“Eat where the locals eat!”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

This is the 2nd time we have eaten here and again, totally delicious! First brought to our attention by Rick Stein on his Mediterranean cooking series. It is near the old food market, San Rocco Sq. Hunt it out and you won't be disappointed! There never used to be a menu (sadly, there is one now). Much more fun being shown into the kitchen and what is bubbling away under each pan lid! So far, we have had 2 different lots of fish, rabbit stiffado and sofrito. Absolutely the best food on the island and very reasonable. While you are there, you see people going out with take-away food in carrier bags, so it must be good if the locals eat and take out!!!!

“Excellent little gem of a restaurant”
Reviewed September 25, 2013 via mobile

A friend and I wanted to sample traditional local food at its best, and settled upon Taverna Rouvas, a small family run restaurant away from the tourist area of Corfu.

What a delight! Service was quick and efficient and we were encouraged to wander over to the kitchen to view the many, large pots of freshly prepared food. A wide choice of local specialities, each one as appealing as the others.

Good portions, perfectly cooked, with authentic flavours made for an excellent lunch. Meals are very reasonably priced, and good value for money. The taverna is frequented by locals - which is always a good sign - and prides itself on producing good quality, unpretentious food in simple surroundings.

A real find and somewhere we shall definitely visit again before we leave. Note that the taverna is open only for lunches.

“Best Greek food in Corfu”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

Everything was amazing! A must stop when in Corfu. We went there for lunch around 2pm during a weekday. It's a small place with ~20 tables. Go early because it closes at 5pm The service was great, we were served by the owner Vasili. Everything is made by the cook everyday. The greek salad was fresh and tasty, vegetable plate was fresh and very good, pastichada was made with real rooster (you don't find that often), bean plate was very good, and the best pastichio I've had. They also have retsina wine that is perfect with lunch.

Thank you so much Vasili !

“Seriously tasty, authentic Greek food in an unpreteniious setting.”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

Friends and I have eaten here twice at lunch times in the summer and on both occasions have been wowed - and totally stuffed. The restaurant is pretty basic looking and comfortable enough, don't expect frills. The best bit is being invited by the staff to go into the kitchen area and look at the food being cooked so you can make a selection, and there is loads to choose from...

The food is absolutely, completely gorgeous; full of flavour and has that taste of having been cooked for about 24 hours. Portion sizes are huge, so this year the three of us had a Greek salad (best I've ever had) with two main courses all to share, and that was more than enough.

Service is good, and the atmosphere is great; lots of locals eating in and popping in for take-out. A delivery driver comes and goes on a frequent basis, delivering Rouvas' delicious food on his scooter. You'll also see delivery men coming in with crates of cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. There is plenty of people watching to be done, too, with a busy road just outside.

It's as much of an experience as it is a place to eat great food; definitely worth a try.

“Amazing lunches”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

One of the best restaurants in Corfu, situated in the centre of town right by the produce market and only open for lunch not dinner. It was so good we ate here twice. No menu you just go up to the kitchen where all of the dishes are on display and you just chose whatever takes your fancy. The owner is really helpful and friendly, explaining what all the different dishes are. We had the best salt cod dish we have ever had here. Wonderfully cooked, tasty, traditional food, get here early, especially on a Saturday, because they also do a really popular take-away service, so if you get here too late there won't be much choice left. For delicious, unpretentious, no thrills food that's great value for money come here.
