“Nice hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012

Nice hotel some points to note:
Nice pool area but tricky getting a sunbed in the right area unless you get one early.
Good location, about 5 min walk to beach and supermarket.
Rooms cleaned daily.
fridge and tv in room.
Large beer is just under 3. Restaurants on the beach usually do large beers for 1.
We only had breakfast in hotel. Good usual choice incl fried breakfast

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2012

Me and my partner stayed at Fanabe Costa Sur for a week in September on a half-board, low budget.

Hotel basics:

Food:
5/5*
Food was fantastic! There is a very large buffet with all types of different foods to suit even the fussiest of eaters! The cooks constantly refresh the food trays and freshly cook meats, eggs and fish to suit you (even an omlette and fried eggs for breakfast!) The menu changed every night, from classic Spanish dishes (e.g. Paella) to game (Rabbit) and there was always a very big selection of vegetarian foods! If you're travelling half or full-board or you're on a tight budget, I would highly recommend Funabe for it's food! Most definitely its best asset!

Location:
4/5
There is a hill to the beach, and it takes ten minutes to walk. However, I've noticed on the reviews that some people are complaining about a 'hill'. Although this hill is unsuitable to those who are disabled, you would have to be very unfit to be out of breath from walking it - even in the hot sun. It's a very small but elongated slope; although I would wear some good shoes with grips as me and my partner near-slipped several times in our flip-flops due to the tiling!

There is a Hiper-Dino directly across the road (a supermarket), and a small shopping centre with a cigarette and liquor store, and an electronics store that charges 3 euros for an hour to use the internet (much cheaper than Funabe's 1 Euro per ten minutes) as well as a few clothes and souvenir stores. Adjacent to that is another supermarket and slightly larger shopping centre, with a pizzeria and a couple of bars.

Around the corner from Funabe are the bus stops and taxi ranks, which makes for convenient transportation! Although the taxis on the meter are at least a euro or so more expensive, so just keep an eye out!
If you're planning a day trip by coach (to Loro or Siam Parque for example) then the Iberostar also across the street from Funabe is where everyone gathers to go - the travel agent will be able to explain more once you book!

Entertainment:
3/5
There really isn't much nightlife going on near Funabe though; certainly not for the young couples like us! But there was always a good musician on at night and a bar on the basement of Funabe, with foam parties and other events that were always changing (although it was extremely quiet and somewhat awkward!) If you're a young couple seeking a night out in Tenerife, I would actually go on over to Playa de Las Americas - we're not much for night clubs, but the busier streets were very pretty and well kept and certainly worth a trip for the scenery and something to do! Again though, for a slightly older generation, the hotel is most definitely very well suited!
The kids club always seemed to run and do different things, and there were always activities going on near the poolside for kids and adults, such as gymnastics, scuba-diving etc. and even a photographer who would take animals to the poolside (tortoises, parrots etc.) for some of the best photos!

Pools and Facilities:
4/5
There are three pools in Funabe - One on the ground floor and two on the rooftop - both of them on the rooftop are strictly for adults and are very peaceful, although bare in mind that one is specifically a nudist area. When we tried out the pools they were very cold! But good enough for a dip in the hot sun. The large pool on the ground floor was definitely our favourite! Although if you're fussy about your kids seeing topless women, perhaps this hotel isn't for you - there were many women who were happy to bathe half-nude on the ground floor swimming pool too, so just be mindful.
Events for all ages also took place there, including a fashion show and kids corner.
There is also a spa on site and you can book an appointment for a number of treatments, including cellulite-smoothing, ageing treatments, and a jacuzzi (8 euros for half an hour) - they had a lot to offer for pretty reasonable prices!

There were several bars, with the main one in the lounge always busy. With the cocktail menu that we glanced at, they were all free for the all-inclusive guests! Now that's a good bargain!

