The double rooms are spacious enough, and have a nice kitchenette (no microwave), the apartments are pretty good, with a decent sized bathroom (probably one of the largest on the trip) with fine hot water and pressure, there is a mini-fridge and a 4-burner (gas) that could leave you scratching your head for a day or so, also a pullout futon/sofa, a kitchen table, but best of all is the porch. We had apartment Saona 1, the three buildings are named after the nearby islands: Saona (the one in the middle), Catalina and Catalinita. The owner is a lady quite nice, but speaks no English, there is a gentleman there as well, who does however. The only drawbacks to this place are: very rough road to drive back to it, and if you miss the sign, the locals don't seem to know of the place (we stopped and asked several)-not the fault of the Villa Baya though, if you park inside the gate, it is a hassle to open and close the gate each time you come or go, and lastly, but again not the fault of the Villa Baya, is the night-time noise. Yes, a good time can be found in Bayahibe in the evening, and when the music stops, the roosters begin, they have no sense of time and care not that they don't, any little thing will set them off (such as a dog bark) and when they are not crowing there is a sort of general murmur. Do not underestimate the nuisance! We brought a sound machine for this, and it wasn't nearly enough!
Overall, a little rough around the edges, but an economical choice to be in a central location.
