The parador is a 20 minute walk out of town (not well indicated, but go below the bridge, up and follow the road at about 45°). Building is gorgeous, Good parking.
Very kind staff at check-in and in the bar and restaurant.
Large and comforteable room, but no tea kettle that I could find (but haven't looked very hard)
Good and pretty large bathroom
had dinner, very nice quality for the price.
Bar service was good, have seen worse in other paradores,
breakfast very good

Stayed here as part of a car clubs rally tour and was very pleasantly surprised by both the service, the building itself and the food offered to such a large group. Arrived in the teeming rain but soon was enjoying a comfortable large well equipped room in the modern annex. Dinner was in a suite but by keeping it simple and regional was very good indeed. Something most restaurants should do when faced with large numbers but often don’t!

Smiling staff and a wonderful building and a good breakfast puts this Parador at a higher level than is usual.

Room Tip: Dont worry about being in the annex the rooms are modern but fine.

Classic Parador mix of old cloisterd monastery buildings with brand new accommodation blocks in th grounds.

Very atmospheric bar and central areas around cloisters with a fountain in the middle.

All modern amenities in the rooms.

Restaurant was excellent with interesting but not too recherché food so our kids were very happy with their menu.

Lovely rose garden, glass covered walkways between accommodation and old central block are like greenhouses, 35 c outside and 50 c under the glass.

Room Tip: Go got the new block for all mod cons

We have stayed in numerous Paradores in Spain and liked this one because it was a mixture of old and new. It is easy to find and the parking is good. The old part of the hotel is based around a 12th century monastery with cloisters, a church and the reception, bar and lounges are all in the old part. The extension is modern with the restaurant on the lower floor which was a shame as you can't see any views. The hotel was quiet so we were upgraded to a bigger room in the modern extension with a four poster bed and views of the Salla river and the mountains. There are walks along the river to see salmon ladders and into Cangas de Onis to see a 'Roman bridge' which isn't actually that old. The staff were friendly and the service was good. The location of this hotel is good for touring the Picos mountains,- the drive from the coast is through a deep gorge and the drive to Fuente De is stunning. The food at dinner was very good and there was a good choice of food available at breakfast.

If you have been at a Parador , this is a nice one, but it does not have the 'magic' feel of some others. Paradores are small hotels run by the government of Spain to promote tourism. This one is in Cangas de Onis.
Cangas de Onis is a small town of 6 thousand people next to the Picos de Europa National Park. The Landascape is stunning, green and rugged.... Well, it rains a lot around here and this is a National Park zone. If you like the wilderness, you should come to Asturias- the most beatiful part of Spain.
Even if you are not roman catholic by faith, don't miss the Covadonga Sactuary, up in the hills next to Cangas.

Going back to the Parador, it has an old section, a refurbished old convent, with its 1 thousand year old church, just beatifully done, where the restaurants and a few rooms are, plus a new building, which resembles a modern motel. We stayed in the old section... Rooms are large, with excellent beds, antique furniture, and a modern bath room. Everything 5 stars.
We dined at the Parador restaurant one night and were pleasantly surprisef by the quality of the food: nice fish and seafood. I had a fabada , a delicious example of local/ regional cuisine made with beans.myvwife had pinchos of cslamari and shrimp.... Delicious!
In summary, an enjoyable stay at a beatiful and remote place in Asturias, Spain.

An old property, partially built over ancient ruins which are preserved for your viewing. This is one of the reasons we stay at Paradors rather than a standard hotel. We enjoy learning about the history and culture. Travelling with my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary, places such as this add a great element to the trip.
When we visted there were only a few over guests, so it was really quiet. We were given a fantastic room with great views. The recommended a great family owned restaurant in town (el Molin de la Pedrera, along the river)…really appreciate that they gave options outside their own restaurant.

Paradors are not the place for slick, modern decor and flashy ammenities. They are understated, tasteful and nicely done. I have stayed at 9 different paradore properties across Spain and all have been positive experiences.

Room Tip: Took a drive up toward the Picos de Europa. We went up and through SANTUARIO DE COVADONGA, a really...

Magnificent setting with a view of the mountains and beside the Rio Sella. We were there for a nearby wedding, and the reception/banquet was at the Parador with wonderful local food specialties. The staff are exceptionally attentive and helpful. We were in the old part with the four-poster bed, but the bathroom, etc. was very modern. Be warned--the breakfast is delicious but expensive. Also, like many European hotels, there are no face cloths.

Room Tip: Ask for the old part.
