep it that way - whether sweeping, mopping, trimming trees etc., etc.. Everyone is so very pleasant and eager to accommodate and the occassional language barrier than one may encounter with the cleaning or wait staff is certainly overlooked by their attempt to understand what is being asked of them. A little innovative sign language and more often than not you will get what it is that you are asking for -- accompanied by a big smile at that! The upper staff all communicate well in English as well as several European languages. There are all sorts of activities that both children and adults can participate in which make for fun days... and then there are the trips and excursions that one can take -- at an extra cost.

If I am not mistaken there are seven restaurants for dinner (some open on alternate nights) plus the World Cafe which serves buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner on a daily basis. The food is very good and I think enough variety to satisfy different tastes. And if all you want for lunch is a quick burger, chicken, fixings you can have that right on the beach from the grill or grab a pizza at the stand by the main pool. Fruit is available right on the beach from mid-morning on. The left side of the World Cafe is even open throughtout the night in to the wee morning hours (with obviously a much more limited buffet) for those who want to grab a bite. You must stop for a hot chocolate or delicious cup of coffee at the Coco Cafe where you will also find pastries.

The nightly entertainment shows are very enjoyable and there, also, you can see the amount of care that goes in by the tireless staff which seem to work in various capacities in order to stage them. They put some really entertaining shows but never make guests feel pressured to participate -- just inviting. The casino and disco also open nightly and let;s not forget the bars & swim up bar.

We have made this an annual destination, and time permitting, we will probably make more frequent trips in the future. I think the staff there has really grasped the art of hospitality so combine that with the natural beauty of the area, the absolutely tranquil light blue-green sea, the nice premises and all it offers, and you have the perfect vacation!

I would wholeheartedly recommend this to friends and family, which I have, but please see for yourself! You will truly find the nicest group of people working together at this truly beautiful resort, waiting to make your stay a very pleasant one at a truly beautiful resort! I am very, very happy to have discovered this Caribbean gem and very much look forward to my soon and upcoming vacation there!!!! Surprise yourself and book a vacation at Dreams La Romana -- you will feel a familiar sense from the moment you walk in even if never there before!

we were overyly impressed with the resort and staff! What amazing sweet people. I am an over protective mom and We have a 4 year old son who has never had a babysitter and I was extremely nervous to leave him with anyone. After one day with the girls from the Adventure Kids Club we felt so safe and assured. They are the sweetest group of girls taking care of the kids. We wish we could have brought the girls home with us!! It is a great place for all ages. we will go back for sure! Nothing negative to say at all.

We traveled with a big group and several people were complaining about the food. It is an all inclusive resort in on an island. Not going there for the food. Always lots to eat but dont expect fine cuisine. One thing I did do was take fresh fruit to the swim up bar and had them blend that with rum instead of the pre made pina colodas. All in all GREAT!

Room Tip: We were in the 700 wing next to the preferred pool and bar, I would choose that again.

This was a very last minute holiday, and when it comes to hotel rooms, service, facilities i am a very hard person to please.
We booked this holiday on the reviews of Trip advisor 4.5 marks and positive comments, and very pleased we did, we could of easily missed this wonderful holiday due to the very few negative comments, and i would of been so disappointed. All we can say is for those that want 7/8 star hotels, go to the likes of Dubai and pay 7/8 prices for room only, this was not a cheap 1 week holiday by any means, but in relation to being the av Mr n Mrs hard working professional people it was enough to pay, and, my o my, we got the promised 4/5 star all in holiday. On arrival at the hotel we was offered an upgrade to the preferred club, at a charge,we did not upgrade but If/when we go back we will upgrade to the facilities not the room as our room was lovely ,the basic for that hotel BUT still very very nice and comfortable.
Just book it.

Room Tip: Our room was 3134 a very few steps to the infinity pool, and a partial view of the sea.

Let's start with the bad stuff -
The accommodation is on par with a travel inn, it's fairly clean and comfortable with iron, DVD, TV, Hair dryer and fridge/mini bar. It is no where near a 5 star that you would expect in the UK or US.
The food is plentiful but fairly tasteless. At the weekends there seems to be lots of local residents staying at the hotel and they tend to nick anything that isn't tied down around the pool, for example 3 times I ended up shouting at lads trying to run off with my sons Lilo.
Everyone is after your money , the hotel has stalls around the pool twice a week with people selling necklaces statues alcohol Etc , they will rip you off , they pay a commission so they charge extorcionate prices. Even the shops on the beach will rip you off trying to sell you bottles of rum for 3 times the price of the shop. If you want alcohol to take home your better off at duty free at the airport on named brands which are cheap as well as tobacco on your way home.
As others have stated the time share reps are well annoying and will hassle you to go to a meeting, tell them you have no credit cards and they should leave you alone.
I would revomend haggling for excursions , you will get them cheaper or kids free.
The good stuff - I had a wonderfully relaxing holiday , the locations really good with a lovely beach. The entertainment staff are great and if you have an problems at the hotel they do their best to sort it out. I did notice that because I walked around a lot with my son while my wife was sunning herself , the reps didn't hassle me until me and my wife were together. There's lots to do , water polo , football, movies on the beach, kids club. They have a games room with pool tables ps3 x box wii. You can get food from 6 am to 6 am and the room service is free of charge 24/7. The staff are lovely happy people and if you can forget about the western way of life for a couple of weeks and just chill out you will have a really good holiday. If you are uptight and want everything done yesterday don't go to the Dom Republic.
The trip to Saona Island was a brilliant day out, the bracelets are necklaces are fairly priced on the island so worth taking cash but don't forget to haggle .its worth having about a hundred 1 dollar bills for tips when you having meals in the evening.
Had a fantastic time probably wouldn't go back as I was dissaponted with the room, but love the Dom Republic and the friendly peole .

