My husband and I booked a week at the Alkion 6 weeks before departure and after reading the many reviews on TripAdvisor. It was everything you all said (well the ones with the positive reviews anyway). We were picked up by the owner Yannis from the road and transported to the Alkion, it is a lovely place to stay, everyone was so friendly. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the sea and the views were gorgeous, as were the views from the pool. Our room was cleaned every other day with towel change, and bins emptied every day. I agree with other reviews that a work surface at the side of the cooking hob would have been good and there was enough room for one, but we managed ok with the table which was plenty big enough. The trip to the beach was a bit of a slog down hill, we managed to walk back up but the train is available if you need it or the minibus out of main season. The walk up to the village wasn't too bad but we do tend to do a lot of walking so for someone with mobility difficulties it would not have been easy. Nothing to do with the accommodation but I was disappointed to find that most of the eating places were along the main road so a peaceful meal was not always possible, although watching the Greek traffic and people was interesting and amusing. One place you could get away from the traffic was to the rear of the sweet coffee shop and a terrace overlooking the bay and Mount Athos (on a clear day), the food was excellent and the portions huge, although do find room for one of their desserts as they are totally excellent and the staff are lovely. Casablanca is another nice place to eat, their english breakfasts will see you going through the day to the evening and they are very friendly people. Unfortunately the time of year we went meant that a lot of the eating places were closed but the Akropolis is supposed to be good for greek nights and the restaurant in the village behind the main road is also supposed to be excellent. The Kassandra supermarket give 5% discount to Alkion guest so just show your room key and again they were very friendly and helpful. The trip to mount Athos by boat was great day out athough 104 Euro for both of us it was a full day and worth it. All in all we had a great break and met some lovely people, Margaret and Sam from south of Edinburgh, hi if you see this and lots of other friendly people. I would definately recommend this break to others.

If, like us, you're not interested in luxury but just good clean accomodation with all the basics you need to knock up a breakfast before going out for the day you'll love it here. Kettle and toaster are provided!

The setting is absolutely beautiful, we were overlooking the pool and the view over the sea to Sithonia - absolute heaven.

The rooms, pool bar area and gardens are absolutely immaculate. We had a 1 bed apt. which consisted of 2 big rooms with a little kitchenette area and a bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. All staff were very nice and friendly.

The location is down the hill from the main town area and the beach is at the bottom of the hill. It's fairly steep so wouldn't recommend it for anyone who struggles to walk but we like a challenge!!

I didn't particularly like the beach just at the bottom of the hill but walk in any direction and you come across some lovely areas of beach. The sea was beautiful and clear.

Kriopigi itself was a bit limited taverna wise but I think that the reason was that quite a few places had closed for the season. I'd thoroughly recommend the Akropolis and the Adonis to eat.

All in all we had a great holiday and I would definitely recommend it. I probably won't go back but that's only because I like to try somewhere different every year.

we stayed at the alkion from sep 10 to sep 24 09 it was great, the apartments were kept nice and clean, thankyou to yannis and family for a great relaxing holiday, we met somre great couples eg stan and wife and dave and carol of who we got on with very well ( if you read this please get in contact it will be great) one word of advice for others who want to go out to greece this time of year that is go at the beginning if sep because we only just got our trips in because the seasion was just coming to an end. the views from this hotel is great and please try the sweet coffee shop and casablancas they are very nice, if you want to have a meal with all of the greek trimmings then you must go to the Akropolis cafe-pizzeria, grill-restaurant on a sat evening, you will have to book a table ( at no cost) to enjoy live greek music, plate smashing and the best cusine in the village,
do not be afraid to explore the side streets of kriopigi as there are also gome fine tavernas to be found here

We returned to the Alkion after having a great holiday there last year. We did wonder if it had been a one off. We were chuffed to find it hadn't. The family greeted us like old friends. We had emailed and asked for the same room and got it. What service! The rooms are big and airy with towels and beds changed three times weekly. The pool bar does snacks which were good and reasonably priced. They had a BBQ on Sunday which was excellent, and a quiz afterwards which was a real laugh! Thanks Phil! The guy who ran the bar in the daytime, Yiannis, was a smashing bloke for whom nothing was too much trouble. There are a few places to visit only a short bus ride away. Afitos and Pefkohori being two of the best. Only 1.40 euro. In the village there are a few restaurants and up in the old village another two or three. The Acropolis on the main road does a greek night on Saturdays with plate smashing and greek dancing! Be warned. you need to book early as it is very popular. All in all excellent! See you again next year Alkion!

