“Peace and quiet”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

Halikounas beach is the longest stretch of sandy beach on Corfu. A protected zone, there are only two small beach bars and the Kite Surf School allowed. Parking in the dunes and you will find plenty of places that you will not be disturbed and you can totally relax. Please park by the tracks and not take the car into the dunes as we need to help keep the place as natural as possible. For the naturists, one can find at the far southern end of the beach a stretch that is often frequented by same. Also if using a hire car please check your insurance does cover you for off road/unadopted road use. A lot don't and it is an extra! All through the beach area you are driving on rough stone/sand tracks so care is needed.

“One of Corfu's unspoilt (yet accessible) beaches”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

There are still many unspoilt long sandy beaches in Corfu, but many of them are in the far south, and takes ages to get to, on less than brilliant roads - Halikounas is over 3km of sandy beach, quiet in places, slightly busier near the small cantinas with kite surfing at one end on windy days, but nothing like the busier beaches of Glyfada, Ag Gordis and Paleocastritsa. This is a conservation area with lake on one side and beach on the other, and one of Corfu's best restaurant secrets at one end ' Michalis Taverna'.

If you feel really energetic you can cross the small bridge at the southern end and walk for miles along deserted beach towards the village of St. Georges south. Halikounas is probably not for all, not lined with bars and shops but if you are looking for a wide open natural sandy beach, then it is probably for you. No bus service, but accessible for cars and bikes, and parking on the edge of the beach.

“Nothing special if you are not a kite surfer”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

Narrow beach with sand, pebbles for 10 m while getting in the water, annoying if you step barefoot, and then dark brown sand again. There is one small beach bar and very close there is the lake of Corfu which is nothing worth to see. There is usually wind and many kite surfers had really good time there.
