Nyungwe Forest Lodge

Thoroughly beautiful lodge in a stunning location in the middle of a tea plantation. Very calm and relaxing. Enjoyed their own tea. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was mostly very good. Activities accessible from Lodge included trekking chimps and canopy walk for which you need your own driver and car. Both well worth the additional cost but quite strenuous with hundreds of steps to climb on canopy trail. It was helpful to take a porter on the chimp trek. The chimp trek I found to be more difficult than trekking the gorillas in Rwanda. Room was excellent with monkeys playing in trees outside balcony.

Everything about this place is awesome. The tea strainer light fixture, the most amazing shower with a window to the forest, and the veiws of trees, trees and some tea! It was too cold to go for a swim in the pool, and I wished it hadn't been as the view from the pool was spectacular. We did a hike to the waterfalls, can make it as quick or slow as you like. The spa was fantastic,as the afternoon weather was quite rainy, we spent a lot of our time getting spa treatments. We also went to the afternoon tea tasting, was fun to try the different kinds of tea and have some pastries. The staff are lovely and very accomodating. If you love birds, monkeys and trees, this is the place for you. Try to stay at least two nights, it's worth it.

Service and location are first rate. Hiking is accessible and the hotel makes all of it easy. However there are quite a few add ons such as renting driver and car, and any beverage other than coffee and tea with your included meals. Trail fees are also pretty steep ( $60-90) for hikes.

Rooms are very comfortable and private, great bath, colubus monkeys outside the balcony and walks around the tea plantation

Room Tip: All seem to be equally well situated.

In the heart of a tea plantation at the edge of the rain forest, beautiful modern resort, with incredible attention to details, the best meals & service you will have in Rwanda.

the heated infinity pool overlooking the forest is a great addition after you have hiked for a few hours in the forest.

If you really want to find something to improve (and you need to look hard to find it) they could provide better transport services from and to Kamembe Airport and to the park entrance.

Overall, an absolute must go (and spend at least 2 nights)

Room Tip: All rooms are the same, unless you want to go for the suite. But there is no bad rooms

This is like a portion transplanted from Paradise and it is indeed a mini Paradise in Rwanda. Please, book at least 2 or more nights here if you really want to have the real feel of this place. We arrived at this property in the night and at first it felt like we were headed for the middle of no where till we finally arrived and was recieved by a brightly light Jewel in the midist of the pitch dark tea plantation next to the massive Nyungwe forest. The welcome, the care and the pumpering was soo spoiling after a long drive from Gisenyi via Kibuye. This is simply a top class property in this part of Rwanda. For the luxury traveller, this is the perfect place for you while you go chimp tracking and other activities like biding, canopy walk and the golden or black and white colobus monkeys!

Room Tip: All the rooms are carefully located at the edge of the tea plantation overlooking the massive Nyungw...

I was very much looking forward to our stay here, and it was well worth the anticipation. The lodge is situated amongst tea fields and overlooking Nyungwe hills. It is beautiful. The staff are attentive, but not intrusive. The food was excellent when ala carte. The buffets (we were there over Christmas) were not quite as good but still well beyond any other buffet we had in Rwanda. The rooms were lovely and the bathroom beautifully appointed with a tub to die for. All rooms face the forest, with staggered balconies so there is a great deal of privacy. Because they front the forest directly, they (or at least ours) was a bit dark, but well worth it for listening to birds and having a sense of being away from it all. It would be nice to have a bit more of a "view" but at the same time I really loved how well this lodge was nestled into its surroundings without feeling like it had interrupted them at all (tea instead of lawn, etc.).
The pool was lovely and led to a very relaxing hour or two just moving between the pool ledge (feeling like you're faling into the forest) and the chairs for reading. Common areas are nice and wifi worked well in rooms. Honestly, one of the most peaceful places I have stayed in some time. Our guide had arranged our chimp and colobus treks, but the hotel can do so as well if you are traveling independently. Be prepared for some steep climbs to either (though we seemed to be particularly blessed with these compared to other groups who had close, flat viewings). Keep an open mind. It is entirely worth it. The bird life is incredible, with many endemic species. The canopy walk was lovely, though definitely more of a climb down and back up than we expected by description. Staff were great. I don't think there is a "bad" room as all face forest. I wholeheartedly recommend Nyungwe Forest Lodge and would love to stay there again. Good to note that while many come to Rwanda solely for the gorillas, this region is absolutely stunning and well worth a visit of its own accord.

One of the most amazing place in any country...A tea plantation on the edge of a national park. True 5 star in any country. Feather top beds, large soaker tub and separate shower and monkey in the trees off your patio. A bit pricey, but the food is excellent and great for couples. 100% recommend.