There are also a few gift shops on site as well as a travel agent who works 9am - 12pm. She was very helpful and showed us many of the places to see in Tenerife - our Loro Parque tickets were cheaper with her than they were with the other companies we looked at! (92 euros for two adults with a coach.)

Room:
3/5
The biggest let-down in the hotel for us were the rooms; they just didn't have that 'wow' and modern factor that the rest of the hotel had... as one lady put it who happened to move into a room close by 'I've seen better in a 3 star' and that's probably right. The room was adequate but very clean, with TV, safe, balcony, tables and chairs (inside and out), bedside tables and a large wardrobe, but the furniture seemed very worn and the lights and décor just weren't particularly pretty. We had a 'double' room, but the two singles pushed together kept wheeling themselves apart at night, which led to both of us sleeping on one single or on separate beds. As said, the room's maids are constantly cleaning and busy, and always did a good job at making the room up.
The road noise outside either wasn't exactly the best when the buses and motorbikes went past either, but the view was quite pretty and you could see mount Teide when there were no clouds around!

Hotel in general - our experiences:
4/5
The staff were pretty friendly, some certainly more than others. Those who were, were always extremely happy and enthusiastic to help. At the reception, they insisted they phoned a taxi for us although we didn't want to hassle them - the taxi turned up thirty seconds later.
We also had a bit of a cockroach problem... (but truth be told, it's a hot country known for lizards and cockroaches alike, I can assure you that the hotel was in no way dirty! It was likely our fault for leaving our balcony door open at night) we had one turn up in our suitcase the day before we left (ugh!) but upon telling reception, they helped spray and fumigate our suitcase. We found another in our room and upon alerting reception for a second time, they offered us another room for our last night there, sending their biggest apologies which was very appreciated!
We didn't get any swan or elephant towels as many other guests have received by looking at other reviews, which disappointed us slightly (the little things are always nice touches!) but when we moved into the other room we did finally get our little swan-stacked towels and even some sweeties too!

We always looked forward to meal times at Funabe! And the pool-times too! There is a strict no-reserve policy on the sunbeds, which was wonderful, because it meant there were always some available :)

Although the hotel boasted a free Wi-Fi service, we could not get ours to work for longer than five minutes on an extremely slow network... we did bring this to their attention, but it seemed like they were also unsure of the issue.

The staff were also very multi-lingual, and we heard many languages spoken by them that week. Their English was excellent and as said, staff were always happy to please and do their utmost for us.

We also spoke to two separate couples who used wheelchairs, who applauded the hotel for their eagerness to lend a hand - the layout of the hotel also apparently very accessible to those needing assistance.

If you'd like a little more luxury and a little more to do outside of the hotel, I would recommend going to Playa de Las Americas :) otherwise, from what we saw, this seemed like one of the nicest hotels in Costa Adeje!

Room Tip: Try and pay that little extra for a junior suite to get the better room quality if you can

Just back from 10 days at this hotel and i dont think i have 1 bad word to say. I went with my partner and as requested got given a room on the 4th floor with a pool view ( emailed a week before wth request) room was a good size and large bathroom. At first we thought the aircon was poor but it turned out to be better than most as it kept the room at a constantly comfortable temperature. We asked for 2 key cards on check in and left one in the room all the time so the aircon was always on. The choice of food at breakfast was great, something for everyone. The maids cleaned the rooms and changed the towels everyday, the rooms were always spotless. We never stayed in for the entertainement as we were not AI. Walk to the front was 5 minutes, we managed to find an alternative route back to avoid the big hill. Thanks for a great Holiday. Would definitely consider returning.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms were very quiet at night.

