“Palatial splendour with magnificent views”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

The location, the views and the internal splendour of this magnificent hotel make for a memorable stay, fronted by a loyal and dedicated staff. Whilst this was our first visit, it was clear from chatting to many of the guests, that the hotel attracted many guests to return time after time. It was easy to see why.
Our rooom on the 6th floor had one of the best views I have ever had from any hotel room anywhere in the world.
Breakfast was particularly delightful, taken on the terrace with those same magnificent views, enough choice for the most fussy of breakfast eaters and attentive but quietly discreet staff efficiently maintaining the quiet and clean ambiance of the dining room and terrace.
The salt water swimming pool is superb with enough buoyancy to support even the most nervous of swimmers. I can not remember ever finding swimming so easy or pleasurable! The pool terrace was pleasingly quiet with more than enough sunbeds in the very pleasant garden surrounding the pool.
The only downside was that the evening menu did not tickle our tastebuds and we ate out each night which in Corfu Town is hardly a major problem. Similarly, whilst the evening entertainment was varied and interesting the bar prices seemed exhorbitant and therefore few visitors used it. Shame, as the entertainers deserved a better audience.
But, overall, a great place to stay and we hope to return before too long.

Room Tip: The 6th floor rooms make the most of the spectacular rooms

Corfu Palace has the best location. A beautiful view over the sea, and just 5 minutes from the town. Good service and great breakfast. The spa was a littlebit poor. Never used the casino. The room 602 is a suite, and have the best view over the pool and the sea.

Lovely room: spacious and comfortable. The sea-facing balcony was wonderful. No problems with noise.

The outside pool is very nicely set in a garden environment with lots of loungers. The inside pool is great for when the weather is bad: warmer water than outside. It was annoying that they charged you 20 euros/day if you wanted to use the sauna/steam room or hot tub in the spa area even though the pool was free for guests!

The breakfast buffet was fantastic- choice of indoor or outdoor seating, servers brought your choice of coffee to the table, lots of food including warm and cold, freshly squeezed orange juice, fruit.

Great location for exploring Corfu town on foot. Took the local bus to a nearby beach area (benitses which was totally dead in october). The hotel desk has a schedule of the local blue buses and island green buses.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this hotel for 8 days and confirm the positives in many other reviews. Staff were excellent throughout as was the food, lovely location and othjer major aspects. A tip - if you find the mattresses too firm as we did then ask for a mattress topper as it makes all the difference. We met guests who had beem coming here for 20 and 25 years so that tells you something!

Room Tip: As others have said, the higher the better

Firstly, a few words about Corfu Town itself, which is a very nice place for a middle-aged couple like us to spend a few days off season - during the prime summer months it is very hot. We went in late September and the weather was lovely - blue skies and high 20's. The town has some very attractive buildings, lots of pedestrianised shopping streets, and the council has provided plenty of town plans on the streets (ie "You Are Here"...), so it's easy to find where you want to get to. Also worth noting is that Corfu (both the town and the island) is surprisingly green - lots of trees, bushes and grass.

As for the hotel, the location is perfect - almost all the rooms have good sized balconies with table and comfortable chairs and face straight on to the beautiful blue sea, so if you want you can sit and watch the boats (big and small) go by and just chill out, and it really is just a few minutes walk to the old town.

The hotel gardens are big and well looked after, and there is a good pool with a smaller one for children, and a nice bar. Previous comments have suggested the hotel looked a bit tired, but that certainly was not our impression so I guess some updating has been done. Our room was a decent size, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was good. Very importantly, the air-conditioning was excellent so you could close the balcony door at night and reduce the risk of insect bites (note that there are a lot of mosquitos on the island so do remember to take some good insect repellent).

As for food, breakfast was outstanding and could be taken outside on the terrace or indoors in the big dining room. Fantastic fresh orange juice from the best orange juicer I have ever seen, freshly sliced oranges and grapefruit, a good hot buffet including very good bacon (not as good as British, of course, but better than most pancetta) and plenty of fresh bread and pastries.

We also had the set dinner and while not outstanding there was certainly nothing to complain about and the menu (which is displayed all day) changed daily.

We found the staff very friendly and helpful. When heading down to breakfast the chambermaids would call out "good morning" from the other end of the corridor. The reception staff were good and, as other reviewers have commented, will offer you a free drink at the bar in the garden while you wait for your room to be made up (we arrived before check-in time but did not have to wait long). Reception rang the bar to tell us when our room was ready, and had already taken our cases up to the room. Faultless.

We thoroughly enjoyed out stay and look forward to returning.

Having left a fully serviced villa within the grounds of a 4 star hotel we were extremely disapointed with what clearly falls short of its 5 stars. The hotel in its day Im sure was probably very good but I believe it is living on customers that have been going for years. The rooms are extremely dated and the bathrooms werent particularly clean. Breakfast was poor with not a great deal of choice. Having said that the location is excellent for visiting Corfu Town.

We arrived around noon and our room was not ready so we were treated to a complimentary drink in the pool bar while we waited.
The Manager hosted a cocktail party on the Tuesday evening to get to know everyone. A nice touch I thought. I took the opportunity to ask him if there would be any dancing as although there had been good Latin music on one occasion there was no room to dance. He organised a dance floor for the very next evening! Now that is service. Unfortunately there was not much room for anything fancy and also, as it was set up in an indoor airless room it was a bit too hot to do much. There is a lovely outdoor dining terrace where one evening there was a local dance troop performing. This would have been a much better venue.
The food is top class and not too much more expensive if you take advantage of the half board rate of 25 euros for 4 courses, but you must have a minimum of 3 meals. The Saturday BBQ is especially spectacular.
The rooms nearly all face the sea and the views are stunning. The pool is large though not heated and there are plenty of sun loungers and shady places.

All in all a very comfortable and enjoyable stay.

One word of caution. Don't book a car hire through the hotel. The company they use charged us a total of 174 euros for 3 days. September is treated as peak season. In Portugal this year we hired a car for 2 days for less than 60 euros by booking in advance from the UK.

Room Tip: Floor 5 had brilliant views.