Prior to our first visit to Dreams La Romana we read several reviews, some good, some bad. So off we went with an open mind.
We have recently returned from our three week holiday and do wonder if some of the negative comments were talking about the same Dreams ? Our holiday from start to finish was PERFECT !!!
The transfer from Punta Cana which did take an hour and a half was an experience not to be missed. Travelling through the various towns and countryside gave us an insight into the real Dom Rep. Yes the roads were a little bumpy in places, but hey some of our roads leave a lot to be desired and we supposedly live in a civilised country.
On arrival we were met by many smiling faces offering champagne, cookies and ice cold towel, all very welcome. Check in was a doddle, plenty of staff on hand to deal with arriving guests. We decided to up-grade to The Preferred Club so were immediately taken by a Bell-Boy along with our luggage to meet the Preferred Club Concierge Team. What a delightful, efficient, beautiful team of young ladies. Thank you Glennis, Julissa, Pirosca, Romy, etc. We were offered yet another champagne whilst we were informed what privileges we were entitled to as part of the PC package, ie., the use of two private lounges and bar, all air conditioned. Continental breakfast was available here each morning if required, along with hors d'oevres and mini desserts thought the day. The bar served all the international brands of spirits, wine, cocktails, champagne, etc from 7am until 11pm. The waiters there were Febles, Erick and Eddy who couldn't do enough for you, so pleasant and ready to have a chat. The private infinity pool which included a jacuzzi was fantastic, this had its own poolside bar with waitress service offering any cocktail you could think of, champagne, spirits, etc., along with lovely refreshing fresh fruit. This bar was also open from after breakfast until 11pm. Newspaper delivered daily to your room, pillow menu, free unlimited WiFi access and use of computers in the PC lounge if needed. This is slightly more than a Yellow pool towel as some guests have hinted in their reviews. This did not make us any better than guests who chose not to up-grade but it gave us the extras that suited our requirements. We felt it money well spent.
Our room in Block 7 overlooking the infinity pool was spotlessly clean on arrival and remained that way throughout our stay. This was all thanks to our maid Ceceilia. Beds were changed daily and our 6 or 7 bath towels changed twice a day. The quality toiletries were lovely.
We ate in all the A La Carte restaurants with the exception of the Mexican and Oceana. We could not fault find with any. Our favourite was Bordeaux. An added bonus was being able to purchase wine from the wine list at very reasonable prices if you wanted a change from the acceptable house wine. We also ate in the World Cafe which really had something for everyone.
We did hear people say they were not too happy with the food, they were usually the Americans as their idea of a steak was something at least 3 inches thick. The rib-eyes weren't, but were tasty all the same. I did explained to the many delightful Americans we had the pleasure of meeting the we English went for the weather not the food, unlike they who had left very similar weather back home ? The Coco Cafe was again very good, a nice addition. The cooked breakfast at the Seaside Grill was lovely, the waiter service great. This was a good Restaurant to eat on an evening if you wanted to be in the open air.
We did not take advantage of the other two great looking pools as the PC pool was all that we needed.
We cannot comment on the Entertainment or Spa as we did not use these facilities, but other guests we spoke to who had were very complimentary.
People have mentioned the TimeShare people. Yes they were there and one did actually pass the time of day with us and mention TimeShare, but a polite "No Thank You" was all it took. We did notice a lot of Americans having breakfast with these people, but we were lead to believe that they had come on a cheap short stay package which involved a presentation, etc., and surely they understood what was involved when they booked their trip.
We really found all the members of staff we came into contact with to be so friendly. Never once did we pass anyone who ignored us. Always a word and a great big smile.
On the subject of staff this brings me to the question of Tipping ? Some people seem to think that an All Inclusive Holiday includes tips - well we don't! Think what you pay to your travel agent, and then think how little of that goes to the hotel. The average wage for a waiter is 100 US dollars per month. Half of this goes in housing, leaving very little for the rest of the month. These people rely on tips however small. We make a point of taking small notes and tip everyone, ie with each drink, each person that waits on us at meal times, chefs, maids, towel man, gardener, etc. they are all lovely people working so hard for very little reward. Anyway what else is there to spend money on?
Anyone reading this review will by now have realised that we found this hotel to be excellent. Ok not everyone will agree, but just think what you get for your money - it is a Cheap Holiday !!!
Will we go back ? We had only been home 4 days when we had visited our local Thomson shop and booked for next year. Think that says it all ! We can't wait to see the many friends we made once again. Thank you to ALL at Dreams La Romana. What a Great Team. Keep up the good work.