We stayed in a large 3 bed room initially on the ground floor, next to the stairway for two weeks. The complex has been refurbished in a modern and stylish manner to convey the feeling that it is low key but spacious. The rooms themselves were basic, and the bed nothing that dissimilar from most other Greek units. The air conditioning was free for August & September but we had to ask to find that out. The unit we had did not work though and was just a fan. The fixtures & fitting were also typical of most Greek accommodation, lights not working, waste fittings broken & generally in a poor state of finish. Overall I would say it is better than most apartments in Greece. We did have an issue after a week. We arrived back to find that a bag containing personal items including our toothbrushes had been emptied from into another of our bags. My Wife's shoes had been on a shelf were completely soaked and items that we did not recognise had been put into our bag. I complained to the staff & our Thomas Cook rep. but never recvd a satisfactory explanation. We were moved to another room.
We never used the pool, but it looks more than adequate and the bar is large & there are regular events held, which do go on into the night. The double glazed doors of the room seem to cut out most of the noise but be warned if you have a ground floor room by the stairs, it can be very disruptive.
Personally I found the resort mediocre for food and interest. It is very different from the islands. The beaches were very dirty with rubbish and nobody seems to take any responsibility for cleaning them. Until the end of August the majority of people staying at this and surrounding resorts are Greeks. We saw several throwing rubbish and were appalled at the way they treated this treasure. When the Greeks return to work at the end of August the majority of tourists in this area seemed to be East Europeans from Bulgaria, Romania etc. This maybe more general across Greece now, and British tourists seemed few and far between.
Kryopigi beach is peaceful if you go up to the rocks end, but it isn't anything special.
As far as food goes, we tried Anthoulas, which has pretentious aspirations. It is definitely a good standard when compared to the the rest we tried, and the wine was very good. However I found the simple food grossly overpriced, and some of the meat dishes displayed very simple cooking errors, not in keeping with the chef's self adulation of his skills. The staff were excellent and very friendly. A meal for 2 with wine was around £40.
Overall this holiday would benefit a couple or family who want a pool/barside holiday. I do declare that this wasn't our 1st choice. Not surprising therefore we would definitely not return, nor would we go to the Halkidiki peninsula again.

We picked up a late deal to the Alkion and were very pleased. My husband and I took our 25 year old son for a much needed break and shared a 3 bed studio. There was plenty of space and the studio was clean and well kept, but the self-catering facilities were rather minimal. It would have been useful to have a surface to prepare food on, and a knife that didn't just give the tomatoes a nasty bruise! We had an inland view but it was lovely - a forested hillside, with the village just visible. The complex is very pleasant, nicely laid out with a good bar and pool. The slightly unusual "gravel" finish to the pool was a little rough on the feet at first, but you get used to it! We had a couple of problems with the air conditioning and toilet and each time I went up to reception to report a problem the handyman was at the studio fixing it before I got back! Beware if you get any rain that the steps can be extremely slippery. For the only time in my life I was glad of being very overweight when I slipped on a wet step and bounced down the next 5 steps as if I was on a space hopper!

We didn't feel the need to go out anywhere as the complex is so pleasant, and were happy to relax by the pool all day with a good supply of books. It is a bit of a slog up to the village but nice to have the downhill walk back and it means that the complex is away from the main road. The village has several nice tavernas but we did something we never usually do and returned to the same one several times. The Akropolis is not fantastic in terms of atmosphere but the food is really good and the service was excellent. This must be our 8th trip to Greece and this was one of the best tavernas we have come across.

Several groups of visitors were returning customers, and I can understand why. We feel that life is too short and the world is too big to go anywhere twice, but the Alkion is one of those places that might just creep in as an exception. I don't think I'd describe it as 4 star throughout but it's a very decent 3 star and good value for money.

We stayed in a 2 bed apartment at the Alkion for 1 week. The accomodation was the best we have ever stayed in while in Greece. Very clean and comfortable with a large balcony and excellent views.
The facilities on the complex were first class, especially the pool & pool bar, made all the better by the brilliant staff who would go out of their way to help. The food served at the pool bar is of very good standard. We even asked if we could watch the Moto GP from America on the TV in the bar which was happily arranged.
The beach is an easy stroll down hill, but would advise using the train for the return trip at 1 Euro each which stops right outside the gate.
Kriopigi village is a 5-10 mins walk (up hill) and has a small amount of shops and tavernas. You must visit the 'The Sweet Coffee Shop' for an evening meal. The food is excellent and the service is 1st class. Also try the 'Acropolis'.
Would definitely go back to the Alkion!
