“Nice, but not so friendly...”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

When i wanted to escape from the city, i looked for a close quiet destination with a sea view, so i can stay at the balcony and gaze. From this point of view, Hotel Abatis was exactly what i needed. The room was decorated romantically and was clean enough and although the view was disturbed by another house, it was pretty. This hotel is not so near to the center of the town, the beaches and the port and it is built up on a hill. If you don' t mind the distance, it 's alright. (7-8' walk). But in spite of the fact that it's a family business, i don' t think it was so friendly... They didn' t speak to me so much, but the last night, when i paid before the check out, they were more talk able to remind me that i should have to leave before 12 p.m.
Big minus: - the lack of breakfast and the road up to the hill
Plus: - the price and the decoration

A peaceful place with a beautiful view of the aegean. Situated next to trees, close enough to the harbour and within a stone's throw from beautiful beaches. Reasonable prices and an exceptionally friendly reception!

Abatis hotel is located in Scala town near the port of Scala(10 minutes walk). It is family hotel with simple, but very nice and renovated guest rooms with kitchen corner, A/C and balcony. Our room had splendid view to the sea.
Owners were very friendly and helpful. My friend booked the hotel for us and pre-arrival corespondence was very efficient.
Very nice and sandy beach was only 10-15 minutes walking distance. Also restaurants and bars are 20 minutes walk from the hotel.
It could be a bit difficult to reach the hotel if you have a lot of suitcases or walking problems as 200meters you have to walk uphill to the main entrance. Also if you arrive in Milos port taxi should be booked in advance as there is only few in whole island and most of the times they are busy. Bus is running from Milos port to Scala, but it is 20-25 walk till the hotel uphill.
Island itself is wonderful - for families and those who are looking for quiet holidays. It is very green island even in the middle of most dry and hot season.

Room Tip: Definetely book the room with sea view!!!!!!!!

We were booked to stay here for three nights, after being assured by the hotel that it was close to the town and that it was on the level and didn't involve climbing many steps. We didn't check in because it is actually around a 15 minute walk to the sea for swimming, and is a substantial uphill walk, with a lot of steps, which has to be done in the blazing sun. The hotel may well be very nice, but the owners are less than honest when it comes to product description. If you have any difficulty with uphill walking, this hotel is best avoided. Because they lied to us, they get a 1 star rating for terrible customer service.

Have just returned from a 5 night stay at the beautiful Abatis. I stayed there last year so this is my second review. This time i was fortunate to have a room on the upper floor with a stunning view to the left towards Skala and to the right the magnificent mountains of Aegina. One could also see Aegina town and the ferries heading to and from Agistri. My bed was very comfortable and the room had air conditioning and one of those giant ceiling fans. There was a little kitchenette with pots and pans and crockery and a fridge which was useful for storing some cold drinks as it was very hot on the island! The little bathroom was clean and well maintained and the shower had a good pressure. There was plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The TV worked too.
After a long day sunbathing and exploring it was a delight to just return to my room and sit on the balcony gazing across the Aegean. Incredibly relaxing and yet mentally invigorating.
When i took the ferry to Aegina i could see my room in the hotel perched up on the hill.
I have to say that if one has any mobility issues the the hotel's locations would be unsuitable but if you are reasonably fit one can take the stairs down to the path that leads into Skala or one can take the more gentle road that also heads into Skala from what could be called the "main entrance".
In general the hotel is maintained to a very high standard and the lady manning the reception, called Constantina, was always very pleasant, friendly and polite and greeted me each morning with a smile.
Breakfast is not provided at the hotel but that is not a great problem as there are many cafes and restaurants that serve a good breakfast whether tradtionally English or Continental style. I particulary liked the Quattro Cafe past the big Blue Church on the seafront. They make a cracking pot of tea too!!!
There is a bar area at the Abatis which is rather underused and which i think could be utilised far more. This however is a little niggle compared to the praise which this hotel deserves.
Overall an excellent stay at this hidden gem.

Room Tip: Ask for a high up room with a sea view! Wonderful !!!

We stayed in the lovely Abatis Hotel in Agistri last summer for two weeks. The Abatis is a small hotel with three levels of studio-like rooms (double bed, balcony, bathroom and small kitchen) as well as larger suites. The rooms have aircon, fans and TV, and are cleaned every day and simple but comfortable. The back rooms and the rooms downstairs have larger terraces or small outdoor areas. The hotel is set slightly up from the main village, and slightly up from the road, among the pine trees, which means it is quiet and the higher up rooms have amazing views over the entire coast and sea - stunning. It has lovely terraces and areas to sit or sunbathe. Prices are very reasonable. The owners and their daughter are friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about the island and nearby islands, and when we were there there were few non-Greek visitors, which made it all feel much more authentic. Although the hotel itself has no restaurant or bar, there are various restaurants and shops nearby and some beaches, and we were able to have a swim in a nearby hotel pool as long as we had breakfast there, which suited us fine! We were picked up and dropped off near the boats. Would recommend it highly to anyone wanting a quiet, friendly, reasonable priced holiday in a hotel yet with some independence on an island far away from the other European tourists.

Room Tip: for views: top rooms; for larger terraces and outdoor areas, lower rooms.

I have come to Agistri island 3 times. The second time the hotel I was staying at ran out of space and sent me to Abatis. After a few nights there, I liked it so much that I chose to come back for the following summer for 3 months for a writer's retreat. Because my stay was to be so long, the hotel manager Dina graciously showed me every of the 30+ rooms to choose from to stay in, so I can honestly say that every room is charming and unique. The hotel is newly renovated, is always clean, has a peaceful and spacious atmosphere, nicely situated minutes from good food, beaches, and shopping, and with good views, and the staff are all very helpful, friendly, and discrete.

At the urging of my Greek friends, I checked out many hotels on both Agistri and the neighboring island of Aegina for my 3 month stay and chose Abatis because it was by far the best value for money in at least 2 of the Saronic islands. The only reason every of their 30+ rooms isn't sold out solidly months in advance is because it is tucked away in a little forest and people walking on the main road would never guess that a little path leads through the trees to reveal one of the islands biggest hotels and best kept secrets. I shouldn't tell people and have all the quiet to myself, but I love it so much and want the hotel to thrive so I can come back year after year. Get a room while you can. I have already booked mine for this summer again.

Room Tip: Don't despair if you missed out on a sea-view room. The forest view rooms have a cool breeze tha...
