“A place to return to”
Reviewed August 28, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

I have felt compelled to add a review for Gite de Capulet, in spite of not having done this before. It is out third visit and we have just spent a week in Capulet and a preceding week in the studio. Previously we had stayed with friends in Tourtereaux. It has been a great fortnight and the weather has been beautiful. The gite de Capulet is all we could have hoped for and more. It is set in a beautiful garden area with private patio which we used to full advantage with dinner and breakfast taken in the tranquil surroundings. What we also loved was the garden with the reclining sun loungers where we had an afternoon snooze under the walnut tree. Although we ate a few of the figs they were not all ready but Brian and Denise where wonderful hosts and brought us melon and courgettes. Capulet was a charming and well equipped gite with a truly magnificent bed where we slept like logs! The lounge area was spacious and well furnished and the kitchen, albeit compact, had everything we needed. I am dismayed when I read reviews from other visitors and find it hard to believe that we are talking about the same place. I can only assume that the traditional style of accommodation with absolutely no MDF or Formica in sight is not everyone's cup of tea. Brian and Denise go out of their way to ensure you have a great time and this is why we have already stayed twice before and will certainly be coming again. Their attention to detail is outstanding, this is a destination not to be missed.

“Unpleasant”

It's unfortunate when you book somewhere and you're disappointed with it when you see it. Much more so when it's for your holiday rather than business. I'm often delighted with my choices, as can be seen from my reviews, and rarely give a poor review and wish I didn't have to for this place but it's just unpleasant- nothing like the description given and the photos are cleverly taken not to show the grim features. The gite is not luxurious by any stretch of the imagination. The kitchen are bathroom are dreary and dreadfully outdated. There is no room to cook a meal, no work surface, ageing utensils, and an oven that you wouldn't want to put food you eat into. The shower cubicle is small and plastic with worn out hose. It apparently isn't blocked but drains slowly- either way it means you have to make your shower a quick one or water will overspill. The bedroom doesn't have any windows- if you need cool air- temperatures were over 30- it's either keeping the outside door open while you're asleep- anyone can walk in- or put up with the noisy fan.
Brian asked how we found it and when I said that we were disappointed as it wasn't as advertised but will make the most of it he told us he didn't want us there and to find accommodation in the village- not really how you'd like to be treated. He said he'd give us a full refund including deposit, which we eventually received after a few lengthy assay-like emails from him minus one night's stay.
We spent the evening trying to find accommodation, couldn't find self-catering at such short notice, so had to bin the week's shopping and left the following morning.
A really unpleasant experience.

Management Response

Unbelievably rude guests!
They were clearly dismayed before they even reached the front door of Capulet, these guests were never going to enjoy a rural 18th century gite holiday with complementary wine, fresh cut flowers, beamed ceilings and unspoilt views, without a mini-bar or iron-press in sight.
After their introductory tour, I left them to unpack and returned to check all was well, in case their frosty response to my greeting was just a result of their long drive.
Instead, I was bombarded with ‘certainly not what we expected’, insults of the kitchen, bathroom, immense disappointment, and I immediately recognised their issues were things I could not address, since they seemed to expect a 5 star city break, Hilton, not gite type of luxury.
I generously offered a refund, which they accepted and it was in their account before mid-night, allowing them to leave/find something they did like and still enjoy a holiday in the morning. Disgusted now to read their review, which is full of inaccurate facts and nonsense, clearly written by a professional TP contributor well practised in leaving a trail of grievance with her 100 ratings showing more than 10% terrible/poorly graded trips, and prompted to turn on me because they simply couldn’t find anything that suited them.
Please just read the other reviews for some balanced opinions from genuine guests that stayed for a week or more, rather than these who stayed just 14 hours.

“Pool, bikes, sun, Eymet and unspoilt countryside”
Reviewed June 28, 2012 for a stay in June 2012

Located in farmland a couple of miles from the picturesque old town of Eymet, the gite was very adequate for our two weeks. The first night was quite cold but we asked the lady managing the gite for more bed covers, which were provided immediately. On the first two evenings we used the wood burner, there being plenty of logs available but didn't need it after that. We had had a stressful few months leading up to the holiday with one thing and another, and staying at the gite proved to be really good rest and recuperation for us both. The pool, the bikes, the sun, Eymet (including two choral concerts in the church) and the villages and unspoilt countryside round about, all combined to make it a fabulous holiday. The swimming pool was larger than that in most places we have stayed, and contained in a great setting. We enjoyed the use of the bikes provided, to ride around the quiet country lanes for maybe an hour most days. We enjoyed breakfast and some meals on the verandah. The three bottles of wine provided were a nice touch plus, having hit the right weeks, we were able to gorge ourselves on cherries from the trees in the garden!

Liked best: Location and swimming pool.
