We stayed at the Rigas Hotel for a week at the end of June.
The Hotel: Hotel is fab! Loved the carpet, fresh towels every day. Cleaner was great and attentive. bed was big and very comfortable and spare duvets in the cupboard meant that you could always adjust how much cover you wanted, which was great, they also had spare pillows in the cupboard. safe was brilliant. cupboards huge and room large and spacious, no space issues at all. Bathroom was brill as was the hair dryer. Breakfast was great, toast, nutella, tea, cereal, jam, ham, everything you could want, no complaints there at all. Pool was a great size for the amount of guests but was on the extreme cold side and as a result not many people swam in the pool all day.
Sunbeds fill up quickly so we had to put our towels down and then get our stuff or when we came back after breakfast none would be left. The view is just amazing. Completely mesmerising, I could just sit and stare at the sea and the sky all day, it was truly beautiful. Best part of the hotel by far was the view! Close to the beach, also, a steep walk down the hill, wear proper shoes! only about 5 minutes downhill, 10 minutes uphill. Only 3 food options at lunchtime at the rigas bar: pizza or salad or sandwiches. On weekends they have specials though. Can understand only having the so few options because of such low amount of guests. Having said that it's great to only be sharing a hotel/pool with max 40 people! We made a trip to the Achtis hotel to see what their pool was like wanting a good swim in a warmer pool. We are still glad we chose Rigas for the views alone and of course how close it is to the town and the beach compared to the achtis even if the pool was cold!
Beach: Sandy but rocky in parts. Beautiful clear turquoise waters. Warm and always had the sun on it, unless that pesky cloud showed up. plenty of sunbeds although we liked lying further down on the sand where there was only 1 or 2 other people. nice and peaceful and definitely not to crowded, but it was late june. Also, wear sea shoes. Alternating between the beach and pool we didnt feel like we needed to take a trip with Thomson or visit the next town over. plenty of time to relax by the beach and pool, 1 week is adequate enough.
Town: Really friendly locals, we tipped everywhere because we know the troubles greece are having, even in supermarkets. There is a supermarket just as you come out of the hotel walk up towards main road and just to the left is a little supermarket with a very sweet old man working there. All locals were really just so helpful and friendly and the town was beautiful, easy to navigate.
Food/Drink: Christos is good for service and price. Tomato and peppers, Orizontale and Eteki had great service. And the Pirate and Cod had exceptional food and plenty of variety! Shame we didnt go there twice! Everywhere we went the food was amazing, friendly service and SO SO cheap. Two starters, two mains, and drinks for the two of us only 30 euros!!! Next to the Rigas Yacht Bar there is a very friendly man running a bar, we cant remember the name, but it's got LOADS of chairs, directly under the rigas, you pass it on the way into town/the beach. Very, very cheap. Recommend. For drinks also, On the Rocks for a great cocktail. they do a great mojito.
Staff at the Hotel:The blonde girl working behind the bar was lovely. Very friendly, very helpful, hard working, nothing at all bad to say about her. She is a true asset to any employer. Natasha was lovely enough albeit we found her a little obnoxious at times. There seems to be a habit of wasps forming in the sunbed umbrellas. on the first day we reported it they helped get rid of it. the second day, the wasps were back again and Natasha's attitude was that they would keep returning so they wouldnt help us out a second time to clear the wasps nest, leaving us to do it ourselves! we didnt like this at all. yes, its not a problem you can control, but it still should be a problem you can help with.
Another issue we had when we stayed here was that there was a family with children who seemed to be friends with natasha and the kids were extremely noisy. We booked the hotel on the basis that there would be no children, so to have to listen to 3 screaming children bombing into the pool, screaming and splashing all over the guests was extremely disappointing. All the other couples seemed annoyed by these children but were too scared i presume to say anything because the family were greek and friends with the owner. So i hope for future couples' sake that there are no children staying when you are there!
