We managed to get a fantastic deal when we booked our Honeymoon at Hotel Achtis and we wondered what the catch was. My husband and I have at times different wishes for what a holiday destination would be and when we found this one it pleased both of us completely.
We were not disappointed. On arrival my breath was taken away by the stunning setting; we arrived at sunset just as Matt was lighting the candles and it was everything the pictures had promised.
Throughout our stay things only get better - staff are Fabulous - friendly, welcoming and entertaining. Magda and Achilles were wonderful too... Magda, simply the best!!
We cant wait to come back soon - our honeymoon could not have been any better.. simply wonderful!!

What a wonderful hotel. We were shown to our room by Magda, the owner, and were immediately impressed by the quality of the furnishings. The hotel itself is small and all the rooms have balconies facing out towards the pool. The pool is surrounded by lovely sun beds, loungers and day beds but there is also a quieter area of gardens where other beds were situated. The small bar and restaurant are situated at the one end of the pool so you can still keep an eye on the children if they dont want to eat. There is a short walk down to the main village where there are loads of good places to eat and small shops. It is quite a steep walk down to the beach area, but the steps are easy enough to negotiate. The sea is warm and clean. All the staff at the hotel are brilliant. Christina and Helena are lovely and so helpful. We were amazed at how many people return again and again when we read previous reviews, but after staying there ourselves we can understand why. We fully intend to go again. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind and we would certainly recommend this hotel.

A very good hotel and all the staff were magnificent. Bedding and towels changed daily. Wide range of bedrooms - the superior ones are very nice! We had a problem with hot water pressure which was fixed quickly and thought it a one off till we learned of 2 others with the same problem. Shame about the sunbed baggers. As I sit here now looking over the lovely pool at 7:30 there are at least a half dozen "baggers" have been out and gone back to bed. They are mostly the people who come year after year (thats a bit sad with the world such a small place!) Afitos itself is a good one week holiday but been to better 2 week locations. The beach at Afitos is crowded and theres a risk of spines in the foot if you go to the wrong place. We walked to kalithea (2K down the road) and that was a great beach. The restauraunts are average for Greece - Christos stuffed chicken however is very palatable. Overall we have enjoyed our fortnight but next year somewhere with a bit more scenery and rustic perhaps

Wow what can I say! I'm sat in the bar, by the big pool now, 10th consecutive year in Halkidiki, always welcomed warmly by the happy smiles of Magda and her family. 5 years at the Achtis and I can honestly say it is the best hotel in Greece!

The rooms are beautifully decorated (my dad jokes every year he will steal one of the gorgeous lamps haha) and the beds are very comfy. Returning here feels like paradise, and its so easy to relax and know if you need any little thing the friendly staff will do anything they can to help you.

My personal favourite is the gardens next to the swimming pool. The prettiest flowerbeds, palm trees and olive trees make the perfect setting to relax and read a book, listen to music or just sunbathe on one of the many sunbeds. I hate it when you're in a hotel and all the sunbeds are taken early in the morning but here don't worry - you'll always find a nice sun bed, your little corner of paradise for the day.

I honestly cant emphasise enough how perfect it is here. You can have a chat or a joke with anyone, in the cool bar or just relax around the huge pool or in the garden. My sister loves the breakfast - theres so much to choose from, bacon, eggs, croissants, cereal, toast, etc.

What more can I say, the Achtis really does cater for everyone, making the perfect family holiday, couples retreat, honeymoon, fun break with friends or a quiet holiday alone. Its perfect, and in a great area - a 5 minuet walk to a beautiful Greek village or a 10 minuet drive to a fun lively town. Perfect!

If I could I would bring all my family and friends here, the ones I have so far have loved it and I'm certain you would too!

