The hotel is set on a hill with a good view over the town. From a distance it has a strange prison like look which belies the interior. This is due to the large windows, of which they make a feature, charging more for rooms with floor to ceiling windows.

Some people have commented that, being located out of the town is an inconvenience as it is not an easy journey on foot; it is certainly easier to travel in by car & presumably most guests will arrive by car anyway, so that should not be a problem. Parking in town seems limited.

Other comments have referred to apparent lack of staff & I can confirm this to have been so when we stayed. There was a receptionist on arrival who doubled up in the bar but was never seen again & at breakfast there was only one rather harassed waiter. Other guests had to wait quite some time when he went off to fulfil some other function. This could be due to the current financial situation in Spain for there were few other guests when we stayed.

The rooms, as noted, are large & comfortable with double wash hand basins & the toilet separated from the rest of the bathroom.

When we stayed there was a festival taking place with loud amplified music playing on the Friday night until 3am next morning & on the Saturday until 5am. Despite the hotel's distance from the town this was quite disturbing & since this is an annual occurence I would advise anyone who might arrive at festival time to go elsewhere.

Just returned after a short break with Brittany Ferries. Hotel fabulous position overlooking the town with views to the mountains. Room was great with large bathroom and was very clean, beds were very comfortable, extra soft pillows and blankets etc in top of wardrobe. The staff were friendly and helpful and extremely pleasant. The breakfast was good but was waitress service and could get busy. The dining room was excellent. Be aware the staff have very little English but do their best. I would certainly go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms have windows from floor to ceiling with views over the valley.

Having decided on a last minute short break from Brittany Ferries to celebrate my wife's birthday and our anniversary, knowing the area having stayed at the local Paradore previously I was a little disapointed not to be able to return there. I needn't have been.
Yes the hotel was quiet at this time of year with a limited number of staff but what they lacked in numbers they certainly made up for in service & friendliness.
The room was large with a view to die for over the town to the snow covered peaks beyond.
On the first night we decided to eat in the restaurant and the meal was second to none, certainly exceeding what I would expect from the grade of hotel. On our second night there was no decision but to eat there again and even better.
Oh that English hotels could match this gem.

I have always been a believer that you should never go back, as you will almost certainly be dissappointed. Not true of this hotel - once again room was wonderful, food was excellent & the views still breathtaking. The golf (arranged by the hotel) at Rasa Des Berbes - a wonderful private members course was great. Very challenging and once again everyone we met was delightful & friendly. I can't wait to go back again!!!!!!

Room Tip: Room 104 does have more of an expansive view - although all rooms look over the small town of Cangas...

After 2 nights at La Cepada, I wholly agree with the negative reviews that this hotel is substandard and grossly overpriced. The website makes it look like a true 4-star hotel and I was fooled by that and by the very positive reviews here at tripadvisor. If it were a 3-star hotel and significantly cheaper, it would be fine --- it does have spectacular views, Cangas is in a lovely town and the outdoor terrace is wonderful. The staff were kind and tried to be helpful. The problem is the price-to-quality ratio. Having lived in Spain for nearly a decade, I have stayed in plenty of great 4-star places across the country for a similar price, and have stayed in nicer 3-star ones for much less. My complaints are the same as those of other reviewers (check out the Spanish-language negative reviews if you can):
- despite it being a busy end-of-summer weekend when the hotel was full, it was sometimes impossible to find someone at reception to help you. the lobby felt vacant and deserted.
- it was extremely hot and there was no air conditioning. Since the rooms have an entire wall of glass (with a wonderful view), the sun bakes the room all day. The curtains are insufficient to keep out light/heat. It was hotter in our room than in my non-AC home in Madrid (which averages 90-95degF in summer). I realize this was unusual for the region, but a 4-star hotel can't have at least a fan?
- the bath/shower was a bit dirty, with lots of mold on the shower screen. hot water came and went during the shower. the thing on the tap that switches between bath and shower was broken.
- the pillows are hard foam, like rocks, though the bed was comfortable
- perhaps most important: the service at breakfast was unbelievably slow. it seems the hotel owners are too cheap to hire more than one waiter, so the person working -- who was very kind and was clearly working hard -- is running from table to table at a fully booked hotel. since it is not a buffet, one cannot doing anything but sit and wait until various dishes are brought. it should not take 20 minutes to get a coffee served to you at a 4-star hotel. it would be far better if it were a buffet as most 4-stars are. the quantity and quality of food was fine.

Stayed here for 3 nights while en-route from Santander to the Minho in Portugal. The hotel staff are very welcoming and friendly, but also efficient. A very little English is spoken. Really spacious, well appointed bedrooms, and comfy lounge area. Only drawback in the bedrooms is that none have balconies, just huge windows. Breakfast is very good, and includes hot fresh bread and pastries. Restaurant serves interesting and well prepared food, but is on the pricy side. The cafeteria is very basic, just sandwiches really. Lovely terrace area for drinks or snacks, with beautiful views over the town and across to the mountains. The hotel is a very short drive (2 mins) to the town. Cangas de Onis has a lovely atmosphere - yes there are plenty of tourist shops, but most of the visitors seem to be Spanish. Sadly we didn't find a good restaurant in the town - will try harder next time! Cangas is very well located for visiting the north side of the Picos and there are some fabulous walks within an hour's drive. Visit the lakes above Covadonga (the road is a bit challenging!) and try the Cares gorge walk. Even if you only get half way, the scenery is stupendous, and there's a nice little cafe right at the start, which is a welcome sight when you come down. Basic but good food. We shall be going back to this hotel in September next year.

Room Tip: All the rooms look out to the mountains so you're bound to get a good view.
