“Do not stay there”
Reviewed September 19, 2007

Looking at what other people wrote, opinions seem mixed, with negative reviews dominating. I agree with that. We booked our room there about a month ahead of time at the end of the high season and stayed there in mid-sept. Based on their website, it looks lovely, but in reality it is not. Hotels.com charged us $160 for a double, and they charge about 130 euros during high season. our breakfast was average and included. Location (10 min uphill from town, so quiet) and the vews of the water were great but everything else sucked. dusty, old, broken down, it does not put you in a good mood. but overprised, worst of all. it was hard to find acommodation on mykonos on the internet, but if you just walked around and asked hotels for rooms avail for the same night, the rate were 30-80 euros in cute hotel with a range of accomodations you prefer for the price. if you are willling to wing it and it is not the peak of the high season, just go there and walk around. there is also a ton of people meeting the ferry with tons of acoomodation. unless you are dying to stay in town and party it up all night long, stay in one of the beaches on the other side of the island (do not stay on paradise beach, too loud), and take a bus to town at night. this hotel is a rip off, do not stay there.

We booked through hotels.com and continued emailing Elena - one of the owners. When we arrived we were promised that a car from the hotel would be waiting for us - it wasn't. Luckily one of the other drivers was kind enough to call the hotel. When we got to the hotel it was over booked. The woman had a list of names and we were not on it. The driver and receptionist told us they could take us to another hotel the family owned. They kept saying "first class hotel". We got there (San Antonio Summerland) and it looked nice until they took us to a dungeon of a room, down a steep hill, under the swimming pool. The Summerland was way outside of town and not at all what we were promised. The hotel staff didn't seem to want to help us, it was like they succeeded at the bait and switch and knew we didn't have much in the way of options.
We read about this on the tripadvisor site, but decided to chance it. Big mistake. Very disappointed with this hotel, its staff and ammenities.

I really liked Madalena. After the initial difficulty of finding it I really had a wonderful experience. The rooms are pretty basic, mine with a mini bar that didn't work, but they stay cool when it gets hot and most have wonderful views. Bathroom facilities basic again but clean and functional, and staff are lovely. The breakfast could be improved upon, and the climb from town is a killer when it's hot, but really a great stay overall.

I loved this place!
The views were stunning, and the staff was most hospitable.
It is a trip uphill if you walk from town, but it is not that far and I'm old and gimpy.
The rooms are simple, but are very cozy as the temperature rises the room stays cool.
Bath and shower were small but functional and clean.
I loved it.

Pluses:
+ great views from most rooms so make sure you ask for a room with a view. Some rooms do not have a view at all but others are fantastic (you can take a nap looking at sunset colors through your bedroom window)
+ good location (transportation on the island is a problem especially at night where it is impossible to find a taxi)
+ free mini-van transportation to/from airport. You must explicitly ask for this. The reception will not inform you about it on their own

Minuses:
+ a bit of an uphill return from the city (the downhill is ok)
+ forget the pool – hit the Mykonos beaches instead
+ rooms are very basic. Mykonos is not for staying in your room so … get out and have fun in the city & beaches
+ ask for anything additional at the reception – they will not provide it on their own, but they do respond positively to additional requests

If you are on Mykonos time (party, beach, hanging out in the city), then this hotel is great as it provides the basic necessities to your trip. If you are looking for a more luxurious accommodation, then this hotel is not for you.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 days; the booking was done through Santorini Mykonos website (who claims it is a travel agent)
The booking was done in May from Australia through this site and paid for three days accommodation. When we arrived at the Hotel we were thoroughly disappointed in Australia this kind of hotel would never get any star rating. We checked in we were told that we have pre paid in full and that we would be charged for only for the extras which is fair enough. But when we checked out the receptionist said there won't be any extras that we had to pay. But the receptionist asked me to sign a credit card slip saying that they don't have any signed documents for the payment we have already mage through the agent Santorini-Mykonos website. But when we came to Australia there was another charge on my credit card in addition to the charge made in May 2006. I am still in the process of disputing the transaction. Travellers, beware not to pay for this hotel never in advance and if you paid in advance never site your credit card and never ever sigh any documents as THEY ARE THE NUMBER ONE CHEATS IN GREECE.

I booked this hotel during the high season when options where low and prices were high. When we arrived, the room was marginal. There was no safe for my camera, money... and the lock on the door could have been picked with a paper clip. The A/C did not work well. The room was old. We immediately went to the front desk to tell her we wanted to cancel but was charged the first night. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. We ended up going to one of the south beach hotels (Hotel Zypherous) and had a great time.
