“Nice place on beach and gateway to Mount Athos”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

Warm welcome is there for the traveller and good advice for questions about further travelling to Mount Athos.
The rooms are large and Sunny with a balcony and en-suite bathroom. Free wifi in the reception.
The private hotel beach and jetty are very good looking. Fine white sand is the norm but some underwater parts are stony.
The situation is excellent, being sufficiently away from the city center. However the Pelgrims office is only a few hundred meters away by a little property exit near the beach.
The icluded breakfast is OK; concentrate on olives, fresh cheese and honey... Room price good for two is about 90 €.

Stayed there for a short vacation with my family at the end of September. The weather was fine, almost perfect for that time of the year and very calm at the same time as it was the end of the season.
Ouranopolis is a holy place - it means Heavenly city and this is the entrance to Mounth Athos, the Holy Mount. This your starting point if you are male and if you want to visit some of 20 holy monasteries there. At the same time, this beautiful village is perfect location for your vacation if you want to avoid the crowded sea resorts.
The Xenia Hotel is located at the same beginning of the village, the center is about 5 min. walk. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel. There are several buildings - three large 2-storey buildings and several bungalows with 2 or 4 separate rooms. The whole ground of the hotel is totally green environment located direct near a private sandy beach. There are also lots of lizards and many beautiful palms and pomegranates trees. Rooms are large, some of the with old furnishing, some with new.
Here some disadvantages I want to mark - only 12 tv channels of which 7 Greek. Internet is available only near the reception desk as they have just one router. You have to pay 5 Euro per day or 20 Euro per week to use it. Using of the Spa center costs 10 Euro per day per room. The staff doesn't speak foreign languages at all, it is hardly to find someone speaking English or German, but the cleaning lady does! For a week I did not see someone cleaning the outdoor pool that is not heated at all and at the End of September the water was cold in there.

Room Tip: If you are lucky you will be given a room at the new buildings - clean, large and new. And the price...

I stayed here in may, and missed the place the moment I was gone. A nice spacy lobby with wifi access, and friendly people behind the desk. Restaurant right next to the pool, with a view of the sea. A spacious room, clean and up-to-date, with a balcony again with a marvellous view. The town of Ouranopolis is a 5 minutes walk away. When reading some of the negative ratings this hotel got, I couldn't escape the feeling some of the competition has been cheating, since I didn't recognize any of the complaints registered. Food was good, maybe not marvellous, but it's Ouranopolis, not San Sebastian! When staying here, do not forget to take the cruise along the shores of Mount Athos; an incredible sight. All in all, a wonderful place!

We have spent 1 week in August, 2012 in Xenia. Hotel location is perfect. The room was really good and kept clean.
From what we have seen, the food is prepared by a very young team. No surprise the taste and choice were not good. 4 star hotel should not be the place where the young people practise what they have learned in school. Even the coffee in the morning was not free of charge and all drinks offered with the meal were seriously overpriced for the quality and service.
The service at the reception was average. We were there during the fire at Mount Athos and the receptionists were more interested in how to keep the customers in the hotel in order not to lose business, than to take care that the people are safe.
The fact that there is a paid WIFI only in the lobby is a joke, especially having in mind that 50 meters from the hotel there are internet cafes.
The garden is absolutely left on it's own and is a pitty to look at it.
From our perspective the price is too high and the hotel is not more than 3 stars.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the new building. The bungalows and the old building are with too small rooms f...

I have been visiting this hotel for many years, and this means that I like it.
There are some advantages which appreciate a lot:
1. the bungalows and the two new buildings are very good, modern and comfortable. The rooms are quite spacious with small TV sets and large balconies, enjoing a very nice sea view.
2. the hotel is very quite, no traffic noise, no music noise.
3. the hotel is by the sea.Nice sandy beach, clean water, few stones in some places, few people, no noise, no boats or sea sports.
Thera are also disadvantages, which for me - but not for others- are of small importance:
1. The old building needs serious refurbishment.
2.breakfast is very basic, almost elementary.
3. The space of the restaurant is very pleasant, with an excellent sea view, but the food lacks both in quality and variety. Service is also elementary, polite but unexperienced young people.
However, three minutes walk and you can find dozens of fish taverns in the nearby village.
If you have the chance, try the "Kritikos" fish restaurant; it is a little expensive but is a first class restaurant (ask for a specially prepared for you fish soup!!!).

Room Tip: Ask for a bungalow if you can afford it.

Whatever you read in the web page of the hotel os a big lie. The rooms are worn out, the food is recycled, for dinner they serve fresh tomatoes for salad, which nobudy eats because they are not fresh and have diverting look, as the tomatoes are not consumed the same are served for breakfast, but now little boiled and bacon added, as these are not consumed again, the same are now served for dinner as a tomatoe souce for pasta and this is the case with all the food prepared( total dosaster). You are charged for everything, omyernet, beach chair set 8 Eur. The hotel is total disaater, please read tje reviews and trust them as they are completely true.

We decided to spend our summer holiday in Xenia, even that most of the reviews were bad. Hotel position is good. It is situated on the beach and just next to the village of Ouranopolis and its promenade. On the other hand it is quiet. We were lucky, because we get a renovated room. Even though we paid a family room, hotel doesn’t have it. That is the first minus! Hotel is very clean. Breakfast could be more variety, but food was very good and tasty. Opposite to other staff ladies on the reception were rude and not on service all the time. The second minus! The beach wasn’t so clean and it was untied all the time. There are too many stones in the sand and for umbrellas and sun beds we have to pay. Third minus for 4* hotel! At the end I have to say it wasn’t as bad as other people marked it. The hotel is good for families with young kids. Few people didn’t spoiled our vacation but it’s a pity that kind of people exist on such nice and holy places.

Room Tip: There are some buildings that are renovated. Furniture and bathrooms are realy nice. Also, if you ca...