Just returned from 2wks A/I,fantastic hotel could not find any faults. The food was great with plenty of choice even for the fussiest eater,There is a rooftop area with plenty of large sunbeds and two dipping pools to cool off we always managed to get a bed there no matter what time we went up,it is adverticed for adults only but infact children under 14yrs are allowed with an adult it is very quiet and peaceful on the roof I would highly rec this, you can hire beach towels for 10 euros which is refunded when you leave and they can be changed as many times as you like,A/I drinks were very good it is eristof vodka which is a premium vodka, cocktails are included and much more,The rooms are large and very clean and the towels get changed every day,and the maids keep them very clean,There is a market in the carpark behind the hotel every Thurs/Sat,there is also a bus stop there which for 1-45 euro you can go to Las Americas/Los Christianos or you can walk along the prominade, there is a shopping centre across from hotel with a supermarket and a few shops ther is a lovely shop that sells beautiful bags/purses rings ect where i went a little mad buying lol,I would definetly go back to this hotel and I have reccomended to work mates infact one has now booked for a wk at end of Sept with his family, please do NOT listen to any bad reviews as this hotel was great,

Just got back from 2 weeks at the Fanabe Costa Sur, second time of staying in Costa Adeje and we just love the area, close to pretty much most amenities, beaches and much less hustle and bustle compared to the Americas. The Fanabe was a good 3 star hotel and the all-inclusive worked well. As with most all-inclusives the branded items were at additional charge so items like crisps, branded ice creams and branded alcoholic drinks - however you were given a discount on some of the branded spirits if you really wanted them. To be honest the local versions were perfectly fine and a good selection was included in the all-inclusive. The cleaning staff were brilliant and cleaned the room everyday - a credit to the hotel. The 9am opening of the pool and sunbeds was a much better system and ensured that whilst on holiday you could get up at reasonable time in the safe knowledge that not one sunbed was already reserved - more hotels should adopt this system it really works. As advertised any sunbeds reserved by towels were removed by security, quite refreshing to see a hotel stick to their own policies. The staff were very friendly and appreciated you trying to speak Spanish too (and why not we are in their country!), Mariya was excellent in the bars and always served us with a smile, she even recommended some excellent alternative drinks to try on the all-inclusive! The restaurant was buffet style and offered a good selection of meats, fish, vegetarian, salads, pastas, fruits and desserts everyday the weekly Canarian evenings were brilliant and the Paella was amazing- massive negative was the lack of air conditioning in the main restaurant which lead to guests wanting the tables outside which caused some minor delays at the busiest times. The room (228) was OK, decor was abit tired and view from the balcony was overlooking the neighbouring car park (and market twice a week) so privacy was limited, we did ask for a room change but this wasn't possible as the hotel was fully booked so we had to wait a week into our holiday, by that time we couldn't be bothered with packing everything up again so stayed where we were, the one good thing with being at the back of the hotel was the room was lovely and quiet! The animation team did there best with the very limited resources they had, certainly the water polo was extremely competitive and gave everyone in and around the pool a good laugh - they really should include this as part of the programme daily it was soo popular and made more sense that using the basketball court in the blazing heat! As already mentioned on here the nightclub is in need of updating and could be used so much more than it is, after the evening shows (Beatles & Motown tribute bands were great, should have done longer than 45 mins!) everyone left, one evening just us and one other family had the use of the whole club and bar! We had an evening flight home so asked to pay for the room for a late check out but again this was not possible as the hotel was fully booked, we had heard from otheres that the complimentary room wasn't adequate so thankfully friends let us use their room to freshen up before heading home. A few small changes to the hotel like: providing bottled water in the room fridge daily, improved air conditioning in the rooms and restaurant and a change machine in reception (kids needed 1 euro for the pool tables and games consoles and reception weren't keen on changing up the notes for them) would be useful enhancements.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are much quieter, although balcony view will be compromised.

just got back from this hotel we was on all inclusive board and payed about £2700 for 2adults and 2 children only to be told that you had to pay for crisp and slush and fries for snacks around the pool where as the sister hotel across the way these were all in.I cannot understand when these hotels are both 4star and owned by the same people this can happen. The food was very repetitive and had no taste and you had to run around like headless chickens to get your food. The staff were very nice and the maids a credit to you hotel. My only main concern is that all inclusive should mean all inclusive and in this case it was not
