Bella Venezia Hotel
Ranked #1 of 11 Hotels in Corfu Town
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 5, 2010

Located in the centre of the bustling chaos of Kerkyra (Corfu Town), the Bella Venezia is an oasis of organised calm and old-world charm.

Having negotiated the town centre from every conceivable direction in search of Zambeli Street in our hired jeep, we were tired and very hot when we finally arrived for a brief (two-day) stay. Parking here is virtually impossible (in peak season at least)... so leaving it to the hotel reception to deal with was most welcome. We were greeted with a much-needed complementary drink from the comfortable bar and collapsed into the plush sofas in the lounge area.

Our room was smallish (as has been noted by other reviewers) but we were advised about this in advance and anyway, a town house hotel cannot be expected to have customised, standardised quarters. The room was spotless but we did find the beds a little on the hard side – though this is not uncommon in Greece. It was quiet and cool – the air conditioning being controlled by computer from the reception desk (impressive).

Breakfast was served in the quiet garden to the rear beneath an arbor with wisteria canopy. A great variety of comestibles was beautifully laid out in an adjacent summer house with very fresh produce – as has been mentioned by other reviewers.

The staff were charming, helpful – and characterful – throughout. We cannot recommend the Bella Venezia enough.

My husband and I spent a night at the Bella Venezia in July on our way to Lefkada. Staff at reception is very friendly. We fully concur with the previous reviews that the rooms are very clean and the beds are wonderful. We appreciated the fact that they took account of the roomtype preference (cornerroom) we mentioned upon reservation. I asked for a cornerroom so as to have more windows and more space (or so I had deducted from the floorplan one guest uploaded on this site). It can get noisy at night, so better close that window, which you will have to do anyway if you wish to turn on the airco. The rooms are indeed very small though and so is the bathroom. Breakfast is your usual pastry/yoghurt, etc affair which did not fully meet our expectations. They have a spacious courtyard but its potential is not fully used. It looks indeed a bit old fashioned and even a tiny bit rundown. But hey, this is Corfu town and it is truly the best value you can get for your money. Minutes away from the hotel is a taverna lined street: we dined at two of them, the traditional looking Greek on the corner which had tasty mussels saganaki and the one opposite, which was awful, I'm sorry to say. If you exit the hotel cross the square in front of it to go down to the mentioned taverna lined street: the first resto you come across is an Italian which looks very inspiring but was full when we wanted to try it. A few weeks later, returning from the other islands, we stayed one night at the Siorra Vittoria, which is more expensive than the Bella Venezia and has larger rooms.

Memories of our wonderful holiday in Corfu in June are already starting to fade, as winter here in New Zealand continues to drag on. We stayed at Bella Venezia for about a week based mainly on the positive reviews we had seen here on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed at all. This should be rated as a 4 star hotel, with 5 stars for the staff, especially Spiros, Marilena and Stylia all of whom added to the enjoyment of our stay. I promised Spiros I would add a review which is my first on Trip Advisor.

This hotel is well located in Old Corfu town for visting all the sites and local cafes and restaurants. We chose not to hire a car the week we stayed here (as opposed to the second week when we stayed in Agios Gordios), but rather utilise the local buses. It is about a 5 minute walk to the Blue bus stop for local buses and 10 minutes to the Green bus depot for distant buses. The green buses we used were newish air conditioned coaches with helpful staff and very reasonably priced only a few euroes or possibly more for a long journey. Having bought "Corfu car tours and walks" book by Sunflower Books before our visit which includes bus times and very good maps - we were able to incorporate several beautiful walks during our stay. Luckily for us the temperatures were not too warm during this week which was good for walking.

As has been mentioned by others the rooms are not large, but are clean and very comfortable. The breakfasts are excellent, especially by Greek standards. Would highly recommend staying here.

We booked this hotel through the Internet. Some questions we had were answered immediately by e-mail. We stayed in this downtown hotel in Corfu and the most impressive feature was the staff. From arrival to departure every person of the staff was promptly ready to help us and make our stay pleasant. Yes the rooms are not so big but this is a historical building. Yes there is difficulty to find parking, but you are in the old town. The rooms have fully working air conditioning, excellent beds and a really cooling small fridge, very helpful in the greek hot summer. The breakfast is served in a beautiful garden, but there is a charming kiosk where in case of rain you can still be served. (to us happened ). You can play open air chess if you like or have your drink or coffee or light meal by the bar. We have stayed in the past in various hotels in Corfu town and we think this must be the best.

My partner and I just returned from 4 days in Corfu Town where we stayed at the Hotel Bella Venezia. It is very conveniently located to everything (it is about 5 minutes walking from the Archeological Museum--a must see, 2 minutes to a fabulous view of the Old Fort, and 6 minutes to the Liston. The Mon Repos beach is about a 15-20 minute walk south along the sea too.) So the location is great.

The property itself was very nice--stylish and comfortable--8 foot windows in your room! The main area was welcoming and the back courtyard where breakfast is served was really quite nice (there is an indoor area where the food is, and it also serves as a back up for rainy mornings). Pictures on their website are true to form. For a Greek hotel, this was notably schmancy! And the price, similarly, was better than I could have expected for the quality of the room, the location, the staff and the food.

The breakfast was plentiful (and all the fruit was magically perfectly ripe!), warm pastries, the rare toaster and grill press, along with the ubiquitous yogurt/canned peaches/muesli/cold cuts/cheese options. All were of good quality, plentiful and varied. Most drinks other than juice (already on the buffet) were brought to you upon request. Given the truly international clientele ( greeks, french, italians, brits, a few americans), they had a good variety of teas, frappes, nescafe and espresso drinks available to please a variety of palates.

But all of this (which is very good) doesn't hold a candle to the stellar staff. Everyone from the front desk to the housekeeping staff were simple joys to deal with. Highly professional, engaging, warm and patient--these are the things that bring people back. I truly appreciated their enthusiasm, their recommendations, and their hospitality. I simply can't overstate this.

So if you intend to stay in Corfu Town (and you should for at least a day or two, even if you are the "resort" type), this is the place you should stay. I certainly wouldn't look anywhere else.

Stayed for 11 days in Oct 2009 with extended family. The location made it so easy to wander into the restaurant area of Corfu Town to try a different place every night. The staff were always friendly and accomodating. We looked forward to breakfast every morning and my attempts to speak greek to Spiros was always entertaining. If we make it back to Corfu will definately stay at the Bella Venezia

From the moment we were picked up at the Airport we knew this holiday was going in the right direction. Our flight was very late, however, the driver had returned a few times to ensure we got to the Hotel. At no extra cost.
From the moment we walked into the reception we were made to feel special. The first thing was an ice cold beer, on the house. The room was fine, overlooking the garden.
All the staff were very friendly, just like a large family.
