“Efficent Staff and Good Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2011

We have been to the Bouganville Playa 4 times now. The reception staff don't seem as friendly as before. The staff in the restaurant area are very hard working and efficent but management seem to have removed the character of even the longer serving members. The hotel used to give returning customers a bottle of sparkling wine on their second night. They no longer do this. We managed to get a good bottle of Cava from the local supermarket for 1.69 euros so I thought this was a bit mean. Just something as simple as this made you feel valued. The room was kept nice and clean. The bed was comfortable. If you wanted an early night and are unfortunate enough to be sleeping on the Los Christianos side of the hotel, forget about getting to sleep before midnight due to the extremely loud music coming from the Wali Haii Cocktail Bar.
The food is generally very nice although meat especially at breakfast time is not so good quality.
The Gym has improved beyond recognition and now has many good excercise machines and is no longer in a dungy little room.
The no smoking ban allowed us to see our first shows at the hotel. Several were very good especially the Chinese acrobats and We Will Rock You.
As we had been to the hotel before it was a relaxing holiday but could have been much better.

Room Tip: Pick a high level room where noise from outside the hotel is reduced. Try and get a room facing the...

Having stayed at this so called (four star hotel) on various occasions in the past 15 years I can honestly say never again, was there in Dec 2010 and again in Aug 2011 the first to celebrate my 60 birthday total disaster would not pay the 500 Euros the reception staff were demanding for a room above level ten and was stuck in room 1 level 1 for my troubles and in Aug 2011 paid the equivalent of £200 for a side view on level five total rip of this seems to be the standard fleece as much as u can of the tourist as u can as soon as they arrive at the reception as for the rooms dated to say the least balcony doors that would not close we had ours repaired four times during our 14 day stay I save my final comments concerning the drunken eastern Europeans staggering about at all times of the day drinking no stop on there all inclusive deals on cheap alcohol from the poolside bar during the day to the up stair bar in the evening bar staff had there hands tied by the inadequate management it is no wonder the German tourist are abandoning this hotel in droves its time the Brits were doing the same teat it like the plague (Hotel Volcano here I come ) ….

Room Tip: Treat this Hotel like the plague

Not as bad as some people make out,I am a fussy eater ,and at no time did I ever struggle to eat in the Hotel.Yes the rooms are in need of a spruce up,but if you have been in some of the so called 4* hotels in Turkey, you will understand what I'm saying.

While we enjoyed our stay I would have to say this is not a 4 star hotel. Rooms very dated and drab. Bathroom pretty drab too and agree with a previous review that the shower pressure is poor. Staff all pleasant - especially Dominique in the restaurant. We always tried to have our breakfast and evening meal at his tables. Food very similar each night so got very bit boring. It was like the rush hour in London at times and I can't believe they don't have accidents. I agree that it is not easy to get a sun lounger after 9.00 am and I am afraid in our second week we became like everyone else and reserved the sun loungers early. It was either that or end up with nothing. Quite quiet the first week but became very full with UK half term. There was no chance of having a quiet swim in the pool once the teens and kiddies arrived to take over.

