We have just returned from spending 2 nights at the Phillipi Hotel. We had a one night stay either side of our week in Naxos.
The Phillipi Hotel do not do airport pick up. We arrived at the hotel having been dropped off at the port (no cars in the backstreets) – the hotel is relatively easy to find although with a heavy case and busy streets it was good to get to the hotel.
We were impressed with our room on the first night (Room 1) it had a small private terrace with chairs, table and umbrella overlooking the beautiful garden. The only downside was that it had an interconnecting door to the next room (the 2 rooms are I would imagine are designed for families) and although the door was locked we could hear the guy next door moving round, talking on his phone etc.
On our return to Mykonos we had Room 12, which was to the rear of the property overlooking the terrace, gardens and town of Mykonos, although we had asked for a private balcony, the only balcony we had was a couple of plastic chairs and small table set up on the walkway to our hotel. This walkway was shared with the room next door, so we had people passing by to get to and from their room. I appreciate we were only there for one night, but had specified that we wanted a private balcony and were promised one.
There is a great terrace at the hotel, but it is open to all residents so depending on who is staying depends on how quiet the terrace is.
Both rooms were furnished fairly spartanly with dark wood wardrobe, table and fridge. The air con was probably the best we have encountered in Greece, although annoyingly the electrics only worked when you were in the room (due to having to insert a key card into the slot on the wall), therefore every time you left the room the fridge went off!
Room No 1 had a great sized bathroom and good shower, the room itself was small but adequate for one night.
Room No 12 seemed a bit smaller – with hardly any room for our case at all and with a much smaller bathroom – just as well we were only staying for one night.
The location of the hotel is good. We could hear music up to at least 3 am from nearby clubs and bars, although it did not keep us awake.
Nothing is far away and it is really lovely to walk around the old backstreets.
We paid 75 euros a night to stay here and I appreciate that hotels in Mykonos are more expensive than most islands. However, although one of the cheaper hotels in Mykonos it is enough to pay for the accommodation offered. All in all I think the setting for the Phillipi is better than the rooms. The garden is fantastic and the setting convenient. However the rooms are fairly dark and sparten and although the beds are comfortable I would probably not like to stay in the rooms for longer than one or two nights.
