Have visited Lotus for years with friends, and always got the best dinner and service here. Thanks to Elsa and her 2 sons/team again this year.

Thank Carsten H

We went to Lotus based on a recommendation, and it was not wrong - this was a really lovely meal. It's tiny, wedged between 2 buildings. All tables seem to be outside, and they've put up a canopy of leaves and fairy lights - it feels magical, like the taverna has just sprung up in an alley where there's space.

The proprietor, Elsa, has a wonderfully warm hospitality, and has run Lotus for years. She's just flawless and will make your night feel as friendly and relaxed as anything.

The menu is authentic taverna food and not as touristy as other places, which works to its great advantage. Between us we had houmous & pitta (better houmous than I've ever eaten, or made, in the UK), fried Myconian sausage and lemon, a summer salad, and dolmades - cabbage leaves stuffed with minced beef, rice and herbs. I love dolmades (also come in vine leaves as finger food sometimes), and I've been surprised it's quite hard to find on Mykonos. It's a fairly simple, traditional dish but I came away with a big smile on my face because it felt homemade and authentic.

We had house wine in a 0.5l carafe for €10 - surprisingly, the only time we've seen wine carafes in our 5 days here so far. It was perfectly pleasant and felt great value on what is an expensive island.

For LGBT travellers - most of the island is friendly anyway, and Lotus is no exception. It's not a gay venue, but the barman gave us a flyer each to one if the club nights, and one of the many free gay guides to the island - just a listing of some of the bars, restaurants and clubs. It wasn't needed - after a week we knew them all already - but the fact they did it is a nice gesture anyway.

We ate here twice on our recent trip. This is a great place for eating and people watching at the same time as the restaurant is situated on one of the main streets. The food is delicious and the hospitality warm and friendly. The menu is varied and suits all tastes. Great value for money. Highly recommended.
