“Excellent Hotel. IGNORE ALL NEGATIVE REVIEWS!”
Reviewed August 22, 2009

Reading some of the reviews on this website, anyone would think that this hotel was comparable to Baghram Airbase! However, clearly people have no idea what they have actually booked before they go!

I see so many people commenting on the fact that the hotel is 4 star but in their opinion isn't because of things like decor. Hotels aren't rated on decor, they're rated on facilities (gym, sauna, parking etc). All the rooms have recently been renovated to a very high and modern standard and cannot be complained about. So many people have said "This is not a platinum hotel". The Thomson brochure clearly says that they affordable 4 and 5 star hotels, so you're not going to get the Ritz or The Savoy! Platinum is part of the service you recieve, ie the extra luggage allowance and priority drop offs from the airport etc. As for the 4 star standard, this is where people really show how not-so-well travelled they really are, they should know that the star rating is different in each country, so you won't get the same standard as you would in the UK or anywhere else... I would go as far as saying that the European 4star exceeds that of the UK anyway.

Prices... Yes, you will pay a bit more. What do you expect? It's always more expensive in the hotel than out on the beach, but you have nice surroundings, security, good entertainment, reasonable happy hours, good service and not too far to head back to your room!

Food... Great selection and great standard! It's always difficult to ensure consistent quality when cooking batches of buffet style food, but the Guayarmina Princess have nailed it and got it perfectly!

Staff... Great staff. Cleaners are EVERYWHERE all the time!! The place is probably cleaner than most UK hospitals. Reception are very friendly and accomodating. I seen a few people on here say they were rude, chances are you were rude to them first? I always found them very friendly and only too happy to help! Especially Sofia and Angela! Thomson reps really know their stuff, very knowledgable and were always on hand if you needed them! Amy and Stewart spent loads of time helping us plan out all the different places around the Island that we wanted to see and told us all about their favourite places to go on their days off! You can really tell that they have done their homework and know what they're talking about, nothing gets past these guys!

Overall... A great holiday, can't wait to return again in the Winter!! Ignore the wingers, they really don't know what they are talking about!!

We arrived at the hotel at 10.15pm on the 31 July. On entering the hotel we (4 adults) were very impressed. On checking in we were told that the restaurant would be open for our party and others arriving also where a cold buffet had been prepared. It was very nice and welcoming. Our room was on the 4th floor at the end of a corridor. The room was very clean and comfortable but on settling down to sleep there was a quite a noise that we found may have been from the air conditioning unit of the next hotel down. I did however get used to it over the 10 days that we were there. The tv had various programmes including BBC 1, ITV, Channels 4 and 5, Sky Sports and BBC World News. Emmerdale and Corrie fans could keep up with their programmes. Breakfast and Evening meal was buffet style and was we all thought excellent. The pool area was very nice but there was not as usual enough parassols. People had put towels on sun beds as early as 3 a.m which is just selfish. There is a very nice sun terrace which has an awning running down the centre of it and we managed to get our sun/shade in this area. It was up a number of steps though and away from the pool. It was nice for reading and quiet relaxing times though. We stayed for the entertainment at the hotel only 1 night as the drink was expensive. They did have "Happy Hour". It was very nice to hear the piano music from the bar. Staff were efficient and it was nice to have the meet and greet system and to be shown to a table. The maids were polite and efficient. I loved the fact also that it was near to the promenade and although the hotel was situated on a bank it was not too steep. During the day and up til 9.00pm a lift operates to take people down to the promenade. I would have no hesitation to recommend this hotel to anyone and would go back without hesitation.

PLEASE IGNORE PREVIOUS COMMENTS...I have just returned from a weeks holiday in this hotel with my wife and son. This was the first holiday for many years when I really didn't want to come home! This is one of Thomson's Premier hotels and I can see why. The hotel is very clean and the food is good with a variety of different items each evening. Plenty of entertainment in the evenings, if that's your sort of thing, and hotel run kids events (this is probably the only thing that lets it down - would be better if it had a Thomson ran kids club) The rooms are good with all of the relevant facilities, access to the 3 pools is also good. Word of warning... need to get up early to get sun loungers but then again... where can you go where you don't have to do that. Ideal loaction right on the sea front next to the bars/restaurants and beach. People within the hotel were very helpful and always friendly. Looking forward to going again only for much longer. Would recommend to anyone... in fact I have done already :-)

Positives - very clean, including the area, beach is lovely and the hotel is certainly handy. The food was varied and of good quality. The downside is the cost of drinks drives you out of the hotel to the local beach bars which are very keenly priced. The pools are warm but tiny (the picture is so misleading its untrue) and you have to be up at the crack of dawn to secure a pool side sun bed. The worst part is the kids club - I have read a few reviews about security - they were been kind, there is no security and they do not engage with the kids at all - Free play means they just sit there and watch them wander around. We checked on them to find no drinks, so we took them drinks to find it was now been used for paint brushes. I would not use this hotel again.

I stayed here for two weeks with my wife in June, 2009, on a Thomson Holiday. This is one of Thomson’s Premier hotels and I can appreciate why. The hotel has five key plus points which together contribute to a great holiday.

Firstly, the rooms. I had emailed ahead to request a room in the main hotel block on the second floor or above (to avoid the noise and hustle and bustle of being near the reception floor). In the event we got the 4th floor (the top) and got great views from our balcony and peace and quiet. All rooms in the main hotel block get a view of the sea but the western side is definitely the best. Beware of the rooms on the lower floors – some of which are at ground or almost subterranean level. The rooms are well furnished, clean and come with a fridge (small and costly to hire) and TV which carries most of the UK terrestrial channels.

Secondly, the food. Brilliant. Very wide choice at the buffet designed to cater for most tastes including those guests who have problems with “foreign” food. Choice of two meats from the carvery at dinner, as well as freshly cooked local fish. Difficult to become bored with the food.

Thirdly, the entertainment. Extremely good nightly entertainment with professional artistes (not the holiday reps) providing quality acts. “The Three Tenors” were particularly memorable.

Fourthly, the staff. Pleasant, courteous and always willing to assist.

Fifthly, the location. Right on the beachfront at Playa Fanabe with the hotel’s own lifts taking you down from the hotel grounds to the seafront promenade. One drawback however was that the lifts (and the hotel rear access) closed at 21:00 requiring the walk up the short hill to the hotel’s front entrance. No great distance but a real bind for us pensioners in that heat (24 degrees late evening)

Generally, I can say that this is a pretty good four star hotel. Of course with the state of Sterling just now prices are quite high and within the hotel drinks were certainly not cheap (about £2 for coffee and £3 for a pint). Having said that, there were many bars outside the hotel willing to sell you a pint for just over a pound. There are plenty of sun-beds and enough umbrellas around the pool but as ever, you need to get out there by about 09:00 if you have a favourite spot.

This is the fifth four star hotel we have tried in Playa Las Americas and is probably the best so far.

Had a great time. We were a bit worried after reading reviews but this was in vain. We had a great room which had been refurbished and had a lovely sea view.
The food was very good, it was buffet style but every evening there were three dishes cooked to order. There was always a roast, a grilled fish and another grilled item apart from the massive choice on the buffet.
Unfortunately a number of people felt the need to put towels on sunbeds very early, but there is a sun terrace hidden away which was very good.
Happy hour at the bar was 3-4pm and then the piano bar has a happy hour from 7-8pm. We found this great before dinner.
The hotel is well situated for walking in the evening and finding various bars - do enjoy!