Me and my boyfriend went to the Bouganville in July 2011, we are both in our early twenties and wanted a nice relaxing holiday, but also with the option of going out for a drink on the town. I found the location of this hotel suited our purpose, far away enough from the lively strip that you are away from it all, but close enough to walk there if you wanted to. But location for me is about the only good thing I have to say about this hotel.
When we arrived (3am) the first thing we asked the man on reception was what time we had to leave our room on the last day (as we had another late night flight) he told us we could stay in the room as long as we wanted. It turned out we couldn't and that we had to be out by 12.
The food in my opinion was poor, very repetitive and limited choice, we found that the buffet was always packed and if you went to the grill to get something made fresh, you were waiting 10 mins before you actually got your turn. You can tell that the hotel is cooking for 500 people as the quality was poor!
The first impressions of the room were poor; there was a funny smell which persisted the whole of the holiday. The balcony was always infested with cockroaches! As well as awfully grubby flaky paint on the balcony walls. WARNING! DON'T GET LOCKED OUT ON THE BALCONY! The door locks when it is closed and luckily my boyfriend and I found this out before we had an awful experience of both of us being locked out! The bathrooms were very grubby, the shower consisted of mould and the power of the shower was awful, washing shampoo out of my hair took an age! The rooms were very dated, in a décor sense and also in an electrical sense, our bedside lamps had exposed wires which looked particularly dangerous, and our TV had to be replaced 3 times! But the worst thing about the room was the bed, it was on wheels and they would not keep still, putting your shoes on whilst sitting on the bed was impossible because it would just roll back (we did check the breaks on the wheels were on)
The pool area was nice but finding a sun bed was always a challenge, if you came out any later than 9am then you were not going to get a bed, which was a problem for 2 early 20 year olds who like a lie in.
The entertainment was appalling; we went to see a show on the second night and never bothered to go back, as it consisted of some woman in a thong shaking her bottom in a small child’s face! Luckily there were a lot of bars in the area which provided better entertainment then the hotel.
We went all inclusive but found this to be a waste, as the barmen, I think, on purpose put so much alcohol into 1 drink that you would only be able to have 3 or 4. It was hard to just enjoy a drink when all it tasted of was cheap rum. And we only had dinner in the hotel twice, eating out for the other 5 nights. We did have lunch in the hotel, but that was just because the food at lunch was bland and bearable.
Overall I found this to be a VERY disappointing holiday, the location was good, but hotel staff, food, rooms, pool area, were all very poor and this hotel is defiantly not a 4* hotel, 3* at a push.
Don't waste your money, go to the Jardin Tropical which is a stone throw away from the Bouganville, that’s what a real 4* hotel is like!

Dear Sophie,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Iberostar Bouganville Playa with us. We are sorry to hear that your stay with us did not meet your expectations.

With regards to your comment, please note that at Iberostar we pride ourselves in offering the best service. It has to be taken into account that the rooms are assigned to each client the day before their arrival depending on the type of the room (sea view, pool view, etc). Normally, the clients have the room when they arrive. Because of that, the clients can stay in the room until 12pm because the cleaning staff need more time to prepare the rooms for the new clients. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.

The whole team of “housekeeping” is making a great and honest effort to keep the hotel and all its areas as clean as possible. The team is organized under a very experienced housekeeping manager. Also, we employ experienced chambermaids and we provide the best possible tools for their work. If our efforts were not evident to you, we apologize profoundly and we assure you that it was not by a lack of effort.

Finnaly, regarding to your comment about the sunbeds, please note that at Iberostar do our best to limit the phenomenon of “sun bed reservation” and are always happy to assist any client in finding a sun bed who addresses us.

We have taken all appropriate measures to address the inconveniences you encountered.
Again, thank you for sharing your impressions; it gives us the opportunity to improve and offer better service on your next visit.

Yours sincerely,

Had a fortnight in the Bouganville Playa to celebrate our 50th anniversary and had a lovely holiday. We read the reviews prior to going and were not sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at 12.15am after a 2 hour delay at the airport. Although the bar was a few minutes off closing the staff kindly supplied us with tea and found some Rolls and fruit cake for us.
The rooms and public areas were spotless, yes the rooms have dated furniture but all very serviceable and good sized wardrobes. The bathroom was a fair size and towels changed as frequently as you requested also bed linen. Shower gel and soap and shower cap supplied also a sponge for shoe cleaning, don't
know how many people use these but we didn't.

A previous review had mentioned there was no teamaking facilities in the rooms so we went prepared and took our travel kettle, seldom used it as we found we were never that long in our room between meals and always came away from the dining room satisfied, and found the choice of food very good.

The lifts, as so many have mentioned, can be difficult to get at certain times, such as meal times. But we just said ah well; we are on holiday and in no rush so why worry.

During the course of our stay management surprised us with leaving a bottle of champagne and glasses in our room to celebrate our anniversary. We wish to thank them for this thoughtful touch.

We found although the hotel is quite big the atmosphere was very friendly and any staff we dealt with very courteous and friendly. All in all we enjoyed it so much we have booked to go back in May 2012.

Room Tip: we loved the view of sea and mountains from 408.

We stayed in October.. the rooms are ok very clean but need updated. The whole place is clean and the staff are very good. Food... I always got something I liked and it was tasty. Would stay again after the upgrade of the rooms. There is a bar at the back gate Ryans.. give it a try .. Ryan and John are two great lads and the food is excellent.. fish and chips are to die for... Ryan is a trained chef and all the food is well presented.....

Room Tip: Lower floors are good because of slow lifts