Just returned from the Achtis and we had a fabulous time there. As other reviews have said, when you pull up to the hotel, it is on a run-down road, dusty, with not a lot to see, but when you step through the gates it is like a tropical oasis inside, lush with plants, filled with a variety of upmarket sun loungers and pool side beds with shades / curtains. The pool is large, the grounds are well kept, the whole place is spotless. We were greeted by Magda and shown to our room which was a good size, clean, well decorated, with a large fridge and a massive bed (much bigger than a King Size). The bathroom was also clean and modern although we did have a problem with the shower which seemed to only dispense cold water as a “shower” and warm / hot water as a “dribble” which was quite annoying. Our room was cleaned every day with new towels and sheets every day too (the maids even taking time to tidy our things away if we had been messy etc). Breakfast is plentiful, with fried eggs, sausages, bacon, cereals, meats, cheeses, bread (which you can toast) spreads, juices, tea & coffee etc. We also ate there a few times for lunch and dinner and found the food to be good value, and tasty although we did think there was a limited choice of meals (mostly salads, and a few Greek dishes such as Moussaka and Souvlaki.) We paid the 14 euros each for the BBQ night on Wednesday and there was tons of food, all different types of meat, at least 20 different vegetable/pasta/rice side dishes and it was a really lovely atmosphere. We also did the quiz night on the Friday and won a bottle of wine which was fab. The winners also get their names entered into a draw for a free holiday next year there so we’ve got our fingers crossed! The whole atmosphere of the hotel was really lovely and the people we met were friendly and relaxed.

Other than the hotel, we went into Afitos village a lot. We knew about the steep walk down thanks to previous reviews we had read but were pleasantly surprised that although steep, the walk to the village was short (only 2 minutes) and was certainly bearable. As you walk down from the hotel you come to a crossroads with a German style bar on the corner. If you turn right we ate on a restaurant on the corner there that did amazing pasta and pizza and the portions were so big they box up the leftovers for you to take back with you! However, most nights rather than turning right, we carried on past the German bar, and down towards the church and the main square where there were a good selection of restaurants and cocktail bars. Christos was lovely, serving amazing Chicken stuffed with cheese, bacon, creamy mushrooms and rice etc. We also ate in the restaurant with the waterfall inside it (can’t remember it’s name) and although the service was slow, the food was delicious and i couldn’t finish the mountain of gorgeous seafood pasta they brought me! There is a beautiful open air cocktail bar in between two buildings, with trees growing right through the middle of it with their branches acting as a roof! Happy hour there provides a range of lovely cocktails for just 4 euros each as well as live music each night.

Although Afitos had some lovely shops and places to eat, and the village was very quaint and full of locals etc, we did feel that the natural scenery of Afitos was quite lacking. The 20 minute hike down the next very steep slope to the beach was ok, but the beach wasn’t really worth it, and the hike back up the cliff in blistering heat nearly killed us. If you are looking for beautiful flora and fauna, the hotel is really the only place you are going to get it in Afitos.

We did however hire a car for 1 day through Lorna our holiday rep which cost us 70 euros (although we could have had it for 3 days for 126 euros). This allowed us to see other parts of Halkidiki which were a lot more naturally attractive = Petralona Caves (7 euros each to enter), Ancient Olynthos (3 euros each to enter – although its a long walk up a hill to the top!), a deserted beach in Hanioti (free if you can find a dirt track to turn down and park). The hire car was well worth it as we loved those other places. We also booked a trip through Lorna to Sithonia the other peninsula for 41E each. Sithonia is beautiful and we got some stunning photos from that day although there was a long time spent travelling on a coach which wasn’t very enjoyable and in hindsight we could have done that in a hire car ourselves.

Despite regular temperatures of 33 degrees, on our last day there was a tropical thunderstorm with lightning, thunder and flooding so Magda let most people stay in their rooms for 3-4 hours past checkout time for free whilst we waited for the coach.

Altogether we had a lovely holiday and thought the hotel was one of the nicest we have ever stayed in anywhere. The grounds are beautiful, the staff lovely, and if we were thinking of returning to Halkidiki we would definitely stay there again, despite the problem with the shower which was our only real niggle. As one guest put it whilst we were there, “the only real problem with the Achtis is that wherever you go in the future, you will always judge every hotel by the standards that the Achtis has set in your mind and no where you ever go will be quite as good!”
