“Great location, fantastic staff but let down by tired bedrooms”
Reviewed June 11, 2011

This hotel oozes luxury and charm in its public spaces; it has a gorgeous terrace with amazing views over the town and sunset, stylish restaurant area, and even its own windmill. We were greeted with a glass of champagne on arrival while the friendly and efficient staff took our bags to our room. The super convenient location can't be beaten, just above the old port (passenger ferries to nearby islands and Rafina), 5 minutes walk into the old town but away from the noise and crowds. If the whole hotel reached the standard of its public rooms, I would recommend without hesitation, Unfortunately the room we stayed in, whilst a good size, was tired and basic in comparison with other 4 star hotels I have stayed in on Mykonos. It's also true that some of the rooms have a panoramic view of the port car park in the foreground, although you can still see the sea beyond. If you are thinking of staying here (and there are many good reasons why you should), I would strongly recommend booking well in advance directly with the hotel and making sure you specifically book one of the better rooms with a view over the town not the parking. My advice to the hotel is please, please renovate all your bedrooms to chic and elegant standard which the rest of the hotel achieves - then I would be more than happy to visit again.

Room Tip: Book directly with the hotel

Having seen the number of glowing reviews for this hotel on Trip Advisor, I believe that there are only three possible explanations:

1. Reviewers were madly in love or were suffering from a sunstroke;
2. Reviewers are related to the hotel owners;
3. I stayed in a different hotel, while all the while believing I was staying at Porto Mykonos.

Let me put it simply and briefly: it is a disgrace that this hotel should be described as a Small Luxury Hotel of the World (I will be taking this matter up with them directly).

Yet, I was positively inclined to start with as (1) I was travelling to Mykonos with friends for a christening; (2) the website had really looked great!; (3) I needed a good break and a weekend in Mykonos was just what the doctor ordered.

A coupe of positives to start with:

- Location: for anyone wanting to stay within walking distance of Mykonos Town, while also not being in the middle of it all, this is ideal;
- Service / staff: all of them were extremly kind and helpful (although I got the impression that morale must be very low, because of owners' behaviour);
- our reception (with a glass of champagne);
- atmoshere in area just near the reception and lobby.

And that's about it. So here goes:

- Bedrooms: We were given Room 116, which was small, smelly (rust) and noisy (literally, on the road). The bathroom was tiny. The shower would look bad in a room to let, let alone in a 4star hotel - having a shower meant that the bathroom was transformed into the Aegean Sea. Bathroom door opened magically when not locked (it's a good thing we were a couple!). The balcony doors and main entrance door made constant noise when windy - which, Mykonos being the "island of the winds" is, like, most of the time. Half of the light bulbs were not working. Torn towels and bedding. All in all, the bedroom had an unkempt look and feel about it.
- Breakfast: quality of most of the food was absolutely horrible... Where on earth do they get those sausages from. While there was a sign advertising their home-made pie, I never got to see it (let alone taste it), as they had always run out of it by the time I reached breakfast (I would not call 9 am early, especially as breakfast time was until 12 pm).
- We were actually charged for a bottle of water we drunk, which was on the bedroom's table (NOT the mino-bar). Leaving aside the fact that there was no notice anywhere that this was extra, even the worst room to let, on the most isolated Greek island has a complimentary bottle of water.

Mykonos is a wonderful island, with loads of great hotels to stay at. There is NO reason in the world for anyone to stay at this dreadful hotel.

This hotel is in a great location within close walking distance of the port and Mykonos town. When we arrived, we were immediately made comfortable by the staff who took our luggage, escorted us to the porch (which has a fantastic view) and gave us champagne. We were offered our choice of a room with sea view or a suite with garden view- both were very nice. The staff was extremely helpful in making recommendations of places to go for dinner and potential excursions for us. And the buffet breakfast in the morning was delicious and had a wide variety of choices. The pool is great and has a lovely view of the sea. We were supposed to stay three nights at this hotel, but on our second day we were approached by a member of the staff and offered an upgrade at no additional price to one of their sister properties, Bill and Coo. Both hotels were superb, I highly recommend either one.

Mykonos was our second destination during our tour in Cyclades islands, after the really harmfull experience we had in Santorini.
Porto Mykonos is a hotel which meet all the expectations of an SLH hotel. Very friendly and kind staff, very good service, very nice and comfortable rooms and a great breakfast.They made us to forget our previous bad experience we had in Santorini (Villa Ivi).
We were delighted of the hotel's services and the staff people who were always willing and helpfull!!
The rooms are very nice and convenient and with a little more effort could be excellent.

This was our second visit in eight months..and it was every bit as good as we remembered.The hotel has stunning views of the Port,especially from our room which is on the town side of the complex.The other guests were well behaved,considerate and polite..a mercy..because if they are not-the hotel business is a very tough one indeed-(witness the reviews from some!!).This hotel has quiet rooms with good balconies-good linen,Fridge,TV,DVD,Air-con..the bathrooms are smallish..but if you approach the shower calmly..it is possible to have a very satisfactory wash without flooding the place (grumpy guests please note). The pool area is excellent and on several levels..the staff,all clad in white,are helpful,attentive,attractive and efficient. The hotel should be particularly proud of the very elegant Rula,who runs the reception with her excellent assistants..and the Hotel Manager..Ria..we thank for always making us so welcome

This was our fourth stay at Porto Mykonos and we wouldn't stay anywhere else. The location is perfect, the view is amazing, and all of the staff are just great and we now consider them friends. The breakfast is more than satisfying with nearly everything you could want. The pool area is perfect for relaxing. They provide free transport to and from the hotel and give you a welcome drink. Anything you want or need they are more than happy to arrange for you. We will continue to visit Mykonos and will always stay at Porto Mykonos.

This is a very picturesque hotel with lovely views and a 5-10 minute walk downhill into the town. From the moment we arrived the young and efficient staff were helpful and interested and apologetic for any problems.

The rooms look lovely and are very clean but unfortunately the beds are quite saggy and uncomfortable. There is only tranparent netting at the windows meaning the mornings are rather bright and the shutters and doors are extremely noisy when the wind blows. The bathroom was poorly designed and did not have a shower wall or curtain so the water went everywhere. There was also minimal hot water in the mornings but after several tepid showers we learnt towait till afternoon.

Due to a tour group attending breakfast from 8-9 we had to wait until after this to get a seat and the rather average breakfast buffet never seemed to recover with stocks always low. The satff also looked shell shocked from dealing with the crowds but despite this worked hard to make sure we did not feel neglected. We also ate from the limited menu one night when the walk into town on a cold windy night wasnot attractive - which proved disappointing - the chef really needs to improve to match the prices.

This hotel is definitely not 5 star and even the 4 stars is debatable. It is very pretty however and the staff we encountered made all the difference and ensured our stay was lovely.
