“Fantastic fresh food, good service”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

My friend and I found the Bougainvilea restaurant in Corfu town in the Town Hall square. We had a delightful meal there, and enjoyed it so much, we came back again 3 days later. The service was great, Victor our waiter was helpful, attentive but not intrusive. We ordered Saganaki and mushrooms starters respectively. We were also offered fresh bread and a freshly deseeded tomato, olive oil and garlic dip on the house, wish was fabulous. The saganaki was rich and delicious, and could not fault it. The mushrooms were slightly less fantastic and I would probably have the shrimp saganaki the next time. My friend ordered Lamb cutlets and they were superb, the accompanying chips were crisp, and just fantastic.
I ordered a whole grilled Dorado, wish was delicious and moist, and very fresh. The table next to us ordered Kleftiko, which looked and smelled amazing, and after asking our fellow diner, he said it was delicious. We had a bottle of wine as well, and our bill came to 60 Euros for wine, two starters and two mains. We were then offered a Limoncello on the house each as well. We worried the skate boarders on the square would be noisy, but by 8pm it had quietened down and we had a lovely dinner.
The following visit we shared a gorgeous greek salad, with generous helpings of creamy feta, and both had the lamb cutlets, which were grilled to perfection.

“Most definately the best place to eat in Corfu Town”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

We have on many occasions in this lovely restuarant and most importantly at various times throughout the year.
The food is exceptional and extremely reasonalby price. Having been in the catering business myself, it is a pleasure to find somewhere on the island that is still serving "home cooked food ". Sadly this rarity went out after the 80"s boom and in came the catering companies, in most restaurants on the island.
The setting is beautiful, undoubtably the most sort after square to dine in within the Town.
The service is excellent and this is for me the most memorable experience. No matter when or what time of the season you visit you are always greeted with a smile and, that welcome alone is worth a repeat visit. Whether it be in April when most of the other establishments are still in hibernation mode, or September when they have then had enough and want to get back to sleep this lovely restaurant always welcomes you with open arms and smily faces.
Well done to you all especially Yannis/Victor
For me there is only one disadvantage, and that is that you are not open in the winter!!!!
Thank you for trying to keep Corfu alive as far a culinary delights are concerned, After all this has been in the past one of the islands main attractions as far as tourirts were concerned!!!

“Beautiful setting but average food”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

It was our first night and the setting attracted us to this place in one of the main squares. Service good and staff were very attentive but the food was pretty bland and ordinary.

“Our favourite place to eat in Corfu Town”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

There are lots of decent restaurants in Corfu Town, but Bougainvilea tops our list for a variety of reasons. The location in Town Hall Square (just a few steps from the Catholic Cathedral) is excellent, they have lots of lovely flower baskets, and the bougainvilea was in full bloom when we were there. The people are very nice - the main waiter (Viktor) is charming, friendly and efficient, and speaks English very well (and also French and German from what we heard) and Eva, who runs the front of house and is obviously the mother of family, has a great smile. Inevitably their main business is tourists, but we were very pleased to see locals eating there including a family party of 8 covering three generations.

As for the food, the cooking here is very good indeed, whether simple or more complex. If you want a light lunch, the pasta al' oglio (cooked with oil and garlic) is thoroughly recommended. I note another contributor has commented on the quality of the souvlakia. This is a simple dish but one which is easy to get wrong - but not here. Our chicken was perfectly cooked (lightly browned on the outside and not a hint of pink on the inside, and nicely moist), and I reckon each portion must have been made of two breasts - we followed the waiter's recommendation and had it with asparagus but rice or fries would work too. For more complex cooking, my wife reckoned her shrimp saganaki was the best meal she had all week.

One final thing - Unlike most Corfu restaurants, the wine here was very good. The house pink and red are excellent, and if you like good wine it is worth having a look at the wine list which has been very carefully selected. My preference is red and they had a very good range of Greek wines made from the best "international" grape varieties such as cabernet and merlot.

“An authentic Corfu kitchen”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

This restaurant feels like a family affair in every respect and we highly recommend it.

We've visited Corfu four times and always make sure to have at least one meal here. We first stumbled across it by accident while wandering around the centre of the town. At first we thought we were in a tourist trap (there's a range of restaurants in the same plaza) but nothing could be further from the truth.

In terms of eating out in Corfu, this is as authentic as it gets. The welcome is always warm and the food tastes as if you've been invited into a local Corfiot kitchen.

Highly recommend the roast chicken with lemon and oregano. Sounds simple, and it is. Simply delicious.

We also love the way they serve draught beers in frosted glasses. Again simple, but like a China cup for tea it seems to make the beer taste even better.

We're about to embark on a 7-night cruise of the Mediterranean on November 11 from Venice and one of the reasons why we chose this particular cruise is because it includes a 6-hour daytime stop in Corfu.

Our visit will be straightforward. Taxi from the port to The Bougainvilea for lunch and back again. Meanwhile, dreaming of frosted beer glasses and oregano roasted lemon chicken.
